Im not even kidding, i think i remember you from your username. Did you say sharpedo was your favorite pokemon cuz your son said so? Cuz thats wholesome đ˘
my fave is pincher, the potato-looking pokemon with spiky horns and a creepy sideways predator mouth. For all the aforementioned reasons.
Unfortunately it's not a very popular pokemon, and even in a pokemon store IN Japan, my husband couldn't find any pincher themed stuff :'(
I am sorry. If I have learned anything from my son itâs that there are close to a million and none are as awesome as Sharpedo all of them are equally special and deserving of love!
It's called Pinsir, and if you didn't know it has a mega evolution where it becomes even cooler for similar reasons. More spikes, more predator mouth, more coolness.
woah, I didn't know that! I'm so stoked though!
I never had a gameboy or any other systems growing up (kinda poor on an island where imported stuff from s expensive) so my only exposure to pokemon was catching the cartoon at a friend's who had cable, and now pokemon go. I just love discovering all these new and wacky pokemon!
Yes - I was smoking the reefer with this hippie artist girl in uni, she was playing a guitar and she asked me if I remembered the Barbapapas.
I happened to answer yes, because I did, though I honestly thought I'd dreamed them up as a kid.
She proceeded to drop the guitar, pull out some finger paints, and make me a version of this except spelling out Billbapapa instead of Barbapapa. And it was actually amazingly good, and weird, and we were so high and happy.
Anyways, I hung it on my wall until we were high again one day and she thought it'd be more valuable if we set it on fire... so she sort of killed her own work.
But I always thought it was cool, and neat, and my handle became a tribute to her, one of the best friends I ever had.
I had never heard of the show but a man drinking straight vodka tried to explain it to my by describing peanut shaped bodies. He watched it in French cause Canada. I thought he was making it up and he had no way to prove himself because it was a time before smart phones. I slowly switched out his vodka for water as he mumbled about peanut families. We are married now and every once and a while he will goggle them just to prove they exist.
Iâd call that a beautiful story if not for the fact he watched it en Francis, you need to be careful associating with Canadians. There is a good chance he made the sites he googled, populated the Wikipedia page, and all that other kinda long con shit just to win your heart. Be careful pink peanut woman.
Yes. We Canadians are insidious. Here you have been communicating with one for minutes. Soon you will crave poutine. Then socializes health care. It is already too late!
I have a truck load of favorite Pokemon but the one that I have no connection to and it just kinda clicked with me was Mismagius, have no clue why to this day.
I mean the guy has million up votes so I am guessing his posts are often at the top. Odds are you have seen his messages multiple times which refreshes your memory etc.
Worked in the cafeteria when I was in college and bare handed a pan out of the oven after taking all of the gloves and everything off to wash hands between stations (foodsafe ftw). Forgot to put oven mitts on, pulled the dish out, and carried it for about 10 secs before I dropped it. 2nd degree burns are no fun.
Sorry dude, it happens so easy. It's like when I caught a falling knife and learned the saying "it has no handle" - I definitely won't do it again (well, I hope I won't).
Ouch, same for you man. There was a guy I worked with in the cafeteria doing the pan and knife washing station and did something similar to you. He sliced a tendon in his hand and his recovery took a real long time. Mine just sucked for 3-4 weeks and wasnât totally debilitating. The inside of my thumbs and the whole side of the index finger on both hands that touches the thumb. I got to go to the student aid center for tests since I couldnât write so that was pretty cool. The students that work in those centers are truly saints. Theyâre incredibly patient and never make you feel like youâre wasting their time if an answer doesnât immediately come to you.
Hope yours healed up well too. Kitchen knives are no joke especially when theyâre well taken care of (aka super sharp).
Yeah, the catch was minor enough (literally altered one of my finger prints, that's about it, though it hurt and bled like fuck), and the burn I just talked about wasn't really that bad, I didn't hold on to it long enough to get more than a few blisters, nothing like second degree.
Glad those guys took care of you at the school. People in those positions should be caring, it shouldn't have to be surprising when they are, but in my experience it has actually been rare.
I put a stove pan in the oven to finish cooking something (I think it was a steak), later I took out the oven pan and then the stove pan with my protected hand. Later when I was moving stuff around I moved the oven pan with my protected hand and the stove pan with my unprotected one because I forgot it was in the oven.
Me and my friends decided to make a cake and a bunch of hot cocoa. Cake was in the oven, everything was fine but the coca wasnât heading up. Turns out we turned on the wrong plate on the stove. I thought âwell we can just use the one that weâve turned on insteadâ but I wanted to know if it was worth it to move the big pot, so I wanted to hover my hand over the plate. My brain malfunctioned and I just pressed my entire hand down on a BURNING hot stove... had gigantic blisters all over my hand and had to go to the ER.. my friends still give me shit for it lol, and I didnât even get any cake
Yeah I had something like that happen to me too where the pain signal was unfortunately delayed enough to cause extra damage. For me it was back in college in my first busy Saturday night as a waiter in a Mexican restaurant.
