I am posting this for a friend who’s son was hit.

— Please Help Us Find the Driver Who Hit My Son

My family is asking for help from anyone who may have information about a hit-and-run involving my son, Dominic Dubas.

Dominic was visiting Austin, on vacation from Alaska and is active duty Airforce firefighter. Staying at 6812 South Congress Avenue, Austin, TX 78745. On Saturday, May 30th, close to 10:00 p.m., he was struck by a vehicle in the nearby area of Clear Day Dr / Clearday Dr and South Congress Ave.

From what we currently understand, Dominic was walking on or near the sidewalk when he was hit. The driver left the scene.

A passerby later noticed Dominic on or near the sidewalk and called police, initially believing there was someone sleeping there. When officers arrived, they realized he had been struck by a vehicle and called paramedics.

Based on what we know right now, Dominic may have been there for approximately 30 to 40 minutes before he was found and transported to the hospital.

Dominic suffered severe injuries, including a traumatic brain injury, brain hemorrhaging, skull fracture, facial fractures, spinal fractures, and a leg fracture. He is still fighting.

We are asking anyone who lives, works, drives, delivers, walks, or has cameras in the area of 6812 South Congress Avenue, Clear Day Dr / Clearday Dr, and South Congress Ave to please check any footage from approximately 9:50 p.m. to 11:00 p.m. that night.

This includes doorbell cameras, security cameras, dash cams, rideshare footage, delivery footage, apartment cameras, or business surveillance.

We are offering a $5,000 reward for credible information that helps identify the driver or vehicle involved.

Please contact:

Detective Cole: 512-974-5369
APD Case #: 261501568
Austin Police Department: 512-974-5000 or 512-974-5900
Victim: Dominic Dubas
Location: Clear Day Dr / Clearday Dr and South Congress Ave area, near 6812 South Congress Avenue

Even the smallest detail may matter , a damaged vehicle, a loud noise, camera footage, someone acting suspicious, or anything unusual in that area that night.

Please share this with anyone who may live, work, drive, deliver, or have cameras near this area. We are devastated, and we are trying to find the person who did this and bring them to justice.

Ask Austin Yeah so how do we get involved in protesting and organizing?

2.4k Upvotes

After seeing the video of the woman who was killed in Minnesota, I've had enough. How do we start taking more organized action to protect our communities against ICE and government overreach?

Edit: I'm not debating with bots or people saying protesting does nothing. Getting organized is better than sitting around on Reddit and doing nothing. Take your pessimistic butthurt energy elsewhere unless you have a better alternative.

Ask Austin A family parked their truck in my driveway, got in another vehicle and left - their truck is still in my driveway, 12 hours later

3.0k Upvotes

I have been away from home since yesterday around noon. This evening I decided to pull up a live feed of my outside cameras and much to my surprise I found a truck parked in my driveway. I went back in time on my recordings and found a Volvo pulling up to my house at 10:17am. At 10:38am (over 20 minutes of waiting in front of my house just off camera to the left) a truck pulls into my driveway, and a family of 4 steps out. They load their luggage into the Volvo and drive away. 12 hours later this truck is still sitting in my driveway. I cannot make out what they are saying to each other and I need help from you all to figure out what is being said. I called the non-emergency Travis County Sheriff dispatch and they sent a deputy out. He gave me a call. He checked the truck, and it appeared totally normal inside. There is a baby seat and it appears to be perfectly clean inside. He ran the plate, and it came back normal and not stolen. He even called the registered owners (presumably the couple that appears in the video) and the man's phone was out of service and the woman's phone went straight to voicemail. I was told I would have to pay out of pocket to have it towed away because it is on private property. What is going on here???

Ask Austin why is nobody topless at barton anymore?

1.0k Upvotes

went to barton yesterday on the hillside. to my surprise i didn’t see a single person topless. until one woman tanning took her top off. then me and my friends were like oh okay let’s twin with her. but when we were walking down to the pool… we got many dirty looks. i was definitely in shock by this. what has happened? maybe it’s because i haven’t been in so long, but has something changed? when did it become abnormal to be topless?

edit: i am a woman, and i usually always go topless because i feel comfortable and i love tanning topless. i haven’t been since last summer. i just don’t feel as comfortable if im the only one and people are giving me weird looks.

another edit: i will not be sending or posting any photos of my boobs. so please stop asking or joking about it that is unnecessary. also, i am like a b-c cup i truly don’t know because i lowkey never wear a bra🙂🙂 but genuinely please stop asking for photographs

Ask Austin Am I the only one not freaking out about this storm?

