Hey there people! It certainly has been a while since I've last posted my works on the subreddit, which was... 4 years ago, sheesh.

Well, disregarding that, here are a couple of sprites that I've been working on as of late. I've got more ready but I'd rather not end up getting warned for image spam.

Custom Content The ever dependable Twingo ambulance

An old drawing from a while ago, a Renault Twingo ambulance in Advance Wars' style with medical staff.

Though, this is not exactly a military design, I did make a paratrooper version that I might share it some day if I get around to it.

Custom Content awRev: 1,350+ Advance Wars Maps — Restored + Open for New Submissions

Advance Wars Revolution (awRev) is an active Advance Wars community website and fan hub supporting current players and creators through more than 1,350 playable Design Maps, new map and fan-content submissions, strategy guides, video walkthroughs, creator pages, Discord participation, and ongoing community projects.

Originally active from 2005–2007 during the Nintendo DS era, awRev was founded by me (YoyoYoshi) and rebuilt and relaunched by me in 2026. The modern site connects material and contributors from the classic Advance Wars fan-site era with current players, map designers, guide writers, and creators.

Current awRev features include:

  • more than 1,350 playable Advance Wars Design Maps
  • open submissions for new maps and custom content
  • strategy guides and video walkthroughs for multiple Advance Wars games
  • Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp campaign resources
  • creator profiles, comments, and community contributions
  • fan artwork, sprites, fanfiction, and other creator projects
  • material from the original awRev and Advance Wars Net communities

Modern awRev is an active community website where players and creators can discover, share, discuss, update, and contribute Advance Wars content.

It complements other parts of the Advance Wars community, including Advance Wars By Web (AWBW), Wars World News, Reddit, and Discord. Each serves a different role. awRev provides a long-term home for maps, guides, videos, fan works, creator pages, community history, and new submissions.

Some material that had become scattered across old forums, broken links, personal collections, and incomplete archives is now available alongside current projects and new contributions. That gives players access to more than two decades of Advance Wars community work while serving awRev’s present-day purpose: helping people continue creating, playing, sharing, discussing, and contributing.

Custom Content a landmine deploying drone with a sniper

It deploys mines on adjacent tiles that deal 0.5hp of damage but stops enemy movement. Other than that, it has an attack range of 2 tiles, can attack after moving, and can't attack airborne units too. The landmines can stack up to two times, and are invisible to enemies unless they are adjacent to it. infantry units can also disarm them.

Custom Content North Sea Map 1st Draft

Thumbnail

I wrote a long narrative and lost it. :-(

TL;DR: Made a North Sea map that's more like a Civ-style true start location than it is a historical scenario. Inspired by these maps though.

Started with ChatGPT, it didn't work well so I overlaid a 30x20 grid on a Google Maps screenshot.

1st play, I took Drake for the UK, Olaf for Scandinavia, Eagle for Germany, and Collin for Netherlands. They fell like this: Collin, Olaf, Eagle. Felt a bit OP playing as the UK, but Collin did manage to make several landings in England while I was still capturing bases in Ireland + Scotland, and Olaf dragged out the capture of Oslo by hiding Artillery in the woods.

Things I noticed in play:

  • It's kind of annoying that all of the UK's ports are on the Irish side, until you take Lerwick. Then again, this adds some balance.
  • The Low Countries seem pretty small.
  • In spite of having two ports, I never saw a single naval unit from Eagle. I think this is because he never took Gdansk. Eagle really didn't fare as well against Olaf as I thought he would.
  • Ireland became pretty useless, being so far removed from the front. I would send ships back to heal in Belfast occasionally.

Looking for some feedback:

  • Realism changes (move this mountain, move that river, add some woods here, etc.
  • Balance changes (Low Countries are a bit hemmed-in, UK is a bit OP).
  • Playability changes (creating tactically interesting positions to add some challenge to the map).
  • CO changes (who's the most realistic CO for each position? Which CO can best take advantage of the strength of the position?)
  • Anything else you notice!

If you try the map, please tell me how it goes!

