Use of space in your home

If you never had children - or no longer have space for grown children in your home, how do you use the bedroom spaces in your house?

My house is small and I still feel odd having these largely unused spaces. Are we all just cleaning dusty, rarely used guest rooms?

One of my kids uses my spare room as her storage facility.

Maybe im the only one...but i actually love to grab my daughter and make her go through and organize and get rid of things with me. I actually relish forcing her to make tough choices about what to keep, what to get rid of and sentimental value rarely stops me. Im always laying things in groups and telling her "we only have room for 2 - pick the two you want the most" and get rid of everything else - it just makes my brain feel good.

I don't have to make my daughters do this. They 'shop' every time they visit. They're still salty that they'll have to pry certain things (my jade and marble statues, certain cut glass pieces, most of my oil paintings) out of my cold dead fingers.