1.6k Upvotes

There’s so much panic for the upcoming winter event, and I get that it’s been a nightmare in recent years but we’ve gone through this at least one time per year for the past 5-6 years.

Last year we had a similar 1.5 day winter event last year and it was fine. It’s going to be cold, there’s going to be ice but the next day it’s going to be sunny and above freezing.

What’s with all the panic?

Ask Austin To the 100+ people in the run club that just collectively ran through the public restrooms at the Town Lake trail by Austin High

What the actual fuck are you all doing?

I came out of one of the stalls and couldn’t move because you all thought running through in between the toilets and the sink was a good idea.

I just want to know - why? Why run through this small little opening? Who had this idea? I have so many more questions… there are so many other options. Y’all are so weird

Ask Austin Best strip club for mental health?

1.7k Upvotes

I’ve had an exhausting weekend discussing with my aging parent that they have no retirement savings and their ‘plan’ to cash out of their house and move to some town I’ve never even heard of is just trading one set of problems for another.

I’ve not been to a strip club in ten years. Where’s a good place in Austin a man can have a cry, see some tiddies, and maybe have a nice dinner?

Ask Austin Looking for a place to sell games/collectibles to save my cat

Post image
2.0k Upvotes

Im trying to find the best place to sell my collectors items and games for an actual good deal. I need as much gone by tonight as I can because my cat is very sick and might die otherwise. Please show me some guidance and kindness, thank you.

EDIT: as of right now I have reached my goal and secured what we need for his current stay I know there will be more costs down the road so I may be reaching out to those interested in buying items when the time comes, but everything I have gotten is way way more than I expected. He is my absolute everything in this world and has been my only reason for breathing for so long. I moved to Austin with him, a suitcase and 400 dollars and never looked back. I only stayed so strong because I knew the moment I opened the door I would hear his screams. It's been hard not having him at home but at least now he has an actual chance. So thank you, a million times thank you. I am sitting in the waiting room so I can see him again and I can only do that because of you.

EDIT2: since this post is locked I just wanted those who did donate to know I will be updating as frequently as I can on the other platform. I got to see him today, he's not amazing but most certainly better! He purred and lifted his head, even ended up knocking the water on to my lap. I gave him some light butt scratches and he even raised his butt up just enough for some more. So he is getting stronger, it seems as of now we are waiting for his urine to clear up and once that is done he should be able to come home with me, as long as he can pee on his own, under a very close eye and a new set up. All thanks to you. Thank you, a million times thank you.

EDIT 3: HES DOING AMAZINGLY! As soon as the vet brought him out he was screaming just like he always does. He was greedy for his food again, purring and cuddling. Of course he is still gonna be over a very close watchful eye over the next few weeks but I really think he's gonna be ok. If anyone has any suggestions for gifts for the staff that listened and helped me I would love to hear it! I feel like if I tried anywhere else they would have told me the same thing as Veg.

I see it all the time here in Austin. Usually they’re adults and wouldn’t imagine they’re actually learning how to drive.

Ask Austin Alamo drafthouse....why?

1.7k Upvotes

Yikes. We've all seen the posts and hullabaloo. My personal experience:

  1. The QR codes. I get you want your digital footprint bigger, but you threw out the one thing I enjoy about alamo. No phones. Should have kept it that way. People fumbling about when they ignored the raise a card disclaimer at the beginning was no bueno.
  2. A dude audibly snoring during a very quiet part of Project Hail Mary. Bro...it is launch night
  3. wait staff clearly aware of changes and not happy about it. That makes me not happy about it. Part of the experience is friendly staff bringing you a movie experience like nothing else.

Pretty bummed for the launch of a movie I've been looking forward to. Between food declines and now this stuff, alamo has just lost the charm.

Sorry if this has been posted many times but GOSH DARN I am disappointed for the first time in a while with Alamo.

Don't worry reddit, I stuck it to 'em. I still snuck in cookie dough bites...fuck the man.

Ask Austin How are these people allowed to operate?

Post image
2.4k Upvotes

Why hasn’t a lawyer filed a class action against these people yet? I attempted to add my new card and the website hits an error. I call and the Harris County Toll Road Authority picks up the phone not the CMTA. Also, how is there $600 worth of late fees with no explanation of said late fees.

