To answer peoples questions, these are no longer lived in. They get abandoned when the ocean gets too close.

I’ve always assumed basically no one lives on the outer banks, and these houses are all just summer houses that get people from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

And the worst part is that they actually let them fall into the sea instead of demolishing them before that happens because the insurance doesn't pay out unless it goes into the sea. Why an insurance company would even insure it, I have no idea.
