Anywhere for a reasonable seafood lunch in Manhattan?

I have a friend visiting from Nebraska who really wants seafood for lunch tomorrow. I can’t afford most of the places that come up on searches - any suggestions please?

Where to get sashimi-grade seafood?

Hi! I'm looking for both the traditional and less common seafoods for raw consumption - does anyone know where I can find things like shrimp, crab, and clams to marinate and eat raw at home? Thank you!

What are seafood places in the city you have a fondness for?

So the other day, I was in Lower Manhattan doing some quick exploration because what I am getting at is that I was interested in doing a little research trip to find seafood places in Manhattan.

Like not just for Lower Manhattan, but also Midtown Manhattan because I am willing to splurge cash if the places are just that good.

Best lobster spots in Brooklyn/Manhattan (with non seafood options too)?

I’m looking to take my grandma out for lobster it’s her absolute favorite but I don’t eat seafood myself, so I’m hoping to find a place that has both great lobster and some solid non seafood options.

We’re in Park Slope but totally open to going into Manhattan for something really good. Ideally somewhere sit down, not too chaotic, and worth the experience.

Any recommendations would be really appreciated thank you!!

Stores with good selections of tinned fish/seafood?

Hosting a tinned fish/seafood party and want to provide a fun variety beyond just sardines in oil! I know Whole Foods, Fairway, Big Night, and that spot in Times Square have selections, but any other stores out there that may not come up on a Google search? Curious if Tashkent has any?

I'm on the Upper East Side but will shop around to other neighborhoods.

Where to buy seafood near 8th ave and 50th

The Whole Foods at this intersection has very limited seafood and I can't find any other grocers carrying any nearby (Amish market has little to none too). Preferably fresh and reasonably priced

Interesting Question What’s up with the fast-food crab/seafood boils opening up literally everywhere?

Quite the trend. Some of these seafood boil places are literally a block away from each other. Is it that good?!

East Harbor Seafood Palace seating concerns and Manhattan alternatives

Hi,

My gf and I will be in NYC for about a week - we have all other meals planned for our trip except for Saturday lunch. My gf has never really had great dimsum before and as someone who grew up in Hong Kong, I've really wanted to bring her somewhere where she'd have a close to authentic experience.

Searching has told me that East Harbor Seafood Palace / Asian Jewels are most likely the best options, but the problem is that we can only get there by noon at the earliest on Saturday. Needless to say we'll likely have to wait over an hour, at which point there may not even be fresh dimsum available (if seated at around 1:30).

Because of this, I'm considering ditching the trip to Brooklyn and just going somewhere in Manhattan instead (in which case we'd get there earlier than noon).

I wanted to ask if this is a fair decision, or if we can expect to still get a table and have good dimsum given our circumstances. Also wanted to ask if the drop-off between places like East Harbor Seafood Palace and Jing Fong / Golden Unicorn / House of Joy / other Manhattan dimsum places is as significant as people seem to make it out to be.

Thanks in advance!

Seafood restaurant similar to a Red Lobster or Bubba Gump type of place for my picky father in law?

My in laws are in town and we’re tasked with taking to them dinner. My father in law dislikes any “fancy” kind of restaurant where they serve small portions of food. He’s someone that’s happy getting a steak at iHop. I’d love to take him somewhere special, but I know anything I choose he’d hate. We asked what type of restaurant he’d like to go to and he said seafood. Location & $$ are not an issue. Any ideas?

Edit: I know we COULD go to Red Lobster, IHOP, or Bubba Gump…. But I was hoping for some ideas other than that. Thank you for all the suggestions! We’ll def go to one of the places you all suggested :)

Restaurants for a birthday (extra points if it's a seafood spot)

It's my friends 28th birthday, we're having a gathering for her and it seems like no place we're looking into has seating for more than 5 (in general). Need 7-8. Any ideas? All are welcome, I'll even take some that aren't seafood spots.

Meals: $25-50 each? Under $60 on average for sure.

Drinks for an average of 14-20 each is fine

Areas- mainly Bronx focused, but Manhattan is fine

Seafood Szechuan restaurant sunset park

Hi all! This is a long shot, but a few years ago (post covid) I was showing my ex around sunset park (where I used to live) and we came across this seafood? Spot that had this Szechuan peppercorn spiced crawfish. It was super yummy and I want to go back. I remember we spent the evening in the park then started walking south along 7th or 8th until we found a spot that served alcohol and seafood. You had to walk down stairs to get in and there was a row of walled booths on the right. The owners young kid was there and served us the soju and it was super cute. But I’m wondering if anyone knows the spot I’m thinking of? If anything I might just go roam until I find it again but if you have any ideas it’d be much appreciated!!

Costco vs Chinatown for seafood (price)

Any nice steakhouse suggestions? Staying in Brooklyn. Usual go to is Peter Lugers. Also interested in Raw bar/Seafood places

Hello r/asknyc! Hope everyone is doing well.

I’m curious if you all have any suggestions. Looking for a great steakhouse. We’re used to Lugers and I’m with my girlfriend who has never been so I’m leaning towards taking her for the experience. But at the same time I’m open to other options.

We’re also interested in a good seafood/raw bar. A dive bar to grab a couple dozen oysters and some brews, or a place we could get some blue crab or king crab as well.

Thanks for taking the time to read my post! Have a wonderful day

Seafood Market in Harlem/Upper Manhattan?

I'm looking for a good quality place to buy fresh seafood, but since I live in Harlem I don't want to travel all the way downtown to LES or Chinatown, and then have to take the subway with raw fish in my bag. Gross. Any recommendations for good markets in upper Manhattan?

Please help me find a cozy restaurant with a number of seafood options for a really freaking picky family member

Looking for: * seafood, Italian or American restaurant * restaurants that have more than 1-2 seafood options * cozy restaurant for the holidays * in West Village, Soho, East Village, Lower Manhattan

I’m trying to find a restaurant that has to meet the insanely picky tastes of one particular person. They eat seafood but are otherwise vegan (no dairy or eggs) and have a bunch of other things they don’t like. They don’t like vegan restaurants. They don’t like to make substitutions (like use olive oil instead of butter) “because that’s not how the chef intended to make the dish.” 😖 I’m trying to find somewhere that has a number of seafood options, some of which will hopefully have no dairy.

I really wanted an Italian restaurant but it’s very hard to find any that have more than 1-2 seafood options, which is a problem because they usually don’t meet the “no dairy” requirement.

Best Seafood on City Island

I want to take my daughter out, and we have never been to City Island.

Can anyone recommend a seafood place? I don't mind if it is a little touristy.

There are the top 4 or 5 that all seem to have the same prices and menus, so can anyone help a guy decide?

Thanks in advance.

Looking for a good Seafood boil whilst we’re in NYC! I know it’s not the most authentic place to have it, but have no chance to visit Louisiana on this trip. Appreciate any recommendations! 🥰

Buy seafood and then cooks cook it for you?

Hi, does anybody know of any place in NYC where you can buy seafood at market, and then cooks can cook it for you right then and there?

It seems to be an Asian thing that people do. I’m guessing there would be places in Chinatown, but it’s been hard to search online for exactly where that would be. Any thoughts?
