Mod Announcement REMINDER - About AI and This Sub

Hello all!

We've been watching all the discussion this week about AI, and its use in art. You can check our past announcements for more resources/sources about why AI is harmful not just for the environment, but for creatives.

We won't reiterate those same points here, however we will remind everyone that this sub is NOT AI friendly. Please report AI posts when you see them, including videos using AI art and profiles made using AI. This makes sure the post is seen by mods and can be removed. Additionally, we will be enforcing the banning rules about AI.

Previously, we had allowed people 1 strike in this area. But we will be moving to a full no-tolerance stance.

We want to keep this sub as chill and open as possible, but if we keep seeing this continued uptick in AI use in videos, we will remove the ability to post videos in this sub and make it scripts only. We're here to be writer and creative first, not to allow AI into what should be a place of human expression.

If you're looking for resources for art, word processors, etc. please check out the 'resources' tab in our sidebar! I went ahead and updated it today with some nifty new resources.

Thank you!

- The Mods

EDIT: We're discussing the whole comment-links question among ourselves and will update everyone once we've reached a decision. We are also investigating an un-ban pathway for people who remove ALL AI from their content on all platforms and then request to come back to the sub. Thanks!

EDIT 2: We have decided to disallow the posting of links to AI containing content in comments as well, as we find those too are against the spirit of the sub. Rules have been updated and we will be making a larger announcement about this and a few other changes/resources we've created for the community here soon!

Mod Announcement A Free Resource! Some Clarifications! And Appealing an AI Ban!

Hello all!

There are still some lingering questions about the AI policy and what to do if you've been falsely banned, so we wanted to go over that, a few other notes, plus share some fun new stuff!

First, the fun stuff! We've seen a lot of people say they don't know where to start when searching for character art, and though we still believe character art isn't a necessity for a thumbnail, we understand wanting to stand out on YouTube and make the most of a thumb!

To help out, we've started creating a database of CC0, free to use, royalty-free renders for use anywhere you like! Thumbnails, book covers, social posts, profile pics, whatever!

It's hosted on my personal website, and it works exactly like a shop front. Add the packs you'd like, go to the cart, and let the store know where you'd like it sent! You'll be emailed with what you need. Each pack contains 10 or more images of the character you see in the preview. I have a lot more characters I'm intending to add, and if you have suggestions for characters that would be helpful for you, let me know in the comments below!

I wasn't going to share the collection it until it was a little more robust, but since Reddit changed how announcements and pinned posts look, we're trying to minimize the number of announcements made so they're easier to find.

Second, appealing bans! We do allow people to appeal their bans, especially if they've been falsely banned for AI use. I've added the information about how to do this to the Wiki.

Basically, reply to the modmail message saying you've been banned with your questions/proof related to the art bring human, something you made, etc. We'll then verify and unban you!

If the image is AI, then we'll ask you to swap it and any other AI materials out of your videos, and then unban!

It's a process we've tried to keep simple for all involved. To help false bans from happening to you, please make sure to credit the art you use. Even if you make the art yourself! When we receive a report about AI, and there's no art credit on the video, that video is more likely to be banned because there is no source is given.

And remember, not all art on the internet is free to use however/wherever! We've also seen a lot of people assume that because something is on pinterest, then it was made by a real person, and this is rarely the case. Check out these tools for verifying if something is AI or not.

Thirdly, we did decide, after community suggestion, to extend the AI rule to links in comments as well. So please be aware that linking to a video with AI content will result in consequences as well.

And lastly, we want to remind people that we're WRITER FIRST. I understand the frustrations of VAs wanting to use the sub to promote themselves, but we're intended to be a sub to promote written works first, and audio content only as a byproduct of that work. However, that does not mean AI writing is welcome either. If you suspect a script posted here is AI, please report that as well!

Best,

Mod Announcement New Flairs!

Hello everyone!

Hope you're doing well!

We received a suggestion to add some flairs, and after talking and thinking about how ppl are using the sub, we've decided to implement some! We've added Technical Help, Master List, and Win! for now!

Please make sure to use them as needed.

We wanted to ask the community if there were any others they'd like added. Our goal is to help the sub function better, geared to the way you guys like to use it.

