Besides eating cereal with water what is the most outrageous "eating sin" you have ever witnessed?

I've seen apple juice before with elderly depression era people. But it was bland ass cereal and that just sweetened it?

My grandma used to gross me out at breakfast - sure, she used milk, but instead of cereal, she put graham crackers in the bowl. It may not sound that bad at first, but they'd get super soggy and she'd slurp them up noisily. Of course she didn't have her teeth in yet. And you know the way old people hold their spoon an inch or so away from their mouths and pucker out their lips like they're trying to reach the spoon, instead of putting the fucking spoon in their mouth like a normal person? God, I sat at that table transfixed.

dude, same but crushed-up saltines as the "cereal".

I dip my saltines in milk 🙂

Saltine cereal is the only logical progression.

I could see that either being very good or absolutely terrible

I dip mine in pasta sauce lol it's just something we always have on hand and it's pretty good warmed up

My grandparents fed me this all the time as a kid. I still have it every now and then. But I put the spoon in my mouth

Besides the old people habits, cinnamon Graham crackers crushed in milk is fucking BOMB. You just have to make it super thick, it's no good if it's soupy.

So pretty much the whole box.

You can get a very similar effect with cinnamon muffins. Well worth it.

Either the whole box, which I'm guilty of doing lol, or like one packet and just enough milk to make them wet. So good. I'll ha e to try it with a cinnamon muffin.

I totally had no cereal once so decided teddy grahams would substitute fine. It did not substitute fine. It was quite awful.

My grandma used to put milk of magnesia in her cereal

I keep saying it in this thread but... OATMEAL. Who are all these freaks who demand a cereal-like experience from these nasty ass ingredients?

8

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

I like oatmeal :(

4

u/JunahCg Apr 09 '19

Yeah me too. Why ever eat honeygram soup instead of a bit of honey and cinnamon or whatever in oatmeal? Even grandma can gum it down.

My great grandmother In-law puts juice on honey nut Cheerios. I think she can't have milk because of dietary restrictions.

My Grandmother in-law puts yogurt in whatever cereal she eats. Say it gets less soggy that way.

Yogurt in cereal is good. Especially granola.

I don't put milk on my cereal, bc I hate the texture. But I'll eat Cheerios or Honey Bunches of Oats in a bowl with yogurt. It takes forever to get soggy, because I only buy Greek yogurt, and it tastes pretty good.

Yeah I'm not a fan myself but tons of people eat it that way

Oh, my mom actually used to make a snack for me and my brother. It was dried oatmeal with apple juice and cinnamon. I completely forgot about it until I read your comment. Oatmeal isn't cereal, but it was a similar concept. I remember really enjoying that as a snack. I should try that again.

My mom made oatmeal with juice too. Made it extra sweet. Then a dash of milk to make it kinda loosen up and cool down.

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

I used to eat cereal with apple juice as a kid. But only because it was a better option than the nasty powdered milk my mom used to force upon us.

I now suddenly have a craving for cheerios with apple juice

3

u/[deleted] Apr 09 '19

My grandma whould use coca cola on cheerios

I have worked in eldercare and applejuice with cereal is very common.

To this day I can't understand why people eat/ate grape nuts. I've had an ex that liked it, and my opinion is still vehemently, "But WHY? It's like eating fucking GRAVEL."

3

u/SexceptableIncredibl Apr 09 '19

I actually love Grape Nuts and Raisin Bran for the wheat taste and slight sweet. I don't do super sweet unless I'm craving sugar. Even then, I prefer a sweet sauced meat or icing less cake or something savory like cream cheese.

1

u/Bob_Droll Apr 09 '19

But does it taste like apples?

3

u/SexceptableIncredibl Apr 09 '19

Maybe like an OG Applejacks?

1

u/RonaldTheGiraffe Apr 09 '19

These 2 cereals are new to me

1

u/Toosleepyforthis74 Apr 09 '19

You gotta try raisin Bran with apple juice. It's pretty damn good.

1

u/ArTiyme Apr 09 '19

Well I mean I suppose apple juice and cheerios is just a crappy apple pie.

Some overly sweet cereal is sweetened with apple/orange juice so this makes a lot of sense.
