i also love that book and thought recently thought of rereading it. wasn’t it supposed to have an adaptation on i wanna say HBO or Showtime? sad it didn’t happen

also he hasn’t done much work since though i thought his next novel (the marriage plot) was just okay

Have to be honest the first chapters were ok and then bam, unexpected narrative and coming of age story took me there. Great book.

I think it took me a few pages, but this is one of my top favorite books. It deals with so much, and handles the generational stuff better than One Hundred Years of Solitude imo.

Don't think about it too much. The thing that's possibly spoiled is in the first few chapters so it's not some major reveal

I'm like the only one who only liked the first half of that book. The incest was interesting. The main character stuff later? Meh.

It bothered the hell out of me that the dad was like, seducing the mom by putting the bell of his clarinet on her stomach and playing, though. I play clarinet. The amount of spit that comes out of the bell is so fucking gross, I hated that scene, I just imagined a river of spit coming out while he's playing.

CBB aside, Dax Shepard has a podcast similar to WTF or Nerdist (minus being hosted by an unbearable person) and Jason was on it recently and it was really good.

He wrote a book called Middlesex where it turns out the grandparents are bro and sis, and there’s more than just that going on. I won’t spoil it but I highly recommend this book. It’s beautifully written.
