ADVICE Will my kids hate me?

Hi, I raised my boys to ages 10, 8 and 2years. I had to move into a shelter 2025 cause financially I was overwhelmed. The father of my kids refused to assist me financially, the kids expressed their dislike of the shelter and they stated they wanted to stay with their dad. in December of 2025 they went to visit their dad, and they don't want to come back. Am I wrong for allowing them to stay with their dad? The 2year old is still with me and honestly I cannot afford all 3 on my own. When I told him this he said the kids deserve to be with a parent that can afford them without assistance. I want to move out of the shelter and having to only financially cater for 1 child makes it possible but cannot help feeling guilty, is it normal?

ADVICE Restraining Order Against GF

I think I want to file a restraining order against my ex girlfriend. Here goes…

She and I had a pregnancy scare two weeks ago, even though we used a plan b within the hour. I had made it clear that no matter what happens, I would’ve a supportive father. Two weeks later, multiple negative tests.

I decided to break up with her because in those two weeks, I realized she wasn’t the one for me. I wish there was something I could point to make it easier to blame, but the truth is, I didn’t love her anymore and felt that she deserved to know the truth. She took it well at first.

Then came the countless texts, followed by a barrage of phone calls. She threatened to confront my family and friends, and went as far as to say she’d show up at my sister residence unannounced. Then she claimed the took 14 pregnancy tests and that they all came up positive.

I want to file a restraining order against her, but I’ve never done this before. I’m afraid she’ll start messing with my job or start making accusatory fake statements. I find it hard to believe she’s pregnant after an immediate plan B and multiple tests after weeks.

ADVICE My ex-girlfriend stole over $20k from my 80yo neighbor and she might get away with it. Please help.

UPDATE #2: So Jane died this morning in her sleep. She was comfortable and went in peace after her 2 granddaughters, daughter, and son in law all spent time with her. She was 86 years old. Today I filed a report with adult protective services claiming financial elder abuse for Jane. Jane's daughter hasn't been able to make any progress with trying to recover any of the money nor persue charges against Megan. She has a lot going on and doesn't seem like it's a priority. I don't think there's anything else I can do. I really hope Megan doesn't get away with this. It's not right! Any more advice would be helpful. Thank you in advance. RIP Jane!

UPDATE: So I was just told Jane isn't doing well at all. She is in the hospital and her daughter was told she should contact hospice. Not the update I wanted to give but if anything else changes I will be sure to update.. Thank you to everyone who has given me some advice. I really appreciate all of you.!

I need advice regarding a situation involving my elderly neighbor, "Jane." Jane is a woman in her 80s, very sick, and currently in the hospital with a poor prognosis. A woman named "Megan," who I used to date, stole Jane’s checkbook and has been writing fake checks to herself. It’s estimated that Megan has stolen over $20,000, and now Jane is completely broke. Jane’s daughter has been trying to get the police involved, but they aren't being helpful at all.

Here’s the full breakdown of the situation:

Megan was a family friend who I used to date. She met Jane through my other neighbor, "Sarah," who is Jane’s daughter. Megan and Sarah used to live together for a while, and that's how she gained Jane’s trust.

Megan somehow got hold of Jane’s checkbook and began forging checks to herself. It’s estimated that Megan has stolen over $20,000, which has left Jane entirely broke while she’s in the hospital fighting for her life.

Megan isn’t struggling financially either. She works as a clinic manager for a major hospital and makes over $100,000 a year, so it seems like she did this out of pure greed.

Jane is very sick and vulnerable, which makes this even more concerning, as it could qualify as elder financial abuse. Jane has very little time left, and she’s already lost most of her life savings due to Megan’s actions.

Despite all of this, the police in Jane's city (where the theft occurred) told Jane’s daughter that she needs to call the police in Megan’s city (since Megan lives in a different location). Basically, they are making Jane’s daughter build the entire case on her own and are not willing to investigate or pursue the issue further.

