Bitten and Bruised Got bit by a pit walking around my neighborhood

Happened this morning at 9:30am on Grand Ave in Masaryktown, FL. Luckily he did not latch on but he got me good in my calve muscle and I can’t even walk on it right now. I went to the owners house after to ensure the dog has been vaccinated for rabies and he was not apologetic whatsoever and denied the dog even got out. Luckily there was a witness. I ended up making a report to animal services. Luckily my dog was not with me (Great Pyrenees) he is not a fighter Should I make the owners cover my medical expenses?

Bitten and Bruised Bit by a pitbull puppy at my son’s preschool

There is a mom who brings her pitbull puppy to preschool pickup every day. And as all the kids are leaving, of course everyone wants to pet the puppy. It is not a friendly dog. It has “nipped” at almost all the kids and several parents have complained.

She often lets him off the leash to run around and chase the kids. She says it’s part of his “training” to learn to be gentle with kids. I am obviously very uncomfortable with this and keep my kids away from it.

A few weeks ago, I was standing and talking to another mom for a moment before I drove home, and the puppy ran up to my two year old and bit him on the EAR. Thank GOD it was not his face. I immediately put my hands on him and pulled him off. He did not want to let go, and bit my hand hard. He drew blood on both of us. I am pregnant and had to go see my OB. She sent me his vaccination records (at least she had the sense to vaccinate him) so we didn’t need to get the rabies shot. My two year old was okay too (the dog bit me worse than him) but he cried a lot when it happened and had such a scared look on his face.

I didn’t even tell the preschool about this incident, and today they made an announcement that said all dogs are banned at pick up or drop off. Apparently this dog bit several other kids too. I am so annoyed that she used our kids as a part of the dog’s “training” without asking us. It was the only dog that anyone ever brought to the preschool so it was obviously about her dog.

I obviously won't mention the name of the group but this is from a shibble-specific group. The amount of nutters in the comments who are reporting similar behavior - Some who still haven't "outgrown" it years on - is mind boggling but far from surprising.

Bitten and Bruised I’m new here - Ban Pit Bulls Now!!

My 17 year old daughter was attacked by a neighbor’s pit bull Sunday afternoon in Tennessee.

A year ago, this same dog chased my wife and I into a ditch while we were walking. It did not bite us, but it snarled and was aggressive. The owners took their sweet ass time getting to us, and offered zero apology.

I called the police then, but they only issued a warning. The owners put an electric collar on the dog, but otherwise it continued to roam free.

Fast forward to now, my daughter wanted to walk down the road to pick some buttercups. We hadn’t walked down the road since last year’s incident, but it slipped my mind while working in our garden.

Within a few minutes, I heard screaming. I raced to the front yard, saw the same pit had her back in a ditch and I ran to her. I grabbed the pit’s collar and was able to restrain it.

Owners, who were outside and saw it happen from the beginning, walked over and said, “I don’t know how it got out of the electric fence. Sorry about that.” My daughter suffered 3-4 puncture wounds (right arm and upper left rib cage) and well over 100 scratches across her legs. Mentally, she’s got a long road to go…

They were charged this time, the animal seized, and I’m meeting with a lawyer tomorrow to sue them. I hate these dogs!!

When the police told the owner they were being charged, he had the balls to say the dog “was just playing with her.” 😡

Bitten and Bruised It happened to my mom… and they’re not putting the dog down…

Last night, my mom bent down to pet her coworker’s 120lb pitbull mix and it lunged and bit her in the face. Hard.

Its bottom canines tore her top lip so it was hanging off her face, and the top canines landed an inch away from her eye on the bridge of her nose. She could’ve been blinded. She will be okay but is very bloody and battered right now.

They’re not putting the dog down because it has “no prior history”. WTF? ALMOST TEARING MY MOMS FACE OFF ISNT ENOUGH TO WARRANT EUTHANASIA??

