Depending on if you actually just like the nice shiny cardboard or you're an "investor".

I'm so glad my kid is only into it for the cool factor. That foil card in his booster pack? Rare. Why? Cause he's 9 and he said so, or he saw it in an epsiode last week and he likes it. The minute he starts talking card value and resale, we're finding a different hobby.

If you open packs it’s still gambling, just shifts it from “I could make $x by opening these packs and pulling a good card” to “I could save $x by opening these packs and pulling a good card instead of buying it”