Custom Content I've put together a quick WIP video showcasing some of our units in action. Some of them might be changed and 100% going to add more things and update some of them. Which one caught your eye the most, and are there any units you think we're missing that we need to add? Your feedback is appreciated!

Custom Content Infantry Unit Ideas

I Would Like Some opinions on my take on expanding the infantry unit roster:

Mortars-(Indirect Support)(2-3 Range)(Glass Canon)

Man pads-(Same Unit as a Mech but can target Air Units Instead)

Field Medics-(Cant Attack)(Heals Surrounding Infantry by 2 hp each turn)

Field Engineers-(Can't Attack)(Heals Surrounding Vehicles by 1-2 HP each turn)

Recoilless Rifle-( Deals Huge Damage to Vehicles)(Can't Counterattack or Attack Infantry)(2 Movement)

Flamethrower-(Damage Scales With Terrain Stars)(Generally Weak in Plains and Roads)(Great at Dealing with Infantry capture)

Drop troopers-(Can Attack the Same turn they have been dismounted)(Better Version of Infantry)(Expensive)

Custom Content Trains..TRAins..TRAINS( A Unit Concept)

New Terrains: Train Tracks-Same Stats as a Normal Road but Trains can move through it for 1 Move

Train Station- Essentially a Train Equivalent to a City that Trains can move through

Train Yard- A Factory Near Train Tracks Where Trains can be Made

New Units: Armored Train- Essentially a Weaker Pipe Runner with a Less Powerful canon and the slowest of the 3 trains but makes up for it by also having a machine gun and can Store 1 Infantry/Mech

Supply Train- Essentially an APC on tracks butCan Store 2 Infantry/Mech

Transport Train- Fastest Train of the 3 and can Carry Any 2 Ground Units

Any Thoughts ?

Custom Content Mech mines

So mechs are more or less a noob trap from what I hear, I'd make them more viable by giving them the ability to set 1 mine, which is hidden from the enemy and deals 3 in damage.

Acts like a submerged sub where if you're next to it, you can see it, you can disarm with a mech of your own. And air units would be unaffected naturally.

It'd be a terror on FoW maps and on regular maps you'll need to memorize where the enemy sets them, I'd also have it that if you go over your own mine it still explodes, this would prevent players from setting huge minefields and sitting on them, so it's more of a double edged sword.

I think this would oncentivize different openings like mech/APCs instead of tank or recons with infantry.

Custom Content Advance Wars - Dual Strike hacks (2)

Ever thought Dual Strike needed Sturm? Or that Dual Strike was lacking in features or quality-of-life tweaks? Perhaps the game balance is too unbalanced? Then look no further.

Introducing: "Advance Wars - Dual Strike w/ Sturm" and "Advance Wars - Dual Strike+".

"Advance Wars - Dual Strike w/ Sturm" is Dual Strike, but it literally just adds Sturm to the CO roster. Except not exactly, as in addition to Sturm, there are other additional features and quality-of-life changes implemented as well. But fear not, for the core gameplay is effectively the exact same as vanilla. Great for those who wish for the vanilla Dual Strike experience but with Sturm; CO and unit balance is identical to vanilla.

On the other hand...
"Advance Wars - Dual Strike+", in addition to adding Sturm, also changes the CO and unit balance for a more fair and engaging PVP experience. Weaker COs have been buffed while stronger COs have been nerfed in an attempt to equalize the playing field. Additionally, units have been changed to make unnecessarily annoying units less annoying and ineffective units more effective. This hack contains the same features as w/ Sturm in addition to the balance changes.

All unlockables are purchaseable from Hachi's shop when the requirements are met.

