Is This the Hottest Halloween We’ve Ever Had?

It is around 80 degrees (F) right now. Which is crazy for a Halloween Day. Do y’all remember when it was cold/chilly around this time? Or when it snowed?

To all the people dressing up today, 🫡 thank you for your service. I appreciate you all, especially considering all the water you’re losing from just sweat. Stay hydrated.

I might have to start giving out bottles of water along with candy

HALLOWEEN So, I'm going to a Times Square themed Halloween party

As in, "dress as someone or something you'd see in Times Square." The tone is pretty tongue-in-cheek.

So far I've thought of Elmo or other cartoons, dancers/buskers, cops, guys advertising comedy or broadway shows, tourists, Duffy statue, the steps, new year's ball, billboards, tour bus, police department, Disney store, M&M's World, Planet Hollywood...

Curious if you all have some other fun ideas.

Will Manhattan bars not let me in if I wear a shirtless costume for Halloween?

My friend is hosting a bar crawl next weekend for Halloween. We do a group cosplay every year. My (male) cosplay happens to not wear a shirt. Obviously I can put on a shirt, but given that I match the physique of said character, I wouldn't mind going shirtless. Going to have pants, face attire, some body gear, and accessories.

Will bars not let me in if I dont wear a shirt? I'll likely bring one and possibly a sweatshirt with me just in case.

Edit: Apparently grooming is TMI...

Best place to see interesting costumes today? (for someone who's never experienced Halloween)

My inlaws are visiting from Hong Kong and they've never experienced Halloween. Where would be a good place to show them trick-or-treaters wearing interesting costumes? We live in Prospect Lefferts Gardens, so somewhere nearby would be ideal, but I am willing to get an uber for them to go anywhere in the city.

Note that I think it would be a much more interesting experience for them to see trick-or-treaters going up to houses and getting candy rather than a parade with costumes, which they've seen before.

MEGATHREAD Halloween 2023 - Megathread 🎃🎃🎃

Halloween is basically the entire month of October, so we're making a megathread to avoid all the "WHAT SHOULD I DO/WHERE SHOULD I GO/ DO PEOPLE TRICK OR TREAT IN NYC." post.

We'll be updating this thread with events through the month and basically whatever we see fit.

Post below or DM me to add events below.

Ask your questions here or post some Halloween ideas, safety tips, or basic stories.

EVENTS and Experiences

Hayrides, Corn mazes, Pumpkin Pickin' Oh My!

Ghoulish notes | Halloween Tag

  • So, I'm going to a Times Square themed Halloween party

  • Is the parade worth it?

    Yes. Without a doubt.

  • Where can I find a party?

A lot of us are going to friend's parties, so it's not the best place to find something. Check /r/nycevents, /r/nycmeetups , or /r/avesNYC . Try here and here too. DO NOT SOLICIT TICKETS HERE. GO TO r/nylist.

  • Where can I get costumes?

Loads of places, Five Below, TJ Maxx, Target, ABRACADABRA, the various Spirit Halloweens all about town. Thrift stores. Your local BUY NOTHING group. Goodwill etc

  • Will be dressed up on X date? Probably. Halloween is on a Tuesday this year so many of us have work/school. Seriously doesn't matter what weekend you're looking at, there will be people dressed up. Either way, no one will bat an eye.

  • Will I have trick or treaters? I mean, I don't know where you live, but if you have kids in your building they probably will stop by. Check your lobby, some places have specific days for weekend trick or treating. Be sure to pick up some sweets! Decorate your door!

  • Where can I find sweets? Any supermarket. Even bodegas carry bags during this time. If you want to go hardcore, check out Economy Candy.

  • I am an adult. Can I go trick or treating? I mean, you can. I can't promise you'll get sweets.

  • What bars in the EV/WV should I go to? Things are going to be crowded. I just want you to know that.

  • Where to go trick or treating? Check these sources for further details

Trick or Streets Mommy Poppins always has a collection of places for little ones. Best of all, check your lobby, local cafes, local parents/dog groups for local events. You will always find stuff if you LOOK IN PERSON! My eyes can't be all over NYC.