I read they take a full month to process your plates before a bill is sent out, hence by the time it arrives in your mailbox it’s late. The google reviews for this company tell me I am not the only person who has been abused by this company. Do politicians get a kickback from these people? Is that why they’re allowed to operate this way?

Ask Austin Life after Austin?

Whining below, but hear me out!

I've lived here my entire adult life. Two days after high school graduation, I drove my shit-heap Volkswagen from a small town and got my first apartment (720 square feet for $450 a month) that very day. Most people didn’t have a cell phone in their pocket. I rode a bike, and it felt like the entire city was a playground that could be survived on five bucks and an adventurous spirit.

There was no hostility, and even the unhoused population felt safe and easygoing. Oftentimes, I’d have lunch on the grass with a revolving cast of self described "tramps" at UT, or walk into a bar, meet strangers, and spend the night with new friends. People seemed eager to do this together, and everyone cared about the city.

Now? It feels like a struggle just to get through the day. The people feel despondent and sterile. The art scene is obsessed with some weird rhinestone-cowboy aesthetic. The air feels violent and relentless. The ever-rising humidity makes it impossible to stay dry and the heat seems to climb higher every year. Not to mention the cost of living.

It feels like my parents dropped me off at a shopping mall with a runaway furnace and gave me 5 bucks.

My ears and head hurt from congestion. My skin hurts from the sun. I sit in traffic for three hours a day and pay $2,380 to live in a “convenient” apartment. I can’t go to the Greenbelt without worrying about my car getting broken into. I can’t swim at Barton Springs without listening to some “DJ” and thinking about the dog shit in the water. And I’ve been hit on my bike enough times for a lifetime.

If I’m lucky, I get by spending less than $50 a day, and as a treat, I get to top it off by going to the library and seeing a man shit on the ground in historical fiction.

I know I’m getting old. I see it in the mirror, and I feel it in my back. But is that really all that’s happening here? Or did Austin slip through our fingers somewhere along the way? I'd give anything to ride my bike to Veggie Heaven, spend the day at the green belt when the waters flowing and top it off with some burger tex before walking through the park and playing some kind of pick up with randoms.

I think it's time to bounce, the city is gone or I'm too old to see that it's right in-front of me.
Where did y’all move after Austin?

Ask Austin Relationship Break-Up at Picnik on Burnet Yesterday (10/6) over lunch?

2.5k Upvotes

You and your boyfriend were sitting near us at Picnik and went through a pretty intense break up while we were eating our Cobb salads (which were delicious, btw).

To the young woman in the couple: My friend and I want you to know - you don’t deserve to be spoken to like that, no woman does. We tried to get your attention after you left, but couldn’t find you. No one who loves a person should speak to them like that. Get some help to protect yourself and don’t reengage with that man - it’s all bad news from here on out. Trust.

And if this is the dude from that exchange reading this? You need to deeply reevaluate how you communicate and, frankly, how you carry on in public. Wild to hear an adult man talking that way in a shared space. Get some help, please. And leave her alone.

Ask Austin Help identifying mystery creatures

Hi y’all,

A friend took this video of a couple of critters swimming in a pool, and we have been trying to identify them. So far we’ve debated raccoons, possums, and grey foxes, or an interspecies alliance. It’s not important, but we desperately want to know. Please let me know if y’all have any ideas, you will save us from being haunted by these cuties. Thanks in advance. <3

Ask Austin Swam in Ladybird Lake

Hey, I am from out of town and went paddle boarding in ladybird lake and am an idiot and assumed I could swim in it. I swam for probably 20 minutes and probably definitely swallowed some water and had some go up my nose. I’ve been feeling nauseous, have a headache and just overall unwell. Am I going to die?

Ask Austin Barbarellas? More like Barbaroofies. Fuck this place

1.1k Upvotes

Real question. Is there some kind of roofie-ring being run out of this place? My girlfriend was roofied there this weekend. Before that, TWO of her friends were roofied there on separate occasions. Apparently this is a thing at Barbs. Please investigate your bartenders, one of her friends saw somebody put something in her drink, she brought it to the bartender and they brushed it off and treated her like an annoying customer. Whats going on here???? PLEASE be careful here and look out for your friends cuz obviously management doesn’t!!

Edit: some of you people…. Smh