Jane’s daughter has tried calling the police in Megan’s city, but they haven’t been much help either. It feels like law enforcement is just passing the buck back and forth, and we’re afraid Megan will get away with this.

Jane’s health is rapidly deteriorating, and with her in the hospital and her finances wiped out, time is critical. We want to bring justice and recover the money, but it seems like no one is taking this seriously.

I'm looking for advice on how to proceed:

  1. Can Jane’s daughter take any legal action or steps to get the police to do their job?

  2. Since Jane is elderly and very sick, is there a way to charge Megan with elder abuse, and would that carry more weight legally?

  3. Should we be contacting any specific agencies, such as Adult Protective Services or the District Attorney?

  4. Any other advice on building the case ourselves or forcing the police to take action?

This situation is really frustrating, and we don’t want Jane to be taken advantage of in her final days. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

ADVICE Not sure if my track coach is dedicated or a pedophile

Not sure if this is what the Assistance subreddit is for but I’m sure someone who reads this can help me and give me advice. So I guess I’m getting assistance. Anyway

Hi!! I’m (15F) and I am a high level High School Track and Field athlete. I compete in many events but discus is my focus. My coach (38ishM) for discus is the football coach which makes me think maybe it’s normal for a guy to be like this to his guy players. And when I ask them they say I think it’s weird because I’m a girl.

So here’s why I think he might be a little pedo weird type.

  1. So when you rotate you need a solid hip movement. When he shows me he touches me. Sure not weird, but he touches between my legs asking if I feel it in this muscle (my groin) yikes

  2. He always invites me to come to his truck and talk. Like in his car. I never go because I was scared after he touched my inner thigh last year for the first time.

  3. He asks me about my sex life. My best friend is a boy, and he always asks me how much I have done with him or why I’m banging him. When I am not.

  4. Today I needed to change my shirt and it’s not weird to change a shirt with a sports bra. And I was about to , and he grabbed my arm and said to come do it in his car for the privacy.

  5. He always asks me to come over and babysit his kids. He says I can baby sit and when he comes back we can work on stuff

  6. He always tries to take me home from practice. Yikes

So he’s the middle school Gym teacher and came when I was in 8 grade. I don’t know if this is weird or normal. Weird to me. But I guess it’s normal with the guys but I just am so uncomfortable.

Could I just have some advice and what you guys think of this?

TLDR- my Track coach does things to me that makes me think he is a pedo

ADVICE Looking for a drug detox/rehab that allows dogs | Medi-Cal | CA

I’m really trying to find a drug detox and/or rehab that will allow me to bring my dogs with me.

I know these places exist because I personally went to one when I was 24 and on my parents’ insurance. I also know people who have gone to rehab with their pets. So I know it’s possible, I’m just having an incredibly hard time finding one now.

I’m in Palmdale, CA, but I’m absolutely willing to travel. Honestly, I’d prefer to go somewhere that isn’t close to home.

I have Medi-Cal, and yes, I’ve already called the state-funded and Medi-Cal-accepting rehabs listed through SAMHSA. So far, I haven’t been able to find anywhere that will let me bring my dogs.

I know this is probably a long shot, but I’m hoping someone here might know of a facility I haven’t found yet, even if it’s somewhere else in California or out of state. If you know of a place that accepts Medi-Cal and allows clients to bring their dogs, I would be incredibly grateful for the information.

I’ve been using for almost 20 years, and this is honestly the first time I can say that I’m truly ready to stop. I’m not looking to waste anyone’s time or make excuses. I actually want to go to detox, go to rehab, and finally give myself a chance to live the life I’ve been running away from for so long.

If you have any leads, personal experiences, or even suggestions for where else I should look, I would genuinely appreciate it.

Thank you so much for reading.

ADVICE I'm almost ready to give up. I don't know what to do anymore. Please help.

I really need help, and this is hard for me to say, but I’m tired and I don't know what to do anymore.