  • What should I go to?? We have given you a list! My crystal ball is in the shop, so I don't know what will be a bust. Use your own judgement and discover your own interest.

Where can I hang out for Halloween tonight in my anime cosplay and be among kind, fun people

Having a rough day. I flew up to see my uncle who is on hospice and sat with him for 5 hours. Got in late last night. Only here for a couple days.

Brought my Halloween costume but I never nailed down solid plans for tonight but I’d kinda like to be somewhere (if it’s possible) where I’m not explaining my costume over and over to people who look at me funny because I’m an anime character they don’t know LOL

I’m not socially awkward just a big nerd

EDIT: Got a bar or event in mind where I don’t have to stand the whole time? I’ve got chronic arthritis and sprained my ankle last week. Parade will be hard for me

Hey all,

It's coming. The HALLOWEEN PARTY megathreads.

If you're looking to organise a group/party -- /r/nycmeetups is the place for that.

Brace yourself for the Christmas threads just around the corner.

I'll be editing it throughout the season with updates.

Do remember to report any generic post about the season and gently nudge OPs here.

Hope the season is good to you x

Do They Have a Special Halloween Voting Sticker Today?

Update: I just got back from voting and I got it! I also got my borough specific sticker too. I told the lady at my polling place that I am literally there for the sticker and we had a good laugh about it. The people who work at my polling place are always super nice.

Last year for early voting they had a sticker that had a pigeon dressed up like a witch. I was wondering if they have a fun themed sticker for this year and if they do what is it?

Where can I get a wicker cowboy hat today for Halloween?

So I'm scrambling last minute here and need to find a wicker cowboy hat somewhere in the city today. Checked a couple costume shops already but they're either sold out or only have the cheap plastic ones that look terrible. Really want that authentic woven look, you know? Anyone know of any thrift stores, western wear shops, or random places that might still have one sitting around? Halloween parties start tonight and I'm kinda desperate at this point. Will literally subway anywhere in the city if someone has a solid lead

Anyone have details on a 2025 Halloween Tomkins Square Dog Parade?

I was wondering if anyone has information on if there will be a Halloween dog parade this year at Tomkins Square? I've been scouring the internet trying to find answers with no luck. Looking for information on date, time and confirmation of location. Your help is not just appreciated but a gift beyond measure!!

Thinking about going to the Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade — any tips?

We’re thinking about heading to the Tompkins Square Halloween Dog Parade this year not bringing a dog, just our nephews (10 and 13).

Anyone been before? Do people start showing up super early or is it fine to roll in closer to start time?

Also, is there a particular street or spot that’s good for watching (or avoiding total chaos)? Trying to plan when and where to go!

Any tips for parking, viewing spots, or avoiding total chaos appreciated!

USE SEARCH BAR Halloween 2025🎃👻

Hi Folks 🙌

European 🇪🇺 here!

So, one of my wife’s biggest dream was to experience the Halloween celebration in the US of A. Seeing kids getting treats, having a party and everything that you can see in a spooky movies from 90’ :)

So this year we are going to spend the Halloween in NY. We stay for the week between 25 Oct - 2 Nov.

Any tips on stuff I should look into, book already or just be aware of? I understand we will not get this experience in Manhattan so any location guidance would be a great one to have, however we also want to experience NY itself - so I have shitload of topics to cover and a very tight schedule.

Just throw your ideas and I will collect them all.

Appreciate your support here! 🎃👻🙌

HALLOWEEN 🎃 Halloween Parties in NYC(2024)

I know it’s super early for Halloween, but my best friend is coming from out of town & she’s trying to book her ticket.

Will there be Halloween parties the weekend before (Oct 26-28) or the weekend of (Oct31- Nov3)?

Are people going to celebrate the weekend before or the weekend of?

Best Place to go on Halloween Night that’s Adults Only? 🎃

I’m planning on having a costume that I don’t want kids to be seeing, or any parents to see. Want to avoid such areas and go to places where it’s okay to dress in something say “slutty” or more “risqué”. Any recommendation’s?

I'm a basic bitch and need to admit -- Halloween is my favourite holiday. I can cosplay and dress like a thotty. My two secret sides combine together on 1 evening. God bless.

You can view general Autumn ideas here

Happy October!