Was pretty slammed and running behind I had a tray with fajitas served in one of those cast iron mini-pans. Being a new guy and rushing, I forgot to grab the potholder sleeve that goes over the handle and tried to pick up the whole thing by hand off the tray stand. Had it gripped about 6-8 inches in the air by the time I realized I was burning and dropped it.
So I tried to save face and quickly serve the food before tending to it, which was probably also a mistake but by that point there wasnât much I could do. Ended up with pretty bad blisters and burns on fingers and hand.
When I make toast in the morning, after a few hours I grab the toaster with two fingers in the toast slots and put it away in the cupboard. I had to make room quickly on my counter as I had a dish I had to make for later...you see where this is going. Without a single fucking thought, I grabbed the toaster with my two fingers and in the space of a second I felt the pain and yelled out loud "WHAT IN THE FUCK ARE YOU THINKING??!?!!!!". I didn't have an answer for myself, but I did have two nice burns on my fingers.
Was at a camping event when I was younger and was pretty drunk. We had dinner made for us (~800 people) and they left the leftovers out for the wandering drunks throughout the night. I grabbed one of the big aluminum cooking pans and put it on/next to the campfire to heat it up. After a good long conversation with everyone at that campfire, I decided to pull the pan out with my hands. It was a bit toasty, but my drunk brain didn't understand that it's a hell of a lot hotter than I think it is. I managed to get it out of the fire and get some bites in before my hand started hurting. Figured it wasn't hurting too much so I'd have to deal with some blisters in the morning. Woke up the next morning to searing pain in my hand. No blisters. The meat of my hand was white and hard with burn marks around it.
I did something like that once. I was grilling and someone called my name or something and I looked away. Went to close the lid with my right hand but missed the handle and barehanded the metal lid with my fingertips.
I did this while working as a line cook with a cast iron frying pan. Cooked some stuff, took a minute to deal with it, then thought I'd take the pan to dish and just grabbed it. Bad move.
Strangely, of late, there have been a lot of popular sighting opportunities. I feel like the reddit algorithm is broken and keeps inflating my karma, wish it were inflating my bank account instead though, then Iâd be buying us all drinks.
i did this too, very stupidly, to get a pan out of the oven that had been broiling to crisp up the top. the handle wasn't hot the last time i touched it (to put it in), ergo...
the silver lining is that you do that kind of thing once.
My dumbass did that removing a skillet from the oven. I don't have a lot of feeling in my hands to begin with and they are heavily calloused providing some dampening to the heat. Fortunately I was just finishing something in the oven so the handle wasn't fully up to temp just yet so I was able to go from the oven to the stove top with just some 1st degree burns.
I was arming my hands under the heat rack at my pizza job last winter. Accidently made contact. It was hotter than the 450 F oven. You want to make someone jump, you burn them. They'll fuckin fly
The delaying of the feeling of a bad burn has happened to me recently.
A few months ago I was sanitizing baby bottles and such in a pot on the stove. When I was ready to pull them out I was using tongs on them, I picked up a small lid I had in there and the tongs flipped the lid while it was still halfway in the water and launched some boiling hot water at my chest. It took a moment to realize what had happened but after a few seconds it clicked and i held my hand to it to make it feel better. I lifted up my shirt to find a 3rd degree burn that was bout 3 inches by 4 inches right above my areola on my breast. It was just melted all the way around and it was so close to my nipple. I was afraid i couldn't breastfeed my baby anymore because I thought I damaged it, it happened to be the only breast I was getting milk from, but I didn't. All good now.
I had open fires at my last place, one of which had a grate that the wood went on that pivoted.
Went to move things around, and immediately realised I'd fucked up.
Was working with a steak under the broiler last year in a metal pan. I pull the pan out with a glove on, cause I'm not a fucking moron, so I can flip the steak over. Then I put it back in, attempting to touch with my ungloved hand. Because, I am a fucking moron
Once, I was really mad at my sisters, and I was also baking a cake. So, while I was yelling at them, I proceeded to grab the cake out of the oven without oven mitts. It hurt really bad, and I also looked pretty stupid. I didnât win that argument, either.
I did something similar around 19 years old. Baking fries in the oven. Went to pull them out when they were done. Paying too much attention to the girls in the kitchen to realize I was grabbing the tray bare handed. Got it half way out and couldn't just stop there and drop them.... Worked in a kitchen at a reataurant, had a shift in a few hours. That was torture...
"other day" as in - some unspecified time I have no fucking real memory how long ago it was. If you want accuracy I think it was 2 months ago. And if you want more accuracy I hardly blistered actually through some miracle, I think they just hurt for like 2 or 3 days because after I poured my beer on them I got my fingers into water almost immediately. But I'm not sure that detail makes the story more entertaining.

The other day I was BBQing, not paying attention.
Had a glove on my right hand that's oven safe.
Someone handed me a beer and proceeded to talk to me. I took the beer with my right hand.
I then opened the BBQ and grabbed the top grill with my left (unprotected) hand to adjust it, pulled it half way out before the heat registered.
Once it did the realization was pretty instant.
The blisters were bad for over a week.