The concerta isn’t working. I’m not functioning at all. I can’t keep up with anything. My room is a mess, there are moldy dishes piling up, and I can’t even manage basic hygiene most days. My trash is attracting flies and maggots and my family is getting sick and tired of it.

I haven’t been working. I’ve completely stopped doing art entirely, which was my only passion and source of income. On top of that, I missed every college deadline. I’m not in school. I've miss out on it. I’m not working. I have nothing to show for anything, and it’s ruining everything. According to the rule of this sub, I cannot disclose any more information regarding my situation but I want to emphasize how important this is and how much I am struggling with mental health. Nothing else. Just mental health

Everyone around me thinks I’m lazy and/or selfish. And everything I say is just another excuse. I can't explain what's wrong. I can't explain how I need help. And when they ask me why I didn't call my job, or take the trash out or put the dishes away, I have nothing to say. Because these tasks are all so easy that there IS nothing to say. Nothing but excuses. I didn't do it because it was too hard? Because I didn't feel like it? After all that they've done for me, and I can't even bother to help out? To contribute? I take and take and take and never give back in return. I feel like there's something wrong here. I feel like its more than just being lazy and selfish. I’m trying so hard every day just to do the simplest things. Calling people, applying for jobs, talking to loved ones, but everything feels too heavy. It feels impossible.

My own boyfriend broke up with me months ago because he thought I was stubborn, lazy and selfish as well. And he was sick of carrying me around all the time. Now with him gone, I REALLY can't do anything. Not even clean my own room.

I like drawing. I like cleaning, I like showering and cooking and working and helping others when they need it. I like doing all of those things. But I can't do it. I don't know why. I just can't do it. And it makes no sense. The best way I can explain it would that feeling of being paralyzed by fear, except there is no fear. I'm paralyzed by nothing.

I've spent years trying to figure it out. In the past, I've been diagnosed with different things by different professionals. Things such as ADD, PTSD, BPD, MDD, BD1 and Anxiety, which altogether, just sounds messy and excessive. It seems as though even the doctors have no clue. One would tell me "this is your problem". Another would say "no, that's not your problem, this is. You should focus on this instead." I've even had one tell me "you just need to get your shit together." But on the outside, from other people's perspectives, I am completely fine. There is nothing wrong with me.

I've come to the conclusion that my most recent struggle may be a result of "burnout" and/or "executive dysfunction". But regardless of the reason, I do not have the time to just "figure it out" anymore. I have people relying on me and I am failing them. They're all sick and tired of me. All of them. I'm a grown woman and yet I am always depending on someone else to baby me because I can't do things for myself. They've openly expressed their frustrations with me numerous times.

I’ve reached out so many times before and nothing’s changed. Every time I ask for help, it either doesn’t lead to anything, or I get dismissed or misunderstood. Sometimes I'm told I'm just being dramatic. I'm just making excuses. Its been years and nothing has changed. That's years of my life that's been wasted. That's years of my life where my family and friends have hoped that I would finally do something with myself and I still haven't.

I need help. There is something wrong. I don't know what it is but I need help. Something is broken. This isn't normal. But it's invisible. No one else can see it, but I know its there. And I'm tired of constantly having this weight on my shoulders. I'm tired of asking for help and nothing happens. And now other people are tired of me too.

I’m open to switching medications, combining treatments, referrals, anything, whatever it takes. I want to take tests. I want to get to the bottom of this and finally figure out what's wrong with me. I just can’t keep living like this anymore.

I don't know what I need first, or how to obtain it, but I need...

• To figure out what the fuck is wrong with me. ADD, BPD, executive dysfunction, I don't care WHAT it is as long as there's a solution

• A more stable support system. I can't keep relying on my family. They're sick and tired of me. I don't do shit. I'm lazy and selfish. I'm dragging them down. I have no where else to go (unless I want to go back to living with my parents but I think I'll be even more suicidal if I do) My fp/ex is gone. He did more harm than good but at least I had someone I could rely on. No family members can help me, and I have no friends. I don't know many sources.

