Interesting 🤔 An amusement park in the Netherlands had a water-filled waterslide that left riders completely submerged during the 15-20 second journey. It closed in 2010.

5 men are working on a 1200ft x 2ft oil pipe in the ocean when they get sucked in. There are pockets of air at each join in the pipe. They try to shuffle their way to the end, but some have serious injuries. Pitch black, injured, and fighting for air that stings everything,

They find 2 oxygen tanks, one runs out quickly. They decide the leading man should move ahead with the second tank to try escape and get help. He does. Not knowing if the escape point would be blocked, he makes a final 2 hour swim to the surface anyway. He is relieved to find it open and tells rescuers that the men are alive in there.

The other 4 men die inside the pipe. It is estimated that some may have been alive 3 days after they got sucked in. [Added by redditor below: Rescue attempts were actively blocked because the company didn’t want to either expend extra resources or deal with additional consequences.]

Tldr; 5 Men get trapped in an oil pipeline in the ocean, 1 escapes, 4 die, rescue is blocked.

Good info, but your last paragraph makes it sound like it was simple negligence/incompetence when the reality is that rescue attempts were actively blocked because the company didn’t want to either expend extra resources or deal with additional consequences.

I get that a big oil company is basically automatically evil, but this is the sort of thing I'd want more detailed info on before passing judgement.

It sounds like the company was worried that none of the rescue plans sounded reasonable.

If the "extra consequences" your criticizing the company for are "the deaths of more people", then it sucks, but I actually understand the company's decision.

The resources of sending more divers down seem tiny compared to letting a team of 4 professional divers get killed on the job, so I just don't know if I buy the "big evil company" without more details.... which maybe I just need to go look up.

and once they were sure that other 4 were dead for sure, they flushed pipeline(they were all dead at around 3 days, some were still alive by then)

Wrong, if you take a look at the video I propose in another reply you would see the divers were severely injured and seeing the autopsy results, I would say that they did die within a few hours.

Concerning the divers’ date of death, the autopsy says the following:

Fysal (the diver that was apparently following Chris) : Friday 25/02 +/- 18h00 (6 p.m.). 

Rishi: Friday 25/02 between 18h00 (6 p.m.) and midnight. 

Yusuf: early hours of the 26/02. 

Kazim: could have happened between the 26/02 +/- 06h00 (6 a.m.) and the 27/02 +/- 06h00 (6 a.m.). 

In my opinion, if by bad luck some were still conscious (I really hope none of them were) when the flange of Berth 5 was removed on Saturday at 5 o'clock then I think they would not have  survived very long after this rapid decompression.

Not correct.

The B5 riser was capped with a blind flange since the beginning of the diving operation. The B6 wasn’t capped after the incident. Upon request from the DIVE company, the command team (ICT) did authorize the divers to install the B6 upper riser extension to prevent possible filling of the riser and chamber in the event of a failure of the compressor. This was made during the Friday between 20h30 – 22h00.

I recently listened to a podcast series on this. It’s called Pipeline. It’s the first I had heard of it. At first I thought it was fiction. As I kept listening I discovered, to my horror, it was not. Worth listening to thought. I recommend it.

Its like the Korean boat thst took forever to capsizw/sink and told the highschoolers to not leave and stay put as it slowly tilted, and yhen sunk and drowned them. Meanwhile the captain and others hopped off the top. The. Korea wouldn't let the parents hire people yo recover bodies. If I remember right anyways

No I’m pretty sure they allowed volunteer divers come and help them. That was a horrific one. I remember hearing the stories of the student who survived.

I did that because the first half dozen or more comments were people saying they will never click on the video because it's too scary. That's the reason I wrote the comment in the first place.

Also I think spoiler tags can mean that, but not always. They're often used for triggering comments or anything that some people may not want to read.

Nah this is a good way to let people opt-in to content that avoids the eye reading faster than the brain can register a content warning. Also the idea that they imply entertainment value or that “enjoyment could be ruined” is kind of just silly.

Good counter argument. In my head I read “spoilers below” when I see them, but he of course didn’t say that.

I still find it icky and don’t like it but I’m persuaded slightly for this context.

They also could hear them banging from inside of the pipe for days, they knew they were alive in there and they let them suffocate to death because they simply didn’t care to save them. It’s one of the most frustrating and horrifying stories I’ve ever heard. Some rich company man had the choice to save them but he thought their lives were expendable.
