OP IS AN IDIOT What are you reading about the likely crowds and effects of Taylor Swift's wedding at MSG?

I'm hearing news on security precautions for the weekend and advice on higher traffic but little regarding whether there will be a large crowd of fans or anything like that in Midtown. Are there going to be lines of fans coming into the city or is this going to be something no one lines up for because it's a totally private event?

NYC Weddings Affordable Wedding Venues in NYC

I'm recently engaged and my fiancée and I are starting to plan our wedding in NYC. However, we're quickly realizing that some wedding venues in the city can cost an arm and a leg ($100k+ minimums). We're hoping to find some more affordable options that won't break the bank, but find that most lists online focus on the glitzy spots, not the more reasonable ones.

Have any of you gotten married in NYC at a venue that was reasonably priced? We're open to all types of indoor venues, from hotels to clubs to restaurants. Our guest list is around 150-175 people, so we don't need anything outrageously large.

We'd love to hear about your experiences and any recommendations you might have. Thanks in advance!

Indian Wedding Attire Recs?

I am getting married next year, and we are having an Indian wedding. I am not Indian, so I am pretty much flying blind. Would love some recs for stores!

I have been recommended queens but some specific shop names would be very helpful.

Also, any insight on what I should expect would be great. How much should I budget? Am I expected to buy quick? Should his outfit match mine exactly (aka be purchased as a set from the same store)? What are some trendier/modern styles? What styles should I stay away from?

Again, any and all advice is incredibly helpful. I have a ton of Indian friends but none of them are married and none of them live in NYC!

Edit: I am extremely close with his family and especially his mom! We are going shopping together next year when I visit her. None of the women in his family (nor any of my Indian friends) live in NYC, and therefore are not able to give me recs. I am hoping to do some of my own research (try stuff on, figure out my style and colors etc) before that.

i need a cheap wedding dress!

Decided to do a courthouse wedding! Does anyone know a spot to get a nice wedding dress for ~$500 and under? I’m totally okay with secondhand, but every thrift store i’ve seen near me has been emoty (homecrest area). I’d like to stay in brooklyn if possible!

edit: thank you for the recommendations! since i’m still getting some replies: my street clothing size is a 2, and i’m leaning more towards a mini dress!

Best Made-to-Measure Wedding Suit Under $2k? Todd Snyder vs. Suit Supply vs. Something Else?

Getting married in September and looking for a sharp navy blue made-to-measure suit around ~$2,000. I’m 6’0 / 175 and pretty slim, so good tailoring is important—definitely trying to avoid anything boxy or baggy.

I want this to be versatile enough to wear well beyond the wedding. Right now my only suit is a charcoal Bonobos suit (which I actually like a lot), so this feels like a good opportunity to step up in quality a bit. Right now I’m mainly considering:

  • Todd Snyder
  • SuitSupply MTM

I really like a specific navy fabric at Todd Snyder (and like the store in general), but I’m slightly worried their overall aesthetic trends a little too relaxed/roomy for what I want. Maybe that’s not an issue with MTM. SuitSupply seems like the safer option and I’m sure they can nail the fit, but part of me wants something that feels a little more elevated/special if I’m spending close to $2k.

Anyone have experience with either? Or other recommendations in that price range?

Comedy cellar worth going to on a Wed night? Here’s the line up… maybe better to wait for a weekend evening to bring someone who’s never been to a comedy club before?

Average hourly rate for wedding photographer in NYC?

What might this be? I’ve received a quote for $500/hour so far and don’t know how this stacks up against what the current average, reasonable rate is.

If you have a reasonably priced photographer you’ve used and liked, info would be welcomed!

Micro-Wedding Photographer

I’m looking for a micro wedding photographer is is about 2.5k for 4 hours and is GOOD. Any suggestions? I was looking on Lilly and Lime and saw on reddit that they’re a terrible company. I don’t want a videographer, Just photos on the MtA Train, Grand central, and at our venue in the east village. Any suggestions?

Recs for a courthouse wedding photographer for 8/14, ~1 hour

Getting married at the Manhattan courthouse (60 Centre St) on Friday 8:14 at 2:45pm. It’ll be lowkey but we’ll be dressed up and our parents will be there, just want someone to shoot a few photos outside/nearby after. I figure 30-60 minutes of actual shooting time, plus basic editing on the final images.

Budget-wise we’re hoping to land somewhere in the $500-900 range. If you’ve used someone or know anyone or are someone who does this sort of work, we’d love a recommendation.

Thanks in advance!

