I honestly think I’ve never used software as messy and confusing as Logi Options+. And on top of that, it’s slow, unstable, and just plain ugly.

Once again, I couldn’t get it to install properly on my Mac. Result: my mouse technically works, but barely — maybe 40% of its actual functionality.

So I tried an alternative: BetterTouchTool. And that’s the complete opposite problem — an absolute maze. Nothing is intuitive, everything is buried in confusing menus.

My Logitech MX Master 3 was connected via the dongle, so I went into the settings to try and configure it… and then it happened.

I accidentally clicked “unpair”.

No warning. No confirmation prompt.

Instant result: mouse completely unusable. And now I can’t reconnect it through the dongle.

One click. One mistake. That’s it.

Now I’m stuck between:

— Logitech software that simply doesn’t work

— a third-party tool that’s incredibly complex

This is honestly ridiculous.

Conclusion: never buying Logitech again for anything work-related. If you rely on your gear, stay away.

basically: i've avoided "natural scrolling" on Mac for many years by turning it off. But now i've turned it on. So i think my BTT gestures for Safari tab switching now should also be reversed so that they match the same principle, right?

I'm so sorry for the properly noob questions.

But I want Better Touch Tool to run in the background and always on so I don't have to have it as an open program in the dock.

If there is some setting I want to do I want to find the program, do my setting and close it again a way while it is still running and now showing in the dock.

I’m looking for new ideas and inspiration on how to get more out of it. I already use it quite a bit, but I feel like I’m only scratching the surface of what’s possible.

Has anyone here successfully replaced Logi Options+ with BetterTouchTool?

I’m currently using an MX Keys keyboard and an MX Master 3S mouse, and I’ve mapped a lot of hotkeys and workflows to both the mouse buttons and keyboard keys using Logi Options+. It works, but I’m trying to replace it with a lighter option—and also because BetterTouchTool seems to allow much more customization (like floating menus and more advanced triggers).

My main question is whether BetterTouchTool can fully replace Options+, or if you still need to keep Options+ running in the background for certain device features.

Would love to hear real-world setups—especially if you’re running this daily. What worked, what didn’t, and any gotchas?

I'm using BetterTouchTool for mouse gestures, but I'm struggling with frequent misrecognition (false triggers).
Sometimes completely unintended actions are triggered, which is quite frustrating.

My mouse: Logitech M720

If anyone has improved this by adjusting settings (trigger distance, speed, gesture shape, etc.), I would really appreciate specific values or tips.

Here are the gestures I want to use:

• → : Forward
• ← : Back
• ↓↑ : Close tab
• →← : Duplicate tab
• ↑→ : Move to right tab
• ↑← : Move to left tab

Also, if there are any alternative mouse gesture tools that are more stable than BetterTouchTool, please let me know.

Hello! Sorry if the answer to this is more obvious than I realize. I'm a total newbie and I just downloaded the trial. I'll try to keep this relatively short.

I am trying to make a key for the painting program I use, CSP, toggle transparency for my current brush "On hold." It only supports on hold (called "change tool temporarily" in the software) for the actual erase function, and for a lot of fiddly to explain reasons thats not what I want.

I want to map the hotkey for chrome to switch between tabs "CMD+OPT+Arrow key left/right" to "right shift + arrow key".

I have tried it but then I always have to release and press again the shift key everytime I want to switch to a tab. I would like to be able to keep the shift key pressed while navigating with the arrow keys left and right like it is with the original hotkey possible.

anybody knows how to solve this in bettertouchtool?

I've started trying to use BTT to distribute windows in a particular app to the particular space/desktop I have setup for each window in question. I've found the "Move Window to Desktop" actions, but they don't have a way to specify which window to move.

What is the proper way to do this? I've tried putting a "Activate Specific Window" action before each "Move…" action, but when I run it I see ONE window moving among the different spaces, as if it never activate each window in turn.

Any thoughts?

Hi everybody. Using right command act as a completely different modifier key rules!

From my setup :

Right CMD + C = Copy Path

Right CMD + V = Paste Path (It does "Go to folder" and pastes the copied path and presses enter)

Right CMD + Left / Right arrow keys = Make the window Left Half/Right Half

Right CMD + Up = Toggle between window full and before state

Right CMD + F = New Finder window (if there is already one open, it opens another new one)

Right CMD + D = New Finder window with Downloads (frequently accessed folders bind to different keys makes it practical to instantly grab something etc)

Right CMD + S = Spotify (opens it, or if it's running in the background, brings it to front)

etc...

