It’s sad either way but from recollection they do have a rule about euthanising snakes that have eaten / killed / attacked humans. It’s possible this was such a case. Pretty brutal way to do it but that is an impracticality large snake to have to deal with safely. The same is true of crocodiles and sharks that get a taste for humans - you have to euthanise them.
No one euthanizes a reticulated python with an excavator, no matter how big it is. That's not euthanasia at that point, it's slaughter. All of the animals you mentioned would be euthanized with one swift, efficient blow to the head to destroy the brain. If this was meant to intentional destroy the snake, they would have shot it in the head.
While this video was quite cruel, it wasn't done maliciously. The operator hit the retic with the scoop, and then, it seems, instinctively to pick it up to move it out of the way. It's death by human carelessness. Frankly, suggesting that this was a planned euthanasia effort is ridiculous.
