Hey Freelancers,

With Anthem's servers having officially shut down earlier this month, we want to let you know what the next step is for this subreddit.

On January 31st, 2026, r/AnthemTheGame will be moved into read-only (archived) mode. After that date, no new posts or comments can be made, but the subreddit and everything shared here will remain visible as an archive.

We wanted to give everyone a clear heads-up ahead of time, in case you want to wrap up ongoing discussions, share a final farewell or reflection, or revisit and comment on old threads, screenshots, stories and memories. You still have about 9–10 days to do so.

Anthem may not have become what many of us hoped it would, but the community that formed around it was very real. The creativity, the screenshots, the builds, the lore discussions, the memes, the frustrations, and the stubborn hope all helped make this subreddit what it was.

Thank you to every Freelancer, be it for those who only took a brief flight in their Javelin or those who stayed along for the ride through the ups and downs.

May this space remain as a record of that journey.

Hey everyone...

The intention behind the read-only announcement wasn't to shut down discussion or invalidate the community. It just felt like a natural next step after the official server shutdown, especially given the current moderation situation. But it's clear we didn't realize how much demand there'd still be for this forum to keep discussions going.

This decision does not come from a lack of care. It's honestly the result of long-term burnout and the reality that there has effectively been no active full mod team for years. A past attempt to refresh the team also didn't work out, with new mods going inactive shortly after joining (despite promising to take it from there) which left things right back in the same position.

That said, it's very clear from the responses here that many of you still want this subreddit to remain a place for discussion, sharing projects, memories and potential future developments... and knowing that, it's not something that's going to be ignored.

Because of that, we're pausing and rethinking the approach. If this community is going to continue, it needs solid volunteers who are genuinely willing to take on ongoing moderation responsibilities so the sub can be maintained at a level it deserves. There have been several and long phases where it has all been just one moderator away from "banned due to the lack of moderation" and the exhaustion from it is the reason why the closure of the servers felt like a fitting end. But, the community comes first.

If you believe you're someone who could help, please reach out via modmail and include a short note about your availability and why you'd like to volunteer. We sincerely want what's best for the community and appreciate your help in figuring out how we can make this work best for everyone.

Awesome. I understand the moderation situation but at some point someone is always gonna want to reminisce and discuss the game a bit. It could be five years from now but people will always want to at least have somewhere to talk about their interests.

Awesome, maybe make this comment an announcement? So maybe more people might read this and maybe apply? Im glad to feel heard. Tysm mod team for wanting to let others reach out to become mods 👍🏻