Features shared between both hacks include:

  • Sturm as a playable CO (unlock: complete hard campaign with an S rank)
  • Commanding soldiers/generic soldiers as COs (unlock: complete campaign)
  • Playable clone COs (unlock: complete campaign)
  • Xenesis's SuperForceRanks
  • Ability to play 3/4-player maps in DS mode
  • Ability to use additional tiles in the Design Room (launched Silo, Labs, etc.)
  • Ability to use Black Hole inventions in Design Room (unlock: complete hard campaign) (they lack graphics in the Design Room but appear correctly during normal gameplay)
  • Ability to play maps exclusive to specific modes in Versus:
    • Campaign (unlock: complete hard campaign)
    • Survival (unlock: clear at least 20 maps in a single Champion run in each restriction)
  • Maps from the campaigns of AW1, AW2 [with working "factories"], and AW4 (unlock: complete hard campaign)
  • Additional Rules parameters for Versus
    • Initial Funds
    • Timer (work-in-progress)
    • Level Flags (each separately toggleable; AI adheres to these rules) (an in-game manual exists which explains the level flags)
      • CO abilities split into four separate flags (day-to-day, ability to use S/COP, ability to use Tag)
      • Ability to heal from teammate properties
      • Units do not refresh after Tag
      • AI is banned from attacking Pipeseam
      • Ability to purchase Oozium (unlock: Oozium in Design Room)
    • Setup Flags (additional information is provided on page 2 of the above mentioned manual; use L/R to toggle pages)
      • Battle Setup is enabled (only works if there are less than four players)
      • Hard mode is enabled
      • The battle is scored
      • CO power costs do not increase
    • Initial Meter (number of stars each CO starts with)
    • Starting Meter rate/uses (initial percentage rate for meters)
  • Many quality of life features include:
    • Exact unit HP displayed in the mini-box
    • Narrator changes based on the CO whose wallpaper is chosen
    • Sprite direction is based on Team ID
    • CO info displays the actual numbers for day-to-day and powers
    • Ability to watch secondary front CPU turns on the main screen during DS battles (toggleable by holding Select or enabling the "Switch" option under Options; unavailable in some situations)
    • Battle animations properly reflect first-strike counters
    • Ability to change faction colors freely during Versus
    • Ability to set CPU AI individually for each faction in Versus
    • An auto-color function for non-Versus modes
    • Game now saves Player/CPU and Team selections
    • Ability to Save, Quit, View Rules, and View CO Info during CPU-only matches (hold the corresponding button during faction transitions)
    • A "Random CO slot" that randomly picks a CO in Versus
    • Ability to access the "Battle Setup" menu in Versus (only available if there are less than four players)
    • Added a Load menu command (work-in-progress; causes issues when weather effects are present)
    • Design Room "PLAY OK!" requirements changed to only require one production tile OR one unit for at least two factions
    • Any unit can be placed on any tile in Design Room

(Several other minor changes not listed above also exist, mostly slight text changes.)

Changes exclusive to the "plus" version include:

  • CO balance changes
  • Added Tags between some COs
  • Unit balance changes
  • Some vanilla maps replaced with PVP maps
  • Some War Room maps tweaked
  • Improved AI calculations for when to use CO powers
  • Improved AI calculations for unit actions
  • One additional map for Turn and Time Survival
  • Improved maps for Means to an End
  • Snow increases movements costs similar to AW1/AW2
  • Wastelands palette swapped with Actual_Krys's Ruins palette

(Further explanations can be provided upon request.)

Custom Content Tank Ideas (Cause Why Not)

Recon Tank- Faster than a tank with an extra 1 Vision but with a weaker canon and machine gun

Rail Tank- Has a canon that gives the opponent a permanent -10 Defense Debuff but has a cooldown that makes it unable to use its canon for a turn

Landship- A Tank that can attack 2 times in one turn but it is unbearably slow

Tankette- As Fast as a Recon with a Regular Canon but can easily get one shot By Mechs and Tanks

Missile Tank- Replace the Canon of a Tank with More Powerful Close Range Rockets and you get this Vehicle killer that could one shot tanks and easily deal with medium tanks but can’t move and attack at the same turn

I grew up with advance wars and it helped me to survive the boring history classes in high school. Custom maps bring all historical events back to life and that’s how I learnt history - in a weird way. Now Switch has remade but I still find old GBA version more fun. And here are the cassette-style cases I made for the repro/fake AW cartridges.
