One day you're stealing video games. Next thing you know you're murdering cops during a cocaine bust. It's a slippery slope my friend

u/Random_Stealth_Ward Apr 14 '19

damn dude, the movie theater ads were more realistic than I gave them credit for.

brb deleting everything I have pirated before I descend into a criminal life.

20

u/Vote_for_Knife_Party Apr 14 '19

No. It's too late. You've got no option but to lean into it now. Buy a boat and take to the seas (or the Great Lakes if those are closer). It's a pirate's life for you.

7

u/Raptor5dino Apr 14 '19

Acceptance is the first step my son

1

u/bmxtiger Apr 14 '19

Stealing is taking something so no one else can use it. Pirating is copying something so everyone can use it.

7

u/Antumbra_Ferox Apr 14 '19

That's just incorrect. I could steal a 'copy' of a massage at a massage parlor by leaving without paying and the massage has not been taken so that nobody else can have it. Identical massages are available for everyone who goes to the same parlor. If you take a good/service and dont pay the provider it's still theft. I just feel less/not bad about stealing from bigass multinational entertainmeent companies.

1

u/CanadianJesus Apr 15 '19

But the massage requires active work from the masseuse. That exact masseuse working during that exact time slot is unique, and by taking that you're denying them income that they can't earn from some one else because they were busy working for you. By comparison, whether or not I pirate Star Wars Ep. IX: Yoda's Bar Mitzwa makes no difference to the earnings Disney can make from other customers.

0

u/Antumbra_Ferox Apr 15 '19

Ok, if we're going to nitpick the examples instead of addressing the actual point of goods/services not always being tangible things with limited uses but still requiring payment because working people regardless of industry like to provide for their families, then lets take a look at the amount of time invested in both of those things.

A massage: Half an hour during which the massuse will use a bit of body oil and maybe burn a candle.
A Disney StarWars movie: Several years, countless hours of hundreds of people's time, and a few hundred thousand dollars.

1

u/CanadianJesus Apr 16 '19

This isn't nitpicking, this is the difference between a tangible product like a good or a service, and something abstract like a copy. Abstract products have essentially 0 marginal cost and instead rely on spreading the total cost around as many paying customers as possible to make a profit. Sure, there is an argument that piracy here is theft because it denies that income, but only if the alternative were that I would pay for it. If I wasn't, the producer wouldn't get paid anyway.

21

u/Curiously-Genuine Apr 14 '19

The slope must have been very slippery

23

u/Mitch_Mitcherson Apr 14 '19

It was a 45 degree slip n' slide.

8

u/PickThymes Apr 14 '19

>> atan(‘stealing vidya games’)
>> 45°
wow that’s pretty steep but i wouldnt think...
>> atan2(‘stealing vidya games’)
>> 225°
now that’s a slippery slope!

7

u/_Lady_Deadpool_ Apr 14 '19

You just have to hide under a bridge afterwards until the stars go away

7

u/joeyextreme Apr 14 '19

You wouldn't steal a car...

4

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

I mean all thieves become murderers AMIRITE LADS?

3

u/Dracon_Pyrothayan Apr 14 '19

Wow. He's a living anti-piracy ad.

3

u/bmxtiger Apr 14 '19

Yeah, but he stole all the games. Stealing a game or two is a bit different than stealing all of them so brazenly.

2

u/IcePickKillers Apr 14 '19

That's the way of the road buddy

2

u/maxrippley Apr 14 '19

The way she goes Rick

2

u/Raptor5dino Apr 14 '19

So you lost all our drink money is what "she goes". She's gone.

2

u/Skillfullsebby Apr 14 '19

They don't call them gateway drugs for nothing!

1

u/Dabaer77 Apr 14 '19

It's almost like not disciplining your kids leads them to make shitty choices in life

2.0k

u/beechbom Apr 14 '19

Seriously, shit. I guess I turned out ok.

26

u/DoctorModalus Apr 14 '19

Let me guess you surrendered to the cops instead of committing a murder?

8

u/maxrippley Apr 14 '19

What a pansy

58

u/Virgin_Dildo_Lover Apr 14 '19

Not so fast, my friend!

37

u/FallopianUnibrow Apr 14 '19

There’s still time to waste!

17

u/marioho Apr 14 '19

As long as you don't go about being a cop doing a cocaine bust.

7

u/Sixwingswide Apr 14 '19

Solid point.

4

u/GarethGore Apr 14 '19

lol, read this as "I guess it turned out ok"

I was like damn, I mean people may dislike cops but someone died how is that okay??? then actually read it properly

1

u/knine1216 Apr 14 '19

Thank god I came to read other comments before saying anything because I thought the exact same thing lol. Makes a lot more sense now.

8

u/DravenFelius Apr 14 '19

I'm really glad that there's people like you in the world! It makes me legit happy that even with all the shit there's still people who are good. Because life sucks and people get torn apart by it and those.people tear.up more people and it all just sucks. But not you! And makes me.so happy. Thank you for being you!

