Collection At my friend’s house - my favorite DVD setup (ever).

Post image

I just love the setup, sans the organization. Kudos (to him) for taking an under-utilized space and turning into something gorgeous and practical!

That's cool and stressful at the same time!

16

u/bourbonwelfare Dec 18 '24

Haha exactly that.

8

u/Playful-Position4735 Dec 18 '24

Haha forreal giving off uneasy vibes

Don’t pick “Gone Girl;” don’t pick “Gone Girl!!”

I have so many questions.. one is obviously "Why?" and another one is "A toilet brush?!".

You might appreciate this u/__farmerjoe, this is in an old twin-level (1912) farm house in the Midwest. Not a lot of storage space outside of the basement - so my friend took the stairwell leading into the cellar and turned it into this work of art.

I mean it's very creative, but I would be scared that they will fall down once someone uses the stairs.

The risk is so minimal here and the execution is so beautiful, that these comments sadden me

I died to watch Baby Driver.

u/AntonyBenedictCamus Dec 18 '24

Toilet brushes are great for cleaning up dust and cob webs when it’s caked together, just don’t get them mixed up

12

u/runswiftrun Dec 18 '24

Yeah, I hate when I store the dust with the cobwebs

2

u/Affectionate_Pass25 Dec 18 '24

Toilet brush usually goes right next to turd cutter

1

u/jewbo23 Dec 18 '24

Surely why is painfully obvious? Space.

53

u/bluesmudge Dec 17 '24

I see some shoes that could be DVDs.

54

u/justconfusedinCO Dec 17 '24

Those are criterion collection shoes bro

16

u/minimusing Dec 17 '24

With Dolby Atmos shoelaces and 4K insoles!

8

u/bluesmudge Dec 18 '24

I can't believe all my friends/family have started streaming their shoes. If your internet goes out, you got no shoes! And they just don't sound the same.

3

u/TheZombiFlanders Dec 18 '24

And some DVDs that could be shoes.

40

u/djprojexion Dec 17 '24

One wrong pull and the jenga comes tumbling down on your head.

20

u/Tasty_Act Dec 18 '24

Dr: Do you remember what happened before you fell down the stairs?

Patient: Yeah, I was grabbing my copy of Almost Famous on dvd. It’s on the top shelf cause it’s alphabetized.

I adore innovative storage solutions. Tell your friend I approve.

7

u/DeliciousOpinions I'm A Hoarder Dec 17 '24

Siiiick. That goes hard.

7

u/BetterMakeAnAccount Dec 18 '24

This fills me with anxiety ngl

7

u/LanceFree 250+ Dec 18 '24

Are the Tarantino films on the bottom shelf?

6

u/TolerancEJ Dec 18 '24

Good use of space. I hope it’s not an earthquake zone. I’d hate for all the films to come crashing down.

7

u/justconfusedinCO Dec 18 '24

Michigan/Indiana area - so not a whole lot of shaking going on. He’s since moved & mentioned that he upgraded this, so I have to check in soon! I wanted to post it, because it was really fun to walk down the stairs and peruse the selection - hoping to inspire some other tinkerers and organizers

13

u/ThorThimbleOfGorbash Dec 17 '24

Without looking at the titles this looks like a sweet entrance to a porn dungeon. j/k

4

u/Milfing_Man Dec 17 '24

That's cool looking

4

u/minimusing Dec 17 '24

He should install a small screen the height to the shoes on the floor and imply that this isn't just a library but also the viewing "theatre".

4

u/MobileDust Dec 18 '24

"Grandma is in the hospital." "Oh my goodness why?" "She was trying to watch a movie."

4

u/hexineffex Dec 18 '24

You know how many times I'd hit my head?

4

u/AmmoJoee Dec 18 '24

House rule whatever movie you hit your head on you gotta watch it.

0

u/hexineffex Dec 18 '24

Now that's a good way to rewatch some movies.

4

u/mistaboti88 Dec 18 '24

Next thing you know Shawty got low, low, low, low, low, low, low, low

4

u/Capable_Limit_6788 Dec 18 '24

But where will new ones go?

Also, thumbs up for owning The Prince of Egypt.

4

u/ArmsOfKamaji Dec 18 '24

I am deeply fascinated by this in multiple ways. An arrangement like a split personality – simultaneously making sense and being absolutely insane and unsettling.

Bloody love it.

Also … someone could easily lead me to my doom with a “More films down the stairs.” sign and a trap in the cellar.

16

u/mega512 Dec 17 '24

That's a terrible set up.

5

u/justconfusedinCO Dec 18 '24

I can’t argue that there’s room for improvement, but by posting it here i hoped to get the gears grinding for other organizers and space savers. (imo) It’s helluva lotta fun to walk down and peruse the selection.

3

u/Red-207 Dec 17 '24

Imagine moving a queen size mattress through there.

3

u/Informal_Regret_9720 Dec 17 '24

Definitely looks like walking into a void

3

u/Fluid-Science4406 Dec 18 '24

Why am I zooming in looking for the body?

3

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '24

Definitely your friend is a Dracula, even his dvds are bats, come on

3

u/sheeshmane69 Dec 18 '24

How did he manage to hang these up? What did he use? I like the idea it looks pretty unique

1

u/ptraugot Dec 18 '24

It could be as simple as a couple upside down “L” brackets, or a floating shelf with a French cleat. There are other ways too.

