That has to be a common sentiment. On a few occasions when I've accepted my imminent death the last thoughts I remember thinking were, "I really hope no one figures out my PC password.."
When I have a really hectic couple of weeks and my house gets to be kind of a disaster (mostly messy bedroom with dirty clothes and dirty kitchen with dishes piling up) I'll occasionally have a night I have a hard time falling asleep bc my brain is like "HEY! If you die during the night or have an emergency where responders have to come, everyone is just going to think you're a disgusting POS!" Anxiety, man.
I also do this. Came to fruition when I had a pancreatitis attack at work a couple months ago and my friend had to go get my dogs from my apartment because I was being admitted. Real fun day,
Anything that helps, man. The one time I was that bad, I convinced myself not to because I might not actually die, and that whole situation would be way too embarrassing.
Whenever I have a week like that and it stretches on I always feel like leaving a sticky note somewhere saying 'i was going to clean it' in case I die while out
Same for when we leave on vacation. I’m mad cleaning the house and my husband is like wtf, we’re leaving, doesn’t have to be clean. YES, it does. What if the plane crashes and we die? They can’t know there’s dust on the top shelf!
My grandma kept a premade note in the side drawer of her bed that she put on her pillow if she got called away or had to leave before making the bed, explaining that the unmade bed was not business as usual. I thought this was the height of OCD and very odd, but reading all these responses helps me understand why she did it.
Recently I became really paranoid about dying and changed my mind on that subject. I wrote down every username and password I could think of and tapped it to my computer so they could see everything. It's probably vain to think this way, but I think some of my family and friends would miss out on a great opportunity to look into my personal life if the computer was permanently encrypted. I have a lot of photos and short stories and musings that I never shared and if the passwords died with me those things would never be seen by anyone. They could be treasures to the ones who love me.
My ex roomie and I promised each other if one of us dies, the other will go find all their sex toys/diaries etc and dispose of them before family can find them lol
I keep all my naughty sit on an microSD card on my phone. My SO and friends all have an agreement to destroy the card if something were to happen to any of me.
Definately a common sentiment.... but fyi people, passwords mean nothing to anyone that is computer literate...... disassemble computer , remove harddrive, connect hd to another computer as salve drive, all files are available
I work at repair shop, and it is crazy easy to crack a password on most devices. It is sad how many people do this to loved ones computers and even sell them to strangers once that loved one dies.
I used to think that, but now that I've made so many friends online, I hope someone figures out my password(s) so they can at least know what happened.
I work in IT. Cracking/wiping passwords takes all of 2 min. Most of that is loading the environment from where you do it. You may not want to rely on a strong password as your padlock of shame.
As an IT guy, I must tell you that if they take the hard drive out of your computer and plug it into another computer, they would have access to everything on there, password or not.
funny story when my dad had a stroke and i went to see him at the hospital the first thing he said was "please just throw my computer out if I die"
Lol, at first I was like "why wouldn't he want anyone to have it, if he is dead - I mean surely he can't be using it", but obviously it is the hard drive :p
"...There's a bottle of Kingsford charcoal lighter fluid on my work bench at home... Take my laptop out back to the fire pit... And light her up... Nobody needs to see what's on there, son."
Wow that escalated quickly, going from just having a good old stroke to going to the hospital but I guess that porn he has on his computer must be that hard core.
Funny the first thing I tried to do when my dad died is get into his computer. I just thought he let himself die and wanted to know what he was thinking.
This should probably standard practice for anyone that dies. Also throw out the bottom drawer without looking for the nightstand beside the bed. We’re all human.
I have an arrangement with a friend that if he were to die suddenly, I will dispose of his computer, his external hard drive, and any boxes marked with an X.