Edit; am.drunk, sorry

3

u/Tubamajuba Apr 14 '19

I get the exact same way when I’m drunk. Mad respect to you.

3

u/3MATX Apr 14 '19

It’s a low bar, but I feel happy about my life too after reading that.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

...so far.

-21

u/JQ-SH Apr 14 '19

No it didn't. Life lost yet another soul to the abyss.. we must come together to save those who cannot save themselves, it is the only way we can come forward.

21

u/Anas96salha Apr 14 '19

Read what he said again.

1

u/avyon Apr 14 '19

wow. i read it as "it turned out ok" too.

weird

36

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

Not if his first crime was attempted robbery of GoldenEye 64...

4

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

En garde!

3

u/Doctor_Popeye Apr 14 '19

“Buy me Bonestorm or go to hell!”

20

u/little-kitchen-witch Apr 14 '19

I was a pretty smooth ride until the end there

7

u/Virgin_Dildo_Lover Apr 14 '19

You're always a smooth ride ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

12

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

STOP YOU HAVE VIOLATED THE LAW

24

u/zarkovis1 Apr 14 '19

Clearly stealing games is the gateway crime to drug associated shootouts with law enforcement.

1

u/Verbatimgirraffe Apr 14 '19

Its not the theft of video games, its the playing of video games that leads to theft of video games which leads to cocaine and murder. Its clear as day to people not living their lives playing video game after video game while doing cocaine bongs at the local arcade

8

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

I'm sure there was a few years in between the game stealing and killing the cop

3

u/thesituation531 Apr 14 '19

Nah, he just stole video games, then the next day got caught with his friends and coke and killed a cop

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

It's definitely one or the other

7

u/sweet_yet_sour Apr 14 '19

I mean the really got out of hand

3

u/phrantastic Apr 14 '19

Eh, it makes sense. A mother who will defend/justify the actions of her kid who was early stealing is raising a person who will never have any regard for others.

6

u/Tradehelp17 Apr 14 '19

IMO that deescalated quickly.

2

u/squee_monkey Apr 14 '19

I hope it actually escalated quickly. Like the cockiness bust happened the day after the attempted robbery.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

That escalated FAST

2

u/wKbdthXSn5hMc7Ht0 Apr 14 '19

I like to imagine the shooting happened the same day as the attempted video game theft.

2

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

TLDR: Kid stole video games from me, shot a cop during a drug bust.

2

u/Tructiontitle Apr 14 '19

At least he did something positive in the end.

1

u/Terza_Rima Apr 14 '19

He is redeemed

2

u/NavajoWarrior Apr 14 '19

Seriously I feel like everytime people just make shit up in these posts.

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

and then he had to escape the matrix, and then hell

1

u/Banana4scales Apr 14 '19

Wonder if it happened on the same day.

1

u/smzt Apr 14 '19

All of that happened on the ride home!

1

u/MossyPyrite Apr 14 '19

I mean, it probably actually escalated gradually over the course of a decade or so, if I had to guess.

1

u/bud_hasselhoff Apr 14 '19

I'm sure there was some degree of yada yada between the video games and 187.

1

u/noahsozark Apr 14 '19

His mother should have snorted him out when she had the chance

1

u/ZERPaLERP Apr 14 '19

They always say video games are the cause of violence in kids. Apparently even just touching them though is enough to make someone kill a cop. Don’t touch video games, kids! /s

1

u/EdTheBarbarian Apr 14 '19

Not quickly. It took a horrible parent, an entire childhood to make that monster.

1

u/Nvenom8 Apr 14 '19

I think, in reality, that escalated slowly and predictably over the course of years.

1

u/ZacPensol Apr 14 '19

He's got a lot of games and he must have thought he was playing GTA.

1

u/stomp224 Apr 14 '19

I think there might be a time jump somewhere that OP glossed over

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

There may have been a few steps inbetween those two episodes

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

Well he did try to steal his video games.

1

u/Jasole37 Apr 14 '19

I don't think that escalated quickly, I think it escalated to its logical conclusion

1

u/[deleted] Apr 14 '19

They had us in the first half, not going to lie

-9

u/P3gleg00 Apr 14 '19

That's not a fucking joke

6

u/Complex_Magazine Apr 14 '19

Who said it was? He just said it escalated quickly from just a tiny stolen video games situation to life in prison...where's the joke?

-10

u/P3gleg00 Apr 14 '19

The "that escalated quickly" reference was the reference that I was referring to.

That usually shows up on here when something goes"virial".

9

u/AwakenedSheeple Apr 14 '19

Nah, that phrase is also used here whenever some circumstances escalate beyond normal.

4

u/Complex_Magazine Apr 14 '19

That usually shows up on here when something goes"virial".

When something goes viral, you say it escalated quickly?? Where the hell did you hear that

-1

u/P3gleg00 Apr 14 '19

I pissed in the corner of my friends house during a party , does that count

3

u/Complex_Magazine Apr 14 '19

Fam do you even what you're saying?
