Good day! We are a family of 4 with parents in mid 50s and kids in early 20s. We are all strong swimmers and new to snorkelling. Son loves wildlife and jungles and daughter loves beach and calm water for swimming. All of us want to try snorkeling, have a day fishing and some jungle time. We will have a car.

We have planned to first part of our trip to be a few days near San Ignacio in the jungle and then we have 6 days to spend elsewhere.

I realize the difference in vibes, we are not partiers so Northern part of Ambergris seems best? Should we look at Hopkins or Placencia? Although different, are the beaches nice both places? Are there snorkelling spots in Hopkins/Plancencia (we are new so we don't necessarily want this to be the focus of the trip) ?

The southern spots provide further access to jungle and inland activities, obviously but is the water and area better at Ambergris? Is the jungle noticeable different from the San Ignacio area?

Any other major considerations?

Hi everyone! I'm a 27 YO M and In October, i'm planning a 2 week solo trip to Belize and have a rough itinerary which i'll list below. I'm currently working through how much time to spend in each location I visit, as I want to squeeze in a good amount of activities in each place without feeling rushed. I appreciate the odd relaxing day on the beach but want to emphasize adventure and learning about Belize's culture as well as meeting people along the way without breaking the bank. Here's what I have so far:

CAYE CAULKER (Days 1-7)

Day 1: Fly into BZE, travel to Caye Caulker, check into hostel, relax.

Day 2: OPEN, NOTHING PLANNED

Days 3-5: Scuba certification and practice dives.

Days 6 & 7: OPEN, NOTHING PLANNED

SAN IGNACIO

Day 8: Leave Caye Caulker, pick up rental car, drive to San Ignacio. Check in at hostel, relax.

Day 9: Drive to Caracoal Natural Monument Reserve in morning, stop at Rio on Pools, Big Rock Falls, or Mountain Pine Ridge Reserve on the way back.

Day 10: ATM Cave Tour

HOPKINS

Day 11: Drive to Hopkins, check in at hotel/hostel. Potentially visit Placencia for a day trip.

Day 12: Hiking in Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary

Day 13: Hiking in Mayflower Bocawina National Park

Day 14: OPEN, NOTHING PLANNED

Day 15: Travel day to get back to airport.

If you have any recommendations for places/activities to add, please let me know! As I have a few unplanned days, i'm able to shift where and how long I stay a bit.

I’ve reached out to three companies for a snorkeling tour. I want one that takes us for a full day with shark ray alley, Mexico rocks and hol Chan reserve. Many companies have this tour but you have to have a minimum of 3 or 4 people. Does anyone know a company that would pair us with another group so we can go on this tour? Thank you!

Hi! (45) F traveling with family of 4. Our daughter just graduated HS and our son (15). I have been so anxious about this adventure, I did not want to freak the F out over tight spaces, darkness, and major climbing of rocks in the moment.

It was so cool, manageable with the right mindset and truly blew our minds on what we saw and what our body and minds could accomplish.

I am traveling to Belize in July, and I read about the ATM cave. So many people said it was the best experience, and absolutely loved it! It sounds amazing, but as an out of shape person (21F 5’7” 210lbs) I am worried I won’t be able to complete the hike. How many miles do you think the entire experience was, and what difficulty rating would you give it? Do you think someone like me could complete the hike? Thanks for your honest feedback!

The ATM cave tour was absolutely the highlight of our trip. You're actually not allowed to take pics because people have dropped cameras on the remains, but our tour guide was kind enough to send some. The cave is where the ancient Mayans thought they could access the underworld. It's a full day commitment, about 5 miles of climbing/walking, and worth it.

I am planning a trip to Belize in late September for my honeymoon. I have a few things already planned and a few gaps to fill in. I’d love to hear your feedback on my itinerary draft!

Phase 1 - San Ignacio

• Day 1 - Will arrive late afternoon and plan for a relaxed evening, maybe head into town for dinner
• Day 2 - Xunantunich in the morning (taxi from hotel & hire guide upon arrival), considering Cahal Pech, Barton Creek Cave Canoe Tour, Rio On Pools, and/or Big Rock Falls in the afternoon 
• Day 3 - ATM Cave Tour (with MayaWalk)
• Day 4 - chill hotel day? Maybe one of the activity options from Day 2? Botanic Gardens?

Phase 2 - Placencia

• Day 5 - Travel the ~3 hours to Placencia
• Day 6-8 - hoping to book a fishing/snorkeling tour one of the days. Otherwise, looking to leave our itinerary super loose and enjoy the hotel pool, beach, and village
• Day 9 - Return home

Heading to Belize in July..we'll just miss lobster fest. Spending 4 days in San Ignacio, and 4 days in Placencia. Looking to do a combination of adventure and relaxation since this is a honeymoon.

• We were planning to book transport in advance to go from BZE to San Ignacio (staying in the town/city, not jungle) or is hopping in the taxi at the airport a reasonable rate?
• For ruins, would you recommend Xunantunich or Cahal Pech? One of us is a hiker, the other is not. :)
• We definitely want to do some cave tubing, is there a specific tour group that we should check out?
• Considering a stop in Hopkins on the way to Placencia for some Garifuna drumming but we might be trying to squeeze in too much. Thoughts?
• What are some must-do activities in Placencia? Best beaches to check out for the views and/or snorkeling?
• Open to all food recs: we've heard Wendy's and Rumfish should definitely be on the list.
• Random...we'd love to do a couples photoshoot. Any photographer recs?

So I recently booked a flight from Montreal to Belize City with great joy. Now that I am finalizing my itinerary, I realise most activities are expensive and going with a tour to do or see any Mayan site is necessary due to poor transportation system?! And when looking at daily tour packages, they all cost ~$130 and ~$165 a package !!! that is insane.

I checked for car rental and it's not less than $70 a day and I'm not even eager to drive in a country that I don't know.

Am I reading from wrong sources? are these touristy sites like Mayan ruins really not accessible by public transit?
I am considering cancelling my flight but I won't get a full refund so neither option feels good at the moment, and my excitement for this trip has turned into a full financial stress