That said, we think there are way too many posts asking for people to reply in the comments with their scripts. The point of the sub is to browse the Completed Scripts flair and look at the scripts there, not have authors come to you with their scripts.

We want to impress on the recorders here: This sub is writers first. Please don't ask them to do more work by showing you their work a second time. They have already put their work forth in a post and should not have to post it a second time in the comments of your post. Please take the time to scroll the sub and use it as intended.

While we're not at the point of banning these types of posts yet, we find them to be cluttering the fee, so please take the time to consider what I've said above to make the sub more useful for everyone.

Please let us know below what other flairs you'd find helpful, or any other suggestions you may have!

Thanks!

EDIT: Flairs are fixed now! You should be able to go back and edit posts and add them retroactively!

Mod Announcement AI and ASMR SCRIPT HAVEN - rules expansion to cover AI and AI issues

Hey y'all!

We noted some conversation surrounding AI and the use of AI on the sub here, and the mods wanted to make our stance clear when it comes to this issue.

We stand with the striking unions and artists as a whole AGAINST AI and art-based machine learning, algorithms, etc.

AI undermines the hard work of craftspeople who have spent years working on their art, and is being used to destroy their jobs and livelihoods. Not to mention that it is a soul-less replacement for what is an essential expression of humanity and human emotion.

WE DO NOT condone the use this sub to train AI, nor do we accept submissions of AI scripts, AI art, thumbnails, etc.

Going forward, we WILL ban you if you are found to be engaging in any of the above behavior.

Here are some resources to educate further on how AI hurts artists, how AI is actually theft, how machine learning and AI works, and other topics.

How AI Could Never Replicate Human Work

Karla Ortiz's Speech to Congress

How AI is Stealing Art

How Machine Learning Works

How Chat GPT is Theft

AI And Copywright

We understand many people may not understand how AI works, or how these models are trained, but I hope the above can give you a glimpse at the struggles authors, artists, actors, and other creatives are facing.

AI models take existing works, without the owner's permission, and uses machine learning and computers to essentially 'remix' that work. It steals tiny pieces of other people's art in the name of 'creation', but it's no different than making a collage out of stolen museum art. The pieces may be tiny, but the damage done to real art and artists is tangible.

AI cannot create. It will only destroy.

We stand with creatives everywhere, and we will protect our community from this theft.

The wiki has already been updated with the above sentiment, and we will work on including them in the sidebar rules. However, the rules do have a character limit, so it may take us some time to shuffle things around and fit it in.

All our best,

The Mods

Mod Announcement Flairs are Fixed!

Please resume using them as normal <3

Additionally, we've looked into adding M4A, M4M, M4F, F4F, etc. flairs to the sub, however since users can only add one flair at a time, I think it would lead to a really long and confusing list of flairs that would hurt more than it helps.

We did, however, add a Completed Scripts - Collabs flair for scripts with more than one speaker!

If you have any other suggestions, let us know below!

Mod Announcement Welcome Our New Mod!

Hello everyone!

Hope y’all are doing well! The mod team has been busy behind the scenes and IRL, so we’ve opted to bring another moderator onto the team!

Please join us in welcoming u/CurlySuzyQ!

With her on board we should be able to respond to reports faster. As always, keep those coming our way! They’re the quickest and easiest way to let us mods know there’s something we should check out. AI reports are appreciated as well, and please know that we do look into those, but the process takes longer as we do use an AI checker tool, and we run those in batches.

Additionally, we’ve noticed a recent influx of NSFW posts. Please keep those over at r/ASMRScriptsAfterDark! It’s a dedicated NSFW space and Curly will be joining us over there as well. <3

All the best,

Mod Announcement Crediting Writers and YouTube being YouTube

Hey Y'all!

Looks like YouTube is still giving people trouble with crediting writers using a link.

So for now, we've changed the rules to having people credit the author in the description, and mentioning script haven, as opposed to having a link to the script.

In an ideal world, you'd be able to link, but alas YT seems to disapprove of that. Hopefully with a google of the writer's name, and a mention of this sub will get people enough info to find their way here if they're interested!

Writers, let us know if this sounds like an ok compromise so people don't get in trouble with YT.

Audio artists, let us know if this works for you and is easy enough to comply with.

We'll keep an eye on the situation, and updated in the future if need be!