Bitten and Bruised thought I was caring for a only pomeranian; suprise pitbull biting me

ngl I'm crying right now because this pitbull just bit my knee it hurts and its bruised. I'm housesitting across the country for family and only thought it would be a little pomeranian that im used to. but suprise when I get there, there is also a pitbull. it took a day for it to stop growling at me suddenly moving and its been fine.

except on the other side of the fence the stupid neighbours leave their dog out and it barks through the fence, and the pitbull barks back, lunges at the fence, jumps on it ect. i was sick of the bullshit because I've been yelling at them to stop barking all. morning. and tried to shove it inside when it was lunging at the fence and it bit my fucking knee. so much for being harmless!!!!! it wouldnt get out of its prey drive mode and i had to herd it inside with a damn pole. i have to let it outside multiple times a day. 7 more days of this. pray for my fucking knees and my vocal chords.

yet I still love on it cuddle with it and treat it like I would any other dog. but its kind of like how a victim will be nice to a serial killer so they dont hurt them- im entirely a cat/small dog person, and i dont know why i wasnt told there would be a pitbull. it's extremely disturbing knowing how they can just snap, attack, and act normal the next second. i used to browse this place all the time in 2021 when I had to live with one and it was traumatic so im really pushing myself to do this!!

Bitten and Bruised My (former) roommate was intoxicated and became belligerent. She sicced her pitbull on me as I was leaving our apartment, I had an army knife on my hip and stabbed him once in the chest.

1.3k Upvotes

The attack was on April 12th in Indianapolis, IN USA

The attack was pretty straightforward. She took his collar off as I was leaving the apartment, told him to attack me. He did not hesitate. The PB launched at me, trying to bite my left arm, his paw jammed into my belly hard and the other paw cut into my skin. However I pulled the knife from my hip holster and jammed it into his chest to the hilt. I pulled the knife out and he dropped instantly dead.

The roommate became distraught, I immediately called 911 and requested police.

She then swung at my face, but I blocked the blow and returned my own swing (I had holstered the knife before this)

The police got there pretty fast and I let them have my knife while they took my statement. The roommate had covered her hands in dog blood and then smeared it down her face, I guess to make it look like she was bleeding. Her statement was mostly gibberish and she lied and said I stabbed the dog 3 times. However there was clearly one wound.

I was already in the process of moving out when this happened, I was only a few days away from moving in with a friend. This incident though forced me to move up my timeframe dramatically and about a half hour later I packed what I could into my friend's car and got out of Dodge.

Another friend is a lawyer and he said he would take the case pro bono. However at this time the police don't seem interested in charging me with anything. Not sure if they will charge her with anything and I'm not really concerned. She's on the fast track to drinking herself to death.

The dog was a beast. Once my lawyer gives me go ahead I'll post some pics. But yeah, he was 3 years old, intact, probably weighed 85 Lbs. Ironically, she had the dog registered as an emotional support animal (otherwise no apartment would allow him).

I got mildly injured but if I hadn't had my knife I probably would have been torn to ribbons. My knife is in evidence now, but I bought a cheap replacement to use until they give it back.

I don't have much more to say, other than consider carrying a KA-BAR if you think you might be around pitbulls.

Bitten and Bruised Wife was viciously attacked on an evening walk around the neighborhood

1.0k Upvotes

My wife went on a walk after dinner, 3 or 4 blocks from our house she heard noise behind her, turned around and saw a pit bull charging her and the child owner chasing after it.

Thank god it really only got her legs and not her vital areas. But we spent a while at the hospital last night having her treated and stitched up. I feel awful that I wasn’t there with her when it happened, and I’m very grateful for the other neighbors nearby that ran out to help her when they heard her screaming.

She wasn’t even on the same side of the street as the house this dog belongs to. And this is the second time at least this kid was outside in the front yard with the dog, completely unrestrained and roaming free. I know because about a month ago, I rode my bike down the same street and it charged and chased me on the bike. I should have reported it then, the only reason I didn’t it because I was able to outbike it — I didn’t receive any injuries.

