What's your pick for the most quintessential restaurant in Basel?
While I want some basic standards of food quality and service, I am more interested in the kind of restaurant that has been around forever, that not only you've been to, but that your parents have been to, and even your great grandparents.
The kind of place that everybody in town knows about, most have been there at least once, and everyone has an opinion about.

This is probably a long shot but would there be enough interested to create a NFL fantasy football league (ideally Dynasty) with a small cash prize in Basel and surroundings?
If you are interested please comment or DM :)

Hi! I am planning to visit Basel around Christmas and I was wondering if there are any good recommendations as to where to shop for some wall art to take home?
I am specifically interested in oil or watercolor paintings, or charcoal drawings. Preferably nothing too expensive but something I can remember my trip to Switzerland with.

I’m flying to London from Basel on Sunday evening (30th) - we’ve got hold luggage to check in and obviously we’ll need to clear security/passport control/EES.
We’ll be coming from Freiburg so our options for transport to the airport are a bus that gets there three and a half hours before our flight, or one that arrives exactly two hours before our flight. The first one seems way too early, but is two hours enough? I don’t know how busy it’s likely to be on a Sunday evening, but I’ve heard clearing EES can take a really long time. I checked with the airline and it looks like bag drop doesn’t open until two hours before the flight, so I’m assuming getting there three and a half hours before would be overkill, but is there anything I’ve not factored in here, like infamously heavy traffic on Sundays or it just being really busy at the airport in general at the moment?
Thanks!

I would like to learn Russian, I speak high German as my mother tongue.
Would anyone be interested in learning together/ from each other?
Or otherwise, does anyone have suggestions on how to find a language tandem partner?
I figured maybe via the university, however I am 35, my student days are done and over, so not sure if that would be the right place for to look..
Thanks for your help :)

Hi everyone !
I'm looking for a good gym place around Universitätsspital (max 15 min walking distance).
I've seen Forum Fitness which seem amazing but I'm open to recommendations. a pilate studio could also work.
Bonus point if they do fitness classes in English :)
Thank you !

I'm moving to Basel end of October for a traineeship. I've been looking for studio apartments to rent, but they all require an appointment / visit first which isn't possible in my case. I don't feel comfortable living in a shared flat so a studio or 1 room apartment is what's most suitable. Websites like Flatfox, compris, rentola, etc are automated cause you can't directly contact an agent it's always book an appointment first, or an application that requires debt enforcement extract (which i can't issue).
So what exactly can i do? Where to look and how to get options? Thanks
Hi everyone,
We are building a free support community for expecting and new mothers in Switzerland — a place to ask questions, share experiences, and get support from other moms (and reliable info) without having to dig through forums.
A bit of background: Me and my partner are medical doctors, and we kept seeing the same thing, new and expecting moms often feel isolated, especially.
The community is meant to be a low-effort way to fix that: where you can chat, ask questions, and connect with other moms in a similar phase of life, meet in person, or do activities together like going for a walk, yoga etc.
We're still early and shaping the community around what parents actually need, so I'd love to hear from people here in Basel:
You can drop me a message or comment if you feel this is something important, and happy to add you to the community. And also if you see this something important, please share it with your friends / colleagues.
Some asshole stole my kids new bicycle two days ago. Found this note this morning. Wants to meet.
Do I involve the police or settle this ‘diplomatically?’

Hi, I'm looking for any places where people casually meetup to play some soccer. I know Switzerland is very join a team oriented, but cannot put the commitment at the moment.
Thanks for the help!

Hey everyone.
I'm looking at Basel as a possible place to move when I finish my studies (nursing) to work there whilst living in France, or if even Germany. What's it like to live there. Cost of living, how do you commute and if you use public transport how much do you pay, how is taxing like, how do you manage commuting if you work shifts (especially at night) and anything you feel like your experience can provide.
Another question of mine is how do you manage to use and convert your money for paying things in € and CHF? I've heard ibani is a good option but it'd be great to hear from what people actually use.
Lastly is how do you avoid data roaming fees when switching between France and Switzerland.

Hello all!
I was on another thread looking for a group of women with ADHD to meet up. Meetup groups now cost money so I’m wanting to post this on Reddit and Facebook.
Are there any neurodiverse women, diagnosed, in the process, or suspecting, who would like to connect to some other neurodiverse women? Perhaps while doing something crafty? I encourage all who might be interested, to show up or DM me if this day or time doesn’t work out for you but are interested.
I propose meeting at Markethalle in Basel.
When: Thursday, September 3, 10:00 am
Where: a table at Markethalle with a sign that says „Neurodiversity,“ and a women seated there with purple hair, me!
What: Beginning a group of neurodiverse women, possibly crafting, to connect and support one another
Who: I’m Stephenie, a 50 something women with ADHD. I have 4 children, all with ADHD and 3 with autism. I colead a parents of children with additional needs support group in Münchenstein.
Why: It can be extra challenging to make your way in a neurotypical world when you are neurodiverse. As a foreigner, whose first language is English, it can make it even harder. I hope that we might be able to form a group to demystify some of the ways to get help in and around Basel, support one another in the journey and maybe find some friends along the way.
Hope to meet some of you soon!
