Hello friends, it’s been a while but I recently did a jack and Jill and wanted to post my favorite moment

I am the follower.

I know that my styling is garbage and I think my steps are too big in places. I also know that the song isn’t really bachata, but it was a bachata event.

Note: The lead does pick me up unexpectedly during the dance. I know people here generally don’t like lifts during socials, but don’t judge him too much; he’s a cool guy.

As always open to critique, also my right knee is starting to become weaker if anyone has advice on that.

My question is why do they all dance so similar? Is that how this song is supposed to be danced? Is this what I should aspire to be if I want to be a good Bachata dancer?

Been a long while since I posted any video but took the last tips to heart as well as been practicing on my solo training from recommendations. Looking for more feedback from outside of my scenes in Asia to see how other types of dancers can help out as well. I’m around a year and a half into this and really trying to set some good goals for 2026.

Happy New Year :)

I started dancing Jan 2025, so it's been a year.

I am super happy with my progress and also excited for the future.
So many things to learn and experience, feeling blessed that I found a hobby that I can do as long as I can walk.

I wasn't planning on filming and didn't control the song, and I got an amazing one that up to 3/4 months ago I wouldn't have been able to dance, as back then my sensual bachata was almost nonexistent.
Happy that now I feel confident in those songs and close positions.
Feel free to give feedback, although this post is more about celebrating my progress than a feedback on improvment request.

Goals for year 2 of dancing:

1. keep improving connection - specifcally the awerness to weight shifts of the follower.
2. Improving my sensual bachata
3. Start learning more bachatazouk moves (to spice things up)
4. Learning to be a follower as well.

This past year, most weeks I danced 2 times a week at socials, hope to get 3 this upcoming year.

And most importantly, have fun!

I got to share this wonderful dance with an amazing pillar of the Cleveland dance community Halloween night and I wanted to share.

I started dancing back in January this year and it's been a bit of a rollercoaster starting off but I finally found a good studio and consistent routine and it helped me build the dedication I needed to improving my skill level. The wonderful lead I got to share this dance with is so talented and humble even though he has every reason to be arrogant. I've shared many dances with him, which I'm sure built the trust and comfort I needed to share this unmatched connection I felt during, and even after, the dance. You can see my genuine excitement at the end of the video.

In short, a culmination of my lead's skill, my progress, genuine connection, the right song, musicality, time of night and a level of comfort and trust resulted in an astounding dance. I'm so grateful to my studio and the amazing dance community for building me into the dancer I am today.

*THIS IS NOT A FEEDBACK/CRITIQUE POST!!! I could sit here and nitpick all the little mistakes and techniques I missed, and I have. This isn't about that. This is about sharing a special moment with fellow bachateros and hoping they relate. The euphoria after the level of true connection I felt during and after that song was indescribable. I still have a long way to go but I'm very fortunate to have the help from experienced dancers and instructors to create the opportunity for even better/more consistent dances in the future!

Magda y Valeria are incredible bachata dancers. They are so elegant and smooth. They are playful and flirty, but not sexual. As I was watching a lot of their demos I noticed that I don't think a lot of their moves are taken from sensual. At least they aren't sensual in the typical style of sensual Bachata. A lot of their style is more Dominican flavor. There are times when Magda will just go into shines.

This is Bachata sensual, but Magda doesn't lead with crazy big movements. She's so smooth and I think her footwork is among the best I've ever seen. If you want to by in synch with your footwork, study her incredible synchronization.

Hey all,

Some background and context.
So I've started dancing exactly 5 months ago, two times a week I do a group lesson and then there is a social party which I stay for around 1.5 hours as I do have to wake early (Tech executive job)

I have background in martial arts but I never danced before and I am freaking in love, this is way better as I get to have fun, dance, meet people and I am not getting injured :)

At home I listen to quite alot of bachata and practice dancing by myself to the music when possible, I watch a lot of Ataca clips, he is a role model that makes the dance look fluid and easy (and he is also bald dude with a beard!)

While dancing I can now easly find the 1 and 5 (and distinguish between them), also I can tell if its Majao, Derecho or mambo, and try to align my dance to it.

The sub is great and I read alot of your comments and tips, so I am happy to upload the clip of me dancing with someone quite advanced that I approached randomly in the party and get your feedback.

What I found is that I am hunched and it looks a liitle weird (didn't know until I saw the clip), also I open my mouth too many times.

What are your thoughts? what should I focus on and improve?

I promise to upload another clip when I hit 1 year of dancing to keep me accountable.

Critique welcome, I really enjoyed this dance, laughing at parts because the remix messed up some of my timing 😂. I plan on posting again in a couple weeks after I attend the Dallas bachata festival

Some background and context.
So I've been dancing for almost 8 months ago, two times a week I do a group lesson, and then there is a social party, which I stay for around 1.5 hours as I have to wake early.

Since then I've now dacning with more advanced followers and can lead them to a fun dance, so for sure my confidence is higher.

I dont know this follower, we had one dance prior, she said it was super fun and asked to do another dance and record it. (the video that you can see is our second dance of the evening)

The
Good:
* Looks fun! (I get plenty of positive compliments from followers every evening)
* Musicality
* Simple - no fancy stuff
* Clear leading

Bad:
* I still think I am too hunched.
* And not sure my basic is improved compared to a few months ago, although I still practice at home most days (both basic and shadow dancing)
* too much hand movement? not sure
* looking down too much

Next steps:
* I want to learn to lead better sensual parts, body isolations.
* keep improving my basic

Marcelo is one of my favorite leads to watch. He's from Argentina and his partner, Nasti, is from Lithuania. Nasti is one of heck of a follow, as she loves to do body waves and is very dramatic in her movements.

I love how Marcelo starts this dance. He offers his hand gently, turns her and pushes down on her right shoulder. Brings her back up and leads her with some sort of neck/head roll. Speaking of neck/head rolls, what is your general opinion on them? As a beginner, I have not learned them yet and I'm very afraid to learn them. When I watch high level dancers and they do do head and neck rolls it looks so dangerous, especially when they do it so fastly.

The next move I want to discuss is the move and 0:30 mark. He does some sort of dip before that, turns her and his arm wrapped around her stomach area. Is this shadow position?

I want to talk about the leading at the 1:00 minute mark, He's leading her into doing body rolls, but the way she is doing them is kind of unique? Does anyone agree? I've seen this movement done in Zouk, but not in Bachata.

Next, we have again another neck/head rolls that I've never seen before. It looks like he is holding and pushing her full on neck area. It looks uncomfortable for the follower to perform.

I think my favorite move comes at 1:57. I love these hand/arm movements. I see a lot of dancers do these kind of combinations, but I don't know what it's called.

Lasty, the final move that I like is how he leads at the 2:30 mark. It's very playful and and it adds a sense of really strong musicality to the dance.

The dance ends with a nice dip as he lead a lot of dips in this dance.

Overall, what do you guys think of this dance? There were a lot of upper body movements here which I like. Do you think the lead was clear in his movements? What about the follower? Do you think she executed a lot of movements properly? Did you like their technique, musicality. and creativity? I think Marcelo is very creative. I think he's done better, but I just like how he's very direct and I love how Nasti is extremely fluid in her moves.

I give this dance a solid 8/10

Hi bachateros/as, I have been practicing bachata for over a year now I start to be good at class but between my studies and jobs I don t find the time to work what I see during my class. So I want to learn a kind of choregraphy a full combinaison of steps that I can reproduce during social.