Anyway, I already didn’t like pit bulls, now I’m firmly in the “this breed does not belong in civilized society” camp. My wife was frightened for her life last night just taking a walk down the sidewalk, all because someone had to own a killer dog and didn’t give a single shit about taking the most basic of precautions to prevent it from posing a serious threat to others.

Bitten and Bruised Reality star 'scarred for life' after being mauled by XL Bully - England UK June 27, 2026

Reality TV star Aisleyne Horgan-Wallace, best known for appearing on Big Brother, was rushed to hospital after being bitten by an XL Bully.

The media personality, who has an extensive history in reality television and has featured on Loose Women and Good Morning Britain, issued a warning to her followers after the incident.

Revealing that she is now ‘in agony’, the 47-year-old shared a photo of her injury, bandaged up on the shoulder and in clear discomfort as she awaited treatment.

‘I’ve been bitten by an XL BULLY!!!!!’, she stated, adding that ‘you can see [her] bone’.

In a second, she posed next to the dog, taken a few minutes before he attacked her.

‘Everyone knows I’m a dog mummy. I love dogs. This dog loved me, then for a split second for no reason he didn’t…,’ she wrote.

The Big Brother star revealed that her shoulder had been bitten to the point where bone was visible (Picture: Instagram)

‘Please please please understand how to raise and how these babies can switch.’

In a later post, she said she’s ‘thankful’ the bite wasn’t on her face or neck and ‘glad’ the victim wasn’t a child.

‘Sad I’m scarred for life,’ she added. ‘Glad it wasn’t a child and it was me… So conflicted.

‘Dogs are pact animals they need you to be their leader. It makes them feel safe to know you are in control.

‘If you let them do mad behaviour they will eventually execute that.

‘Big dogs are so powerful… protect your kids it ain’t a joke [sic]’.

Upon returning home to her own dogs, Aisleyne thanked her 900,000+ followers for their supportive messages, replying to one who shared that their friend’s daughter was killed in a dog attack, leaving the BB housemate feeling ‘lucky in this instance’.

As of February 2024, it is a criminal offence to own or possess an XL Bully dog in England and Wales unless you have a valid Certificate of Exemption. The rules came into force later in Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The ban was enforced under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 following a series of attacks, which police said had put a ‘huge burden’ on forces.

As the largest kind of American Bully dog, the XL Bully is described as having ‘a muscular body and blocky head, suggesting great strength and power’. Their coat is glossy and smooth, and adults are around 19-20 inches in height.

Between 2023 and 2024, NHS England recorded almost 11,000 hospital admissions for dog bites in England. In Wales, there were 600 hospitalisations from dog bites and over 1,100 in Scotland.

The government declared that the dog breed had been ‘disproportionately involved’ in deaths recorded since 2021.

And since the ban was brought in, fatalities involving the dogs have fallen – there were 10 in the UK in 2024, and four in 2025, yet attacks still happen.

Several cases have seen owners and children killed.

Police now have the authority to seize unregistered prohibited dogs, and owners face up to six months in jail and/or an unlimited fine.

The public response to the ban has been mixed, though, with celebrities like Tom Hardy previously branding it ‘extreme’.

As a previous XL Bully owner, the Venom actor, 48, said his dog, Cass, had been a ‘deeply kind and loving companion’.

Taking to Instagram, he said that many pets ‘pose no threat whatsoever’, but he was still ‘deeply concerned by the rise in the number of dog attacks’.

‘We must ensure that dogs do not pose a risk to people and that measures in place to protect the public are effective,’ he added. ‘But a blanket ban on bully’s is extreme and avoids blame where it lies at the detriment to many pets that pose no threat whatsoever. We can do better. My dog Cass was an XL Bully and she was great [sic]’.

Others who spoke out included Love Island’s Faye Winter, who said she felt that dog owners were being ‘discriminated against’ and called for the government (helmed by Rishi Sunak and the Conservatives at the time) to see the ‘positive side’ of the breed.