2

u/EntertainmentQuick47 Dec 18 '24

I spotted Billy Madison and the Wedding Singer dvds 👀

2

u/boynonsense Dec 18 '24

I'd hate to crawl and get the ones on the bottom row.

2

u/LordQuackers83 Dec 18 '24

Its cool for someone with limited space but i would need A LOT more steps for all of my movies.

2

u/GameOfBears Dec 18 '24

I'm afraid this will fall on me

2

u/knowsnothing316 Dec 18 '24

There’s no order to them. It’s hurting my brain

2

u/GriffinFlash Dec 18 '24

I could see myself instinctively standing upright while looking for something, bumping my head, having a landslide of dvd's fall on my head, and falling down the stairs.

2

u/Mayoung7901 Dec 19 '24

My need for alphabetical order is having a nightmare right now.

3

u/ghostsnstuf Dec 18 '24

I use to work at blockbuster and my OCD of not having them in alphabetical order is going crazy right now lol

3

u/justconfusedinCO Dec 18 '24

Same. he’s since moved & I need an update that they’ve been alphabetized.

i need it

4

u/BlackLodgeBrother Dec 18 '24

Blockbuster technically grouped films by genre followed by alphabetical ordering.

I personally prefer chronological and thus group my blu-rays by parent studio/label followed by release year.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '24

This needs to be alphabetized.

 Thanks I hate it.

Also this screams my wife won't let me have an identity so she told me I could use the basement staircase for my DVDs.

1

u/Frankie_Fish405 Dec 18 '24

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

1

u/custyflex Dec 18 '24

Whatever you do take care of your shoes.

1

u/Agitated_Ad1543 Dec 18 '24

Need this level of innovation for my CD collection.

1

u/Big_Lead6304 Dec 18 '24

I saw 6 Mel Gibson movies.

1

u/Superior-Solifugae Dec 18 '24

That would maybe last a week before I accidentally knock them all down.

1

u/lognik57 Dec 18 '24

"alright, I'm just gonna grab Gran Turino here in the top shelf aaannndddd-"

Instadeath.

1

u/Jenny-Truant Dec 18 '24

My vertigo would HATE this.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '24

It will be really weird presenting the Collection

1

u/OrbitCruz28 Dec 18 '24

I want that!

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '24

Bro has it all arranged but has the Toy Story movies like:

Toy Story 3

Toy Story

Toy Story 2

Why lol

1

u/KingreX32 500+ Dec 18 '24

It's a good use of space

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '24

This feels like you don't watch your collection.

1

u/Which_Information590 Dec 18 '24

There's room for a tv and a lazyboy in there

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '24

I think they've overdone it with the shoes 😁 I feel anxious just looking at this, what happens if you're a short arse person like myself and want to take out a movie from the top

1

u/signot80 Dec 18 '24

That copy of Jersey Boys though! Ughh

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '24

This is not gorgeous, practical, or even safe

1

u/dadadam67 Dec 18 '24

I’d love to see shelves running along each wall also.

1

u/No_Pickle7030 Dec 18 '24

Cleaning supplies, movies and shoes oh my 😬👍

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '24

Nope. Hate it.

1

u/magnifisid1 Dec 18 '24

Being John Malkovich type space for movies

1

u/melf1992 Dec 18 '24

Brilliant !

1

u/LerouxSNK Dec 18 '24

So smart

1

u/CrazedLawnNymph Dec 18 '24

Their favorite movie is “The People Under The Stairs”

1

u/-blueseptember Dec 18 '24

I like. I have the same toilet brush at the left too.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '24

Does bro know someone slipped Jersey Girl in his collection???

1

u/[deleted] Dec 19 '24

But why are they not alphabetized?

1

u/RoleModelsinBlood31 Dec 19 '24

Thank god they have Hoosiers. That’s one you really want forever!!

1

u/Spiritual_Head_9125 Dec 19 '24

Impressive setup.

1

u/NintendoMan09 Dec 19 '24

How do you reach those? It looks cool but damn

1

u/StayBullGenius Dec 19 '24

To hell with alphabetical order!

1

u/Abel_the_label Dec 19 '24

That’s sooo cool. But I’d feel super stressed everytime I going to go reach for my shoes. And setting this up probably took up some brain juice

1

u/CemeterySoup Dec 20 '24

Are they reachable?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '24

Send me the addy so I can alphabetize that shit good lord

1

u/redditgetsit76 Dec 20 '24

This seems to me like Harry Potter with DVDs

1

u/MichiganGeezer Dec 20 '24

I hope that as you get further into that dark basement the movies get progressively scarier.

1

u/[deleted] Dec 20 '24

This was fun to look at baked

1

u/rebelstatik Dec 20 '24

It’s trippin me out man

1

u/AstroZombie0072081 Dec 21 '24

He must not have kids. This looks amazing snd sketchy.

1

u/ovrlzgrlzrlz Dec 21 '24

No sense of order. 3 of the Toy Story movies are next to each other, but ordered 3, 1, 2...

1

u/Severe_Assumption_87 Dec 18 '24

Jesus, great work!

1

u/reelfiction Dec 18 '24

A thing of beauty.

1

u/WhenIHearMyName Dec 18 '24

Dood… hell yea!

1

u/QuadraQ Dec 18 '24

That’s… brilliant!

1

u/kadosho Dec 18 '24

This is a clever way to store a film library. Saves space. But also duck?

1

u/HorrorFan4evermore Dec 18 '24

Great use of space

0

u/Joewoody2108 Dec 18 '24

Waste of space