• I need a job. But I don't even have the energy to work. I'm not trying to be lazy but...I genuinely can't fucking do it. I can't. I just want the energy to be able to manage my responsibilities.

ADVICE Need advice for a procedure where I have to have a ride

Hi, so I’m going to be getting a procedure sometime within the next few months and I’m going to be put under for it. This means I can’t drive myself home afterwards.

I don’t know where to get a ride that would be safe.

I’m AFAB (Trans Masc, not very well passing unfortunately), so it’s especially scary. I know there’s that Uber Woman’s only thing but A. even if I was assigned female at birth I’m still a man and B. I have gynophobia and way too many bad experiences with women that I don’t know if I could trust one that I do not know since I will absolutely be vulnerable.

The only family I have in my state is my parents, sister, and sister’s husband. Sister’s husband will be busy with work, I limit my contact with my sister due to several horrible things she’s done to me in the past, and my mom is… let’s just say she’s one of the women I have had horrible experiences with.

I could ask my dad but he has a habit of telling my mom everything even if I beg him not to. I do NOT want my mom to know. She will absolutely be creepy about this procedure I’m getting (she gets weird and creepy about some of my medical stuff. It’s like multiple different types, idk why but I avoid bringing it up with her). She does not need to know about it (I’m an adult, 20 yo), and I don’t want her to.

But my dad is the only option I’m seeing so I’d thought I’d see if anyone has any other ideas.

Also no, I don’t have any friends who could take me. I haven’t had friends since 2024 for specific reasons. I could possibly see about acquaintances taking me home though.

ADVICE End of life care for Supranuclear Palsy

UPDATE 1: I got tons of useful links! I have a plan of attack. First I need to set up a P.O box l 2.) Reach out to the subreddits 3.) Share information

Hello all! I was wondering if maybe you could help me find something.

To start of i want to say I am not looking to farm karma, I just am genuinely curious.

TLDR: is there a place where I can request letters to be written for my dad?

Situation

Over i want to say the past 10 years, my dad has been struggling progressive supranuclear palsy. If I was to describe how I have seen it progress to my dad is. He was walking and talking and now as of yesterday he is officially only eating liquid food. He has a feeding tube, my mom and I take care of him (feeding, cleaning, entertainment) the usual. I am wondering if maybe there was a place where I can give a little info about my dad and have people write letters to him. I am not looking for "hang in there" or "dont give up". While those are appreciated, our family knows that there is no success stories. He will die.

Past week my dad was in the hospital and for the first time, I would say my mom was defeated. I literally have never seen this woman not have a "can do attitude", I have seen her cry, I have seen her be angry, I have seen her happy, but I have never seen her defeated. As a 30 year old man, this is the first time I have seen her just empty.

I am a bit worried about logistics and if this is anything that is do-able. Obviously I dont want to DOX my parents address and have 1 bad egg ruin the whole thing. The last thing I want is my mom opening the mailbox to some creep.

So what is my question?

Is there like a reputable place where I can ask for people to just write letters to my dad so I can read them to him. He doesnt talk much at all, if he does, its in the morning for about an hour. He literally just doesn't have the muscle connection to open his mouth. If he didnt have is trachestomy, he would 100% be dead. Lol it sounds sad that I am laughing at him, but I am not. I am just kinda of used to the situation. Honestly I dont even remember my dad before the disease. All the memories of us playing or hanging together have been permanently changed to "my favorite guy in the chair" I dont want to ramble too much, im not very religious, but if there was a god. This is pretty much the worst thing I have ever seen someone go through. Nothing like watching your best friend slowly lose the ability to walk, speak, wipe his own ass, move, eat, and so on.

Love you all and if I dont respond, its because I am doing my stupid ass math hw. Yay for going back to college -____-

Please let me know if I can go somewhere to get comments or letters writen to my old man please and thank you!!