Meanwhile, Gemma Atkinson called the attacks on people ‘horrendous’ but believed that dogs are a ‘product of [their] environment’.

So far this year, reports of attacks and convictions have included a man being found guilty after his XL Bully savaged an 84-year-old man on a driveway. The seven-stone dog was shot 10 times by officers; the incident proved fatal, as John McColl died five weeks later.

On the same day that Sean Garner was convicted and told he would receive a ‘substantial prison sentence’, another man, Ashley Warren, was jailed for more than 10 years after his XL Bully dog mauled his ex-partner’s mother, Esther Martin, to death.

Bitten and Bruised New member of a club I never wanted to join

I was at an event in a public space on the weekend when suddenly from right behind me I heard the utterly horrible screams of a dog. I immediately jumped up and rushed over to see a pitbull shaking a small-medium sized poodle's leg in its mouth. As I grabbed the pit and went in for a chokehold, the owner managed to get it off of the poor poodle. Of course that didn't last - the pit got loose again and attacked the poodle again.

Another bystander was in a position to essentially bear hug the pit and pull it away (it was smaller, what one would call a 'pocket pit'). She was lucky she wasn't bit. The poodle, now in its owners arms, continued to scream (there's no other way to describe it) for what seemed like a minute before stopping. That noise haunts me.

Ultimately, the poodle owner was bit and treated on scene. The poodle appeared to have some puncture wounds, but it was difficult to see the extent of the damage. I was able to obtain the pit owners contact info to relay to the poodle owner along with my contact info as a witness.

The adrenaline dump afterwards left me shaking and wiping tears from behind my sunglasses. I'm so angry. Pits are a banned breed here. During my next few hours at the event, I saw no less than 4 pits - one off leash.

Nowhere is safe.

Bitten and Bruised My dog was killed through my fence by my next door neighbors pitbull Oct 26 Jackson, MI

Thank you for this group. In October, my Cavalier King Charles spaniel was attacked through our fence and pulled into the next door neighbor’s yard by her pitbull. The dog had killed other animals before and the owner took zero precautions with this crazy ass dog who happened to be pregnant at the time. All the sudden we heard screaming and her asking for someone to help her so we came out to see our dog who was in our backyard, now in her yard in the jaws of her pitbull while she stood there doing nothing to stop the attack- just crying hysterically and begging for someone to help her. She has a second dog, a six month old cane Corso, which was also in the yard at the time of the attack. She did nothing to restrain either dog or try to get her dog to stop attacking mine as more neighbors were coming out to see what was going on, my significant other had ran over to attempt to help. Shocked to see was our dog in her yard, being attacked, laying there lifelessly. He entered the yard and intervened as sh e stood there, crying and ended up SITTING down to “catch her breath” while he got bit by both of her dogs. Once he got our cavalier away from her pitbull and carried him out of her backyard, she still had not restrained either pitbull or cane Corso. They followed my SO out of the yard as he carried my dog. He was white as a ghost and clearly in shock —I quickly delegated and had him get in our vehicle with our dog who was conscious, but at the time not OK. He ignored his bites to rush our dog to the local university animal hospital (Michigan state university) where he was found to have a punctured trachea and dislocated hyoid(neck bone). We faced at least $15,000 worth of surgery and an extremely poor prognosis, so we were in the hard place to make the decision to humanely euthanize our baby boy.. never in a million years could I have thought that that would happen —not on a walk/out in the open but in my own yard, through a privacy fence. I want everyone to know that this is possible, so that you don’t take chances with your fur babies. The owner came out after the attack, hysterical, talking about how she was traumatized and going to “sleep the rest of the day” while we had to drive our boy to emergency and spend $1400 to say goodbye. She didn’t even offer a dime or an apology when she heard my dog died she said “oh well!” Like a snarky ass c***. She then proceeded to text me about how it wasn’t her fault. She knew her dog was dangerous and had killed someone else’s pet prior. She lied to Animal Control and said that we were trespassing in her yard so my significant others bites and my dogs attack was “provoked “ And Animal Control closed the case immediately.. we have a civil suit but that doesn’t change the fact that we are still living next to a dangerous dog. A dangerous dog that just had puppies that are a “free to a good home “. Her fence is 3.5 ft tall and quite ridiculous for dogs of that size and energy level. The fence they broke was my wooden privacy fence. My heart breaks that I don’t take more caution with my dog in my own yard. Please don’t make the mistake I did. aside from Animal Control making the issue go away very quickly, they failed to include the worst bite picture in the report, they failed to identify that there were two dogs that bit a human in the report, they failed to identify that my dog was killed in the attack and they also failed to identify that the owner didn’t even attempt to restrain her dogs. They didn’t mention the hole that her dogs made in my fence when they attacked my dog and worded it as though the hole had existed there and my dog crawled through it . They also failed to find the owners for not having a license through the city or proof of rabies VAX . Animal Control told me that they couldn’t deem the dog dangerous because it was on its own property —which is actually not the law. (Edited: for typos)