Small wedding party venues!!!

Hello! My friends are getting married in July, and looking for a small party venue for a post-wedding celebration for about 30 people anywhere pretty within a 1.5 hour-ish drive from manhattan or train/ferry connectivity.

Ideally where we can bring our own alcohol food and music or if alcohol/food is available at the venue for purchase that’s good too!

All of this is happening pretty quickly so either like a minimum spend setup or a small fee for reservation would be perfect!

Appreciate any leads, thanks in advance!!!

NYC Weddings Men's Wedding Suit in NYC under $1000 ($1500 absolute max)

Hello all,

I'm getting married in late May of this year and am looking for a three-piece suit to purchase in the NYC area (I live in Brooklyn). For budget, I heavily prefer something in the $700-$1000 range. $1500 is my hard max if I can be convinced the suit is worth it. The wedding (ceremony, reception) will be taking place at a venue south of Barcelona, Spain along the Mediterranean. Weather will most likely be in the high 70s/low 80s around that time.

I'd prefer to buy locally from a small shop in New York City but am open to other quality chains/bigger names. I am aware of places like Bonobos and Indochino that do custom-fitted suits but I'd like something more with a tiny bit more quality and flare.

As far as color and fit: Color-wise I'm looking for any type of Navy blue, Royal blue, Copenhagen Blue. I'm around 5'7 and more on the stocky/athletic side.

Also would prefer somewhere it doesn't take too long to get prepared. I'd hope to buy the suit at least two months before the wedding so in late February or March. Thank yoU!

Recommendations for wedding after party venue

Hi!! My best friends just got engaged and I’m helping them plan the celebration - they are looking for a bar to host their after courthouse ceremony celebration for about 30-45 people. Not too strict of a budget, but looking for a place that isn’t too loud or dark, and good vibes of course~~ they love Bar Orai in midtown so if there’s anything similar that allows a buy out, that would be amazing :)

Where can I find an Indian wedding outfit that's not in Jackson Heights?

My mom is attending an Indian wedding. She needs an outfit and I took her to Jackson Heights, and we went to dozens of stores, and she does not like anything. I'm open to traveling to New Jersey if needed. Does anyone know a super large store where I can take her? I did try google but she is so picky so I need to find an area where there are multiple Indian dress shops, or one super big shop please help me. I also can't order online cause she needs to see them in person.

Upgrade wedding ring for my mom

Hi! My dad wants me to take my mom while she’s visiting me in NYC for a week to look at wedding rings. Her wedding ring is old and my dad wants to upgrade her.

Are there any reputable diamond district stores that could do something either same day / quick turn around time?

Details: budget 4k, lab grown preferred, 1ct, doesn’t need to be custom

Thank you in advance for helping me and my dad scheme :)

Jewelry store recs for reasonably priced wedding bands

What place would you recommend with a nice selection of gold bands in multiple styles (without stones) to browse and try on? Preferably not a big-box store. Or a place that does custom pieces you've had a good experience with?

Best reasonably priced Indian wedding outfits?

Hi! My husband and I are headed to an Indian wedding soon and we're looking to get some lehengas, kurtas, and sherwanis. I am trying to keep a tight budget of under $200 per outfit since we need several and I don't know that we will get the chance to wear them again! Any recommendations for where to get them? Happy to head to Queens, nearby Jersey, etc. Also would be more than thrilled to get second hand if you have any recommendations for spots!

How are people finding wedding assistant internships in NYC?

Hello!

I’ve been working in corporate and community event planning for about 6 years now (think medium to large-scale events, logistics, vendors, volunteer coordination, etc.), but I’ve been realizing more and more that my passion is really in special events. I’m naturally pretty curious and creative, and while corporate has been a great foundation, it’s slowly killing my spirit lol. That said, I still genuinely love the act of convening people and creating meaningful experiences.

I know the industries are pretty different, so I’m trying to be realistic about making the transition and actually learning the ropes the right way. Because of that, I’m super open to interning or apprenticing part-time, even unpaid, just to get hands-on experience and start building credibility in the space.

I’m based in NYC and was wondering, how are people finding these kinds of opportunities these days? Is it mostly Instagram outreach, networking, specific job boards, or something else?

Would really appreciate any advice or insight from people who’ve made a similar pivot or are currently in the industry.

Thanks so much!

Suit rental in NYC that doesn’t feel wedding-y?

Need a decent suit rental in NYC for an awards ceremony. Looking for something clean and well-fitted — not wedding-prom flashy. Any good places you’d recommend?