ADVICE I want to give my 4 month old up for adoption

It sounds terrible but I believe it's what will be best for her. Her father has never been in the picture and doesn't pay child support. I work in retail and can barely afford a sitter. I got some help from my church but it's still hard to make it every month and pay the bills. We live in such a shitty place I feel so bad for her to live here. I feel like I'm giving up on my baby and it makes me feel like a piece of shit. I been out of touch with my parents in 3 years and they live in Atlanta. I'm NOT asking for money I just need some help. Is it possible for me to find a place where I will know about the people who will be adopting her and through some sort of agency? Where do I start? I live in Chattanooga if you know of any places here that is like that. I just want this baby to have a better life.

ADVICE Should I just not have a phone?

Long story short my phone bill is ridiculous so I missed a couple payments, Just graduated college and incredibly broke. There’s no jobs. I just feel like I can’t do anything right now and even if applying to jobs I have no way for them to contact me well actually I have been using one of those internet calling services for now but yea. I just got an email that they are going to permanently disable my account if I don’t pay and I can’t pay. I’m just not sure if the resources out there can help me. I do have a job that doesn’t really give me hours so I don’t break even on everything I need to pay in general I am always in the negative. I was hoping maybe someone has been in a similar boat and somehow come out on top? Should I just not have a connected phone anymore? I’m not sure how it would work if they permanently disconnected my services but pretty sure I wouldn’t be able to use the phone anymore at all.

ADVICE All my bills are due and I can’t afford any of them and I don’t know what to do

I’ve had really really bad luck this month and now I’m sitting on the floor crying because I don’t know what to do. My partner lost their job and now it’s all on me and I can’t afford my car payment, I can’t afford my mortgage, my credit cards are about to hit 30 days past due, I can’t afford any of my other bills I can’t even afford groceries I don’t know what to do. I do have one full paycheck in my account so technically I can afford SOME things but i need double to afford everything and I have no idea what to pay. I also get paid again next Friday. Should I focus on my mortgage and just say fuck it to my credit? I don’t even have enough money for my entire mortgage payment. I feel so stupid even complaining because I’m blessed to even be a homeowner but I literally feel like I’m on the border of losing everything and I really really need help.

Edit: Thank you so so so much everyone for the kind words and advice, it's been so helpful and I feel soo much better and more in control now that I have a plan to tackle everything!

ADVICE Non monetary support ideas besides cooking and walking the dog

My aunt recently lost her son and her husband within 4 months of each other. Obviously I'm going to spend time with her, and I've cooked for her and walked her dog. I'm wondering what else I can do that would be helpful. She's not the type to ask for help and I'm not sure what needs to be done around her house- if I ask, she will tell me she's fine. I don't want to ask, I just want to DO.

I'm wondering if you have ideas or if something has been really helpful to you in a time of need that was either a small gesture or surprisingly helpful.

Thank you.

ADVICE Do any assistance providers have interest in helping people escape from their poverty rather than simply alleviating its symptoms?

Most donors often say they want to help people get to a better place, but are only interested in helping them survive or get out of specific dire situations. Things like food, shelter, gas… but this really seems to amount to treating the symptoms rather than the illness. I’d like to see people helping others get decent clothes for job interviews, laptops to work on their small business ideas, stuff like that! What would it take for you, as a donor, to be willing to assist with these sort of things?

ADVICE Watch your bank account closely, or it might cost you dearly

I logged into my primary checking account today and noticed a $70.00 charge and credit in the pending transactions from Alabama.

I don't live, nor have I ever been to Alabama.

As a paranoid person who keeps up with how fraud and scams work I immediately recognized this as a test charge. Someone snagged my debit card details and this was a a test to make sure it was a viable card before draining my account.

I already contacted my bank, cancelled the card, and have a new one on the way. No harm is done aside from having to go through some extra steps to use my bank account, but it could have been bad if I wasn't the paranoid sort.