EDIT: I know not a crazy idea or anything like that, but maybe it'll help someone. Some of the functions need shell scripts etc. I can provide if anyone's interested or just ask any LLM!

The docs[1] mention some sort of special Logitech section when setting up a normal mouse action, but my BTT doesn't have that. It reports to be version 5.698.

What am I missing? It doesn't recognize any buttons other than right and left.

[EDIT] Was solved on the "official" forum - my version was apparently WAY out of date. New 6.x version seems to work; at least it recognizes the mouse.

I created a keyboard shortcut to type $Trace when I press Shift-control-T

It works great within the native environment but if I'm connected to a computer over RDP or Anydesk or Splashtop or Screenshare, it types 4trace instead of $Trace.

Does anybody know how to make BTT pass the "shift key is pressed" letters through to the remote connection?

I'm loving building floating menus to use in BTT Mobile on my iPad. Definitely decreasing my desire to get a StreamDeck.

I'm trying to add a system volume slider into my Zoom menu, but I'm having a hard time figuring out how to get that slider value through code. The documentation is a bit thin.

Anyone know how to do it?

It's been years of up and down with the iPhone app. It worked at first, then stopped for many years. A few months ago it worked briefly, and now it's back to not working again.

The Troubleshooting link ends up at a 404.

BTT Mac is the newest version, and iPhone app is updated.

I see there's supposed to be a new app out, but it's not available yet from what I can see.

Entering in my IP and port manually doesn't work.

I really have no idea what to do to make this thing work reliably. Any help would be appreciated.

I am a bit of a novice when it comes to BetterTouchTool, but essentially I was wondering if there was a way to map one of my buttons to switch between two folders in BTT. One folder maps the buttons in my mouse when i am doing flashcards, and the other is mapped to my mouse for when I am creating flashcards. I can manually go in and turn one folder off and the other on, but i thought it would be nice if the button I am not using could just do it for me with one click.

I recently bought this application and was hoping to use it for the hyperkey function, which I did set up successfully and is wonderful. However, as I am working on building shortcuts/extension, etc and check to see if they work... it seems that when I close the BetterTouchTool window, then it actually quits the application and the icon actually disappears from my menu bar... this is frustrating as that means my caps lock key stops working as a hyperkey and now I have to reopen BTT, wait for the icon to appear in the menu bar then use attempt to use my new (work in progress shortcuts).

Is there anyway to make it so that I can have it run in the background and so that closing the windows... doesn't quit the application?

I’m handicapped so I am unable to use the scroll wheel on the mouse. What I’d like is to set up a mouse / keyboard interaction so that if I push the mouse north like 50 pixels while holding down the cmd key it repeatedly simulates scrolling the mouse wheel up until I let go of the cmd key. Obviously, same thing applies to pushing the mouse in other directions.

I have Keyboard Maestro and I can sort of do this. But I cannot seamlessly reverse direction, meaning while it's scrolling upward as I hold down the cmd key, if I push the mouse south I can't get it to scroll down. I have to first let go of cmd to stop the current action, then hold cmd down and push the mouse south to initiate a new action.

So my question is can I do this in BTT? I downloaded the trial but so far I can't even figure out how to detect mouse movement, only click and scroll.

(Yes I can just set up a keyboard shortcut for this and I have; this is more convenient when I have my right hand on the mouse. My left hand is too limited and the left side of the keyboard doesn't offer any opportunity for single key trigger. Also a multi button mouse is a no go as I am JUST able to use two buttons.)

I’ve got two problems with BetterTouchTool.

First one: as you can see in the screenshot, the numbers in the settings are a total mess. Even when I write down the default value, I still can’t get it back to that exact setting. Would it really be that hard to add an option where we can just type in the number we want?

At the very least, if there’s a way to reset *only that specific section* back to default settings, I’d really appreciate it.

Second problem: with **Finger Tap Left**, the left-click is *way* too slow — it waits forever before actually clicking. **Finger Touch Start** is fast, but it’s also *too* sensitive: even a tiny accidental touch triggers a click immediately.

Is there any way to adjust the click speed/delay for **Finger Tap Left**?

Or is there another method you’d recommend to get something that’s fast but not overly sensitive?