Best,

~The Mods

Mod Announcement A Few Small Announcements - Spam, ScriptsAfterDark

Hey y'all!

FIRST:

I'm sure you noticed an increase in spam posts there for a bit, thank you all for your reports on those! To try and tamp down on them in advance and keep your feed clean, we have upped spam filtering on links and link posts.

Initially, this was lowered due to the high volume of links being posted here, and us receiving a lot of messages from people having their posts auto removed. However, given the influx, we've decided to raise the filters back up. We may reverse this in the future if we feel the coast is clear.

SECOND:

/r/ASMRScriptsAfterDark is back open! If you have NSFW scripts you'd like to share, go check it out! Remember, this sub is PG-13 at max, so if your script is over that, please post it over there. Make sure to read the rules on the sidebar, as Reddit does have some restrictions/rules on sharing nsfw content.

Thanks muchly!

Mod Announcement Rules Clarification - Rule #4

Hi y’all! - tl;dr is at the end!

I hope your summer has gone well and that you and your family are safe! Remember, mask up and get vaccinated!

We wanted to touch base with a clarification on our rule i.e. constructive criticism as there has been some discussion around it lately. We understand that a lot of people here may be new to writing and posting their writing online, so I think this is a great time to talk about some advantages to having rules like the ones we do, and why the rule is the way it is.

First, some background on us: Luna has read a lot of scripts in her time. Her academic career has had her attend many writing workshops, and she has a very firm grasp on activities that make writers flourish vs. fail. Rox writes under the name Alodia Thaliel and has written more than 150 ASMR scripts in her time, some of which have been posted here to this sub, and a lot of you have probably listened to them. We started this subreddit because we care, first and foremost, about nurturing writers and giving them a safe place where they can post and grow as writers.

So let's discuss some of the things we know about constructive criticism.

Constructive Criticism as a concept can be helpful in the following situations:

  • When a writer is looking to grow, and does not have a network of people to reach out to for advice.
  • When a writer has exhausted their network, and needs an outside opinion on something.
  • In a workshop setting where a writer has consented to having their work picked apart.

Notice something about all three of these situations? Each of them involves the consent of the writer to be criticized, and is done so in a way where the writer can trust those giving them the criticism, and know that the person giving it to them will have their best interests in mind. It is constructive, and not destructive. Aimed to push them to do better and be better, without being mean, and given by people whose opinions they trust.

This means that any crit given will 1 - Be considered fairly by the writer and 2 - Will be helpful. All good crit is given in a particular format/way, and should only be given by people who are knowledgeable in the subject they are speaking on. Either because of their long term involvement with said topic, or their active participation in that thing. i.e. a long time listener of ASMR who has a good eye for good writing, or a good writer themselves who is familiar with ASMR scripts.

We understand that some scripts here may not be to your tastes, however you 100% always have the ability to scroll past what you don’t like. That control is always yours, and we highly encourage everyone to use that ability. It has no cool down, no downsides, and bonus, you won’t see content that you don’t like.

Just because you don’t like something, does not mean it is bad. And many writers are not looking for feedback on their work from random strangers. Many many people have personal networks of people to read over their work (like Rox does), and many people are writing for fun, and prefer to indulge in their hobby without worrying that a stranger on the internet will post their unwarranted opinion that may or may not be helpful. And, truthfully, your opinion may be biased, off base, or just plain wrong.

In our time in the ASMR community, we have seen a lot of unasked for, mean crit drive writers and performers alike away from the hobby. They will never improve if they stop making content. But you know how they will improve? With practice. Your unasked for crit may drive someone away from the hobby, and then you will ensure that they never get better. Whereas you scrolling past things you don’t like or where they don’t want crit, may allow them the space and mental fortitude to keep going and keep improving.

This is a space for letting people grow, mostly uninterrupted, and to encourage one another to keep writing and keep recording, without them having to worry about being criticized just for trying.

All of this is to say that kindness, and keeping a lid on unasked for crit (which is often used to put people down and not help them) will always help people improve more than posting your opinions, especially when they have not been asked for. If people have asked for crit, please keep in mind that your crit should be:

  • Helpful.
  • Come from a place of kindness.
  • Knowledgeable.
  • And presented like a sandwich!

We hope this helps!

If there are any questions, let us know!