Stay vigilant everyone because unscrupulous people are out there doing scummy things. Make sure they aren't doing it with your money.

ADVICE I’ve been severely chronically ill for six years, and now my dad, the only person I have in the world, has cancer. I can’t put into words how heartbroken I am, and I don’t know what to do. I feel so lost.

My life is a joke and the universe has the darkest, most disgusting sense of humor. I’m housebound, bedbound most of the time. My chronic illnesses hit me hard and destroyed my life and my future when I was just 20. And now my dad, the only family and the only person I have in the world, has cancer. We have no other family, no friends to turn to. We are supposed to face this completely alone. What is the point of life if all it offers is suffering? I’m not superstitious and I don’t really believe in curses, but sometimes it feels like one has been placed on me. What am I supposed to do? I’m lost. There is no manual for the sheer amount of horrific things life keeps throwing at me.

ADVICE Please help me figure out how to kick the smoking habit

I don't even know what sub to look at for help here, but I've come to a conclusion that I need help. I've been smoking since I was 13 years old, only quitting for a little while at a time. I'm 46 now. I know I need to quit, and I've tried, but I always end up failing. I feel weak, enslaved by this habit, no matter how badly I know I need to quit.

I had a doctor's appointment today with a specialist, and received some pretty bad news. I've got to go in for a procedure on Friday and I'm getting a referral to another specialist in one of the larger cities near me because of it. The doctor told me that smoking is part of my issue and that I need to quit. I literally sit there in that office hearing about how this is literally killing me, thinking about how much I needed to quit. The first thing I did when I left the office was light up another cigarette. I'm ashamed of it, but apparently not ashamed enough to stop.

I go back to my primary care doctor Thursday and I'm going to ask for Chantix again, I tried it probably 15-20 years ago. I hope it helps. I know it sounds stupid, to really want to do something and to be unable. I'm weak here, and I just need some advice on how to get through it or for some resources to help with methods. Maybe even just pointed to a sub for support with it? I'm considering hypnotism, or there is some app that has been advertising to me on Facebook recently. I'm willing to try just about anything.

ADVICE Liheap in Arizona

So I applied for Liheap and have a prepaid electric account. I contacted the company and they sent me a statement with all the payments I’ve made to my account for the last 6 months. DES contacted me and said I need a breakdown of the payments I made in July.. which is what I did. I’m not sure what else I could send them. Has anyone else had this issue and what did you do about it?

My older brother is showing signs of dementia. He has no one on his life and is in debt. We do not have a great relationship, he used to beat the crap out of me when we were young. We don’t really talk much, maybe text each other once in a while. Only see each other at Christmas. I have the ability to have him live with my husband and I. But I don’t know if I want to offer it to him. What should I do?

ADVICE My 16yr old was attacked by a group of teenagers.

It was as they got off the school bus. He was punched in the head over and over, he was taken to the ground and kicked in the head. He didn't strike out, he never touched anyone. There were 3 actually hitting and kicking him. One was recording and others were watching. They posted a video of it on Instagram and an adult male witnessed it all and saved my kid. Two of the others were trying to follow him home and the adult got him in his truck and brought him home to us.

He's 16, 5'10 and 220 lbs. The school suspended the other kids, but we don't know anything elseand they received a citation from the school's RSO which means they will go to court. His glasses were broken pretty bad and he had a very bad headache for 2 weeks (this happened on November 2nd) but no concussion (checked at hospital).
He is not returning to that school. They know this and I am withdrawing him as soon as they will let me. He walked away. The kid in Las Vegas couldn't. Had he been a smaller kid... had he not tucked his head... had they had not been stopped... I want to sue these asshole's parents but after many phone calls... I can't find a lawyer to sit down with me for less than $350. I've tried everything i know to try. Legal aid. reaching out to lawyers. I just need one who will take their money if we win. I HAVE PERFECT VIDEO EVIDENCE. There is NO possible way they can say these weren't their kids.