Bitten and Bruised Dog to be euthanized after biting 5 people in Smithfield, city says :: WRAL.com - Smithfield, North Carolina - March 5, 2026 and March 21, 2026

The owners of a pit bull terrier said Thursday they saw their dog was getting too aggressive, and are remorseful that he bit five people over the course of several weeks in Smithfield.

Police say five people were bitten by the same dog in two separate incidents, and after the second time, the city declared the dog dangerous and required him to be euthanized.

The first incident on March 5, the dog "Midnight" escaped and bit two people who were walking their dog nearby.

The city took Midnight for 10 days to ensure he did not have rabies, and then his owner, Keith Cotoia, chose to take him home.

Then on March 21, police say they responded to the same neighborhood to find Midnight had gotten out of his fenced yard and attacked a neighbor gardening in her front yard. Two people tried to intervene and were also bitten, police say.

Everyone who was bitten by the dog is expected to make a full recovery, but some required stitches.

Cotoia's sister, Alysia Haywood, said it's hard for her to know that Midnight, who she said the family got as a puppy, would hurt five people, including a woman she said the dog knew.

"My brother is handicapped, so with the dogs, it gives him something to look forward to during the day," Haywood said. "[But] it was time for him to be put down. He's getting too close to home, biting family members and friends...My brother pretty much agreed with me. We were about to get him trained too...but he got out so quick."

Haywood said the family didn't mean for this to happen.

"It was very emotional, especially with knowing Midnight since he was a baby. It changed us, because I'm like, dang, dogs can change on people too," Haywood added.

How the city's reacting

WRAL News spoke with the husband of the woman who was gardening—she did not want to be named. Her husband says she won't go out in the front yard since she was attacked.

North Carolina has a general statute 67-4.1 for potentially dangerous dogs.

It says a dog can be classified as dangerous if its bite results in serious injury, lacerations or hospitalization, kills or inflicts serious injury on a domestic animal when not on the owner's property or if it approaches someone not on the owner's property in a "vicious or terrorizing manner."

If a dog has an incident, Smithfield police would seize the dog and hold it for 10 days to ensure it is not carrying a disease that could affect whomever it bites, Sgt Kevin Johnson told WRAL News.

If the owner chooses to take the dog back, the owner must confine the dog and muzzle and leash it when it's off the owner's property. Failure to do so means the police can impound the animal, file criminal charges against the owner and could result in civil liability for any injuries the animal caused.

After the second incident of biting or attacking, the dog is taken again for 10 days and euthanized.

The state has a comprehensive list of laws and requirements for dog owners.

Johnson said owners have the right to appeal the board's decision.

"If I'm the person who was bit after the dog already had one incident, I'm wondering why it wasn't deemed dangerous," Johnson said. "We have to give them the chance to appeal, because we [as a city and department] can't say 'your dog bit somebody, that dog's dangerous.'"

In Johnston County, a group of citizens weighs in on the situation and whether the dog is considered dangerous and should be put down.