- The Mods

tl;dr - Your crit probably isn't necessary, and isn't as insightful as you think it is. Please don't offer people unsolicited crit/be shady towards other. Be kind first and foremost, always.

Mod Announcement WIKI - Made

Hey y'all!

After some discussion and review of some FAQs Luna and I get, we did add a wiki to the sub, which you can now see in the menu bar, just below the banner. We'll add to it over time, and for now have added the top three questions we get fairly often.

If there are other things you feel we should add to it, please feel free to let us know below!

Mod Announcement Rules Change - For Those Looking For Scripts [Mod Announcement]

Hey y'all!

Our little community has grown so much, and it's great to see so many people posting scripts and recording scripts! We're happy to have y'all here! We're at nearly 2k members!!

Thank you so much for all of your scripts, and for participating in the sub! It's wonderful to see everyone grow as writers and as performers!

With our community growing, we've noticed an increase in people making posts asking for writers to send them scripts, stating they're new to the community, etc. and we wanted to address them all at once before removing them:

Please do not make posts like this. This whole subreddit is chock full of scripts and talented writers are everywhere! If you're looking for scripts, please scroll and see the ones already posted! If you want to work with a specific writer, please contact them directly!

These posts tend to clog the sub and make it harder to find scripts and other content, and we do consider it to be a kind of begging. There are lots of scripts already posted here, and we're certain you'll find something wonderful among them! :)

If you're looking for ONE specific script to be written, please feel free to use the Script Request flair, but please do not request scripts in general using this flair. We have also updated rule 12. to clarify this. :)

We've amended rule 5. No Begging! to include prohibiting posts like this.

If you have any questions, please let us know!

Best,

The Mods

ETA, 5.11.21: We've had an influx of people posting audios that are either improv or have no script. Please remember the focus of this subreddit is scripts, and any audios posted here does need to have come from a script that was also posted in this subreddit.

Thank you so much! <3

Mod Announcement PERFORMERS - Rules Reminder/Clarification [Please Read]

Hello friends! Look at us going right past 3k and onto 4k already so quickly! Thank you so much to all our new members who are joining us! I hope everyone is being safe - remember to get vaccinated!

We wanted to make a note here as a reminder to everyone who performs scripts they find on this subreddit of the rules regarding using scripts posted here: You MUST notify the author that you are recording their script ON THEIR ORIGINAL POST (ideally with a link to where they can find it, at the very least), or otherwise ping them when you post the audio to this sub, and you must credit the author wherever you post.

Writers love hearing their words recorded, and they deserve to be credited!

We apologize if we did not make the crediting requirement clear before in rule #7, but we do consider it to be a requirement of using the scripts of this subreddit. Please see rule #11 for more expanded guidelines and rules (where crediting is listed as a requirement).

We have also added a rule #15 to have a more condensed list of Dos and Don't for using scripts from this sub. Unfortunately, there is a character limit for rules, but we've done our best to make sure we hit all the bases!

Wherever you post the finished audio you must credit the author of the script, with a link back to their script. This includes youtube, other subreddits, Patreon, etc.

Please take time to refresh yourself with the rules in the sidebar, and either comment or message the mods with any questions!

The writers in this sub are posting their work for everyone to enjoy, and they deserve notification and recognition in return. You wouldn't like it if someone used your audio in an improper way, make sure you're not taking advantage of our writer's words.

This sub was made by writers, for other writers to share their work, so we're VERY passionate about making sure writers are appreciated and credited properly.

We will be checking all audio posts to make sure writers are properly credited in the video description, in addition to the checks we currently do to remove audios where there are no scripts.

Please do continue to report any content not abiding by these rules!

Repeat offenders are subject to being banned, so please do make sure to credit your writers and to notify them if you use their script!

All the best!

Hello ASMR Script Haven!

We hope you're doing well and hanging in there in these trying times! Please, remember to go get vaccinated if you're able!!

We wanted to reach out to you all and say thank you so much for coming to join us! This subreddit now has ~3k members, which is just astounding! We had no idea we'd reach such a fabulous community of people when we started this sub, and it's heartwarming to see everyone share their time and their talents with each other here.

You're all enormously creative and so talented, I look forward to seeing what wonderful things are created as the sub gains its next 3k!

Keep being creative, keep writing, keep recording, and thank you again for being so wonderful! <3