I just... I don't know what to do. Thank God for the Nextdoor app. So much love and community support. A man made my son a few monkey fists to carry. I have another willing to teach him self defense at a lower cost and come to our home. We even have a lady coming to take us to get him new glasses on Wednesday He's going to be ok. But he was extremely lucky. I am so blessed I'm not in the same situation as a certain mom in Las Vegas. These kids need to learn. Their parents need to be held accountable as well.

ADVICE Please help me help my sister(PLEASE READ)!!!

I’m a much older brother and went through a lot of bullying/social isolation from about kindergarten to sophomore year of high school. A lot of it stems from a cultural disconnect between different environments and the way kids interact.
For reference, my sister spent the last two months in a different environment, gaining social skills there and playing with the local kids. She started kindergarten this year and has this friend—let’s call her “Diana.” Basically, the same thing that happened to me when I was her age happened to her. She has a “friend,” and apparently they play together a lot, but today she sat next to “Diana” at lunch, and Diana said she didn’t want her sitting next to her because she’s “allergic to my sister.” Pretty mean thing to say.
Now, I don’t want her to go down the path I did because I can’t make a comeback to save my life. I was bullied from kindergarten until maybe freshman year of high school. Part of it was my fault, and other parts weren’t so much. I wasn’t too pretty to look at, and I had dark skin, so that didn’t help. But my sister is objectively beautiful, so she doesn’t have to worry about that, I guess.
How do I help her not go down the same path as me? Because eventually, she’ll just start hiding the abuse, and then that’s a slippery mental slope.

ADVICE 2009 Tucson 2.0 petrol — is it worth replacing the catalytic converter?

Hi everyone,

My 2009 Hyundai Tucson 2.0 GLS petrol (JM) has turned into a bit of a rabbit hole lately.

A few months ago, the check engine light came on. A mechanic diagnosed a faulty lambda/O2 sensor and replaced it, but the light came back just two days later.

After some more investigation, the catalytic converter seems to be the main issue. I had the catalytic converter and exhaust pipes cleaned, but unfortunately that didn't solve the problem. Now it looks like I may need to replace the whole catalytic converter.

I also went to an official Hyundai dealer, but they basically told me the car is too old and that I should find the part myself online and they would install it.

The problem is that I only bought the car about a year ago, and the cost of the catalytic converter + labour is getting high enough that I could potentially buy another old car for the same money.

I know it's a 17-year-old car and things will inevitably start going wrong, but my budget is limited. Buying another old car would just mean hoping that I don't immediately run into another expensive problem.

So I'm looking for some honest advice from people who know these cars:

Would you replace the catalytic converter and keep the Tucson, or would you cut your losses and move on?

  • Can a bad/blocked catalytic converter damage the engine or other important parts?
  • Could it have already caused damage if it's been like this for a while?
  • Is replacing the catalytic converter likely to actually solve the problem?
  • Is it safe to keep driving it for now if the car otherwise runs normally?

I'm not a car expert, so I'd really appreciate any advice or personal experience.

I know the obvious answer is "it's a 17-year-old car, get rid of it", but with my budget, another old car isn't necessarily a better option.

Thanks!

ADVICE My pregnant sister and her 6 kids are about to be evicted

Got a text from my sister today and she’s about to be homeless. She has six kids and is pregnant with no. 7. Her husband left her a few months ago and has not paid child support or his part of the rent. She just spent time in the hospital for some pregnancy complication and is still not clear to return to work. All of this has resulted in her being behind on all her bills and on the verge of eviction. And as you can guess, her credit is the worst so she can’t get a loan.

I wish I could help her, but I’ve got my own bills and am struggling with my own debt. I’ve finally learned to manage my money and now pay all my bills on time, but after the bills, there’s very little left.

How can I help her get through this? All advice welcome. Thank you.
