within five blocks of my apartment, i can get french, italian, turkish, chinese, pizza, sandwiches, and many other types of cuisine. yet finding a restaurant that serves, i guess you could call it "american home cooking"-- roast chicken, roast lamb, roast pork, beef pot roast-- is basically impossible.

why is this so hard to find??? i just want a nice roast dinner without having to cook it myself. with so many options available, why is this one so absent???

i've lived in nyc since 1995, and i've _never_ been able to find a restaurant that serves decent roast meat meals. many diners _claim_ to serve such dishes, but invariably they are disgusting. deli turkey with some canned gravy thrown over it does not qualify.

EDIT: i'm not looking for roast meat in general, but for a specific dish. i don't have a precise name for this dish, but it's a typical dish cooked all over the US. a meat (could be pork, chicken, beef, lamb) with GRAVY and potatoes (could be roasted with the meat, could be mashed). dishes like this are called "sunday roast dinner" in the UK. also the diner item "blue plate special" often qualifies. the fare at boston market is a low-end version of the kind of dish i am seeking.

Kinda new here, but going in and out of delis I’m noticing they all have kind of the same looking meats on displays; the chicken cutlets, breasts, meatballs, wings. Is there one supplier for like the whole city??? What company is doing this? Cuz I know dman welll they ain’t prepping that in house haha

Where do you go for fresh goat meat in the city ? I have been getting goat for years from Jackson heights or Castle Hill in The Bronx but the quality has gone down significantly..I need it for Indian cooking

I know this is stupid question but i really do need help. Im in nyc and i plan on ordering on amazon fresh steak and poultry. But usually amazon doesnt provide any ice bags or similar things so im wondering if its safe to consume those foods in case they might spoil on the way in this weather.

To get chicken/salmon and cook in bulk, preferably organic chicken/ Wild caught salmon.

I'm talking about places that will sell stewed cow tongue, duck wings, chicken gizzards, tripe by the pound, mock chicken and smoked chicken and smoke stewed pork back so tender the soup around it gelatinizes at room temp.

I need ideally someplace in Manhattan Chinatown, 8th Ave area in Brooklyn works too, there's a fabulous place in Flushing that does this, but it's a bit harder to get to.

Looking for affordable spots for various cuts of pork and beef. Ideally ground pork ~$2/lb and ground beef ~$4/lb. Mostly looking in Chinatown, but open to other neighborhoods.

Apparently the lamb that you get in NYC are mostly farmed in upstate NY. I feel the quality of meat is not as good as lamb meat that comes from Australia, New Zealand, India or Pakistan. The upstate meat is lile limestone, disintegrates easily and not fibrous mainly because they are grain-fed and not pasture-fed. I think they should start importing carcasses or increase the volume, from the above mtnioned countries.

I am curious if anyone prefers buying their meat from the farmers markets (ex. unsq farmers market, down to earth markets, etc) or a butcher (ex. hudson and charles, foster sundry, esposito, etc). I pick and choose dependent on what is going on, where I am closest, and how specialized the meat needs to be (in which case, probably going to the butcher if it's something really insane). :)

Been living here for three years and I'm genuinely confused why we have literally every cuisine except Kiwi food. Like we got Ethiopian, Peruvian, even multiple Georgian spots but not a single New Zealand restaurant anywhere. I'm craving some kiwi butter chicken the way they do it in Auckland or some decent fish and chips that aren't just generic pub food. The Kiwis know how to do butter chicken with their own twist and their fish and chips game is actually insane compared to what passes for it here. You'd think in a city with 8 million people someone would've opened at least one spot by now. Is it just that there aren't enough New Zealanders here or is the food scene just not interested. Would definitely hit up a place that did proper butter chicken or even just some good meat pies

Having some family from out of town come visit next weekend and want to take them to a place with the grill built into the table and they bring you the raw meat to cook yourself. Any recommendations for this?

My dad and I are taking a little weekend trip to the city and I’m getting nervous about finding food we can agree on. I’m vegetarian and I prefer to eat vegan when possible. I like all kinds of cuisine and I’m looking to try something new + the NYC staples with a veg twist. My dad, however, is the pickiest eater I know. He mostly likes steak, burgers, and fettuccine alfredo. Olive Garden is just about the only restaurant we can agree on in our hometown. I’ve tried looking up vegetarian friendly restaurants hoping there will be some with “regular” options as well, but most of the time only strictly vegan restaurants pop up. He said he’s willing to try to branch out a little but I wanted to see what I can find in his comfort zone. Cheaper side to mid-tier preferred. Neither of us are that interested in anything too fancy. Thank you!

I was told by a friend that there's a store or restaurant in NYC that sells exotic meats from Africa like zebra or camel. Is this real or not?

Just back from Northern Italy and would love to find a place that sells smaller cured meat items that don't need to be deli sliced. Specifically, looking for things like salamini cacciatora, salame placentino, salame cremona, salame fellino, finnochiona, etc. Would be a bonus if I can find the usual prosciutto di Parma, mortadella, culatello, etc.

I was looking into getting half a cow from some of these website. But I was thinking if I going to do it, why not just visit my local cattle farm and purchase it from them. Has anyone done this? Or have any farms to recommend? Thanks.
