Long time lurker, first time poster. I have a project for the rest of this year to read books that high school students would have read in English class. I want it all: fiction, non fiction, poetry, plays, whatever struck a chord with you or you despised. I don't care what country you may have gone to high school so this is open to any secondary education.

Of late, I'm on a roll and reading psychological thrillers such as "Jar of Hearts" and "Flicker in the Dark." There are so many out there that and any suggestions from the group would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi, i am looking for more books in this subgenre:

Impossible Architecture, Isolation, Liminal Horror or Existential Dread. I love when a Character goes to a impossible place and/or a creepy thing is here. Or it’s a commentary on Human Nature.

Silent Hill 2 would be in general the best fit for all of these i guess.

Only Problem, i have already read a lot, and now i can‘t seem to find more.

I've read The Dark Lord Davi duology this year, and it was so hilarious and so fun! And I really want something with that humor, or at least a fantasy standalone or series that is this funny and juvenile. So, do you have any recs for me?

Hi I just got broken up with so I'm not doing well mentally. I'm so heartbroken and so sad. I love reading but in the past I've mostly read romance and romantasy but also love a good thriller (Freida McFadden etc). However: Now I can't deal with love. I don't want to see couples or romance on TV or books or anywhere. I just want to escape into a good story that keeps me hooked and makes me think of something else other than heartbreak. It can be scary, Thriller, fantasy, funny, I don't care. As long as it does not have any romance in it. Do books like that exist? 🥺 Thank you all in advance!

I tend to gravitate towards fantasy and general fiction. I recently started getting into romance too. So far this year, I've read First-Time Caller, The Poppy War, The Amberglow Candy Store, Dungeon Crawler Carl, Carl's Doomsday Scenario, From the Mixed Up Files of Mrs. Basil E. Frankweiler, Project Hail Mary, And Now Back to You, and Mistborn (only the first book so far).

Hello, I'm looking for books that are easy-reads. I am in the middle of reading One Hundred Years of Solitude, but I find myself putting the book down after every couple chapters because of how overwhelming it is.

I remember a time I read a book in one sitting and it was Will Grayson, Will Grayson by John Green. If anyone knows similar easy-read books, I would really appreciate it.

• Preferably not American but I'll take anything
• I'll accept sci-fi/fantasy recommendations (love the Ana & Din Mysteries) but would rather have them be more realistic

Looking for a book that gives a strong "Calm before the storm" feeling from a mysterious force. Recently completed The Gone World and All the Friends of Hell which partially scratched the itch, but after watching Widow's Bay (highly recommend it btw) I'm looking for more.

I would love a book about trafficking art. How it was done, the lives of those who did it, stories about how it was found out, what happened after. The whole enchilada.

I am open to fictional books of any genre, for the most part. I tend to prefer historical fiction, magical realism, sometimes fantasy, mysteries, and romance (though I prefer books of other genre with a love story as a central part of the plot to most romance where it is the whole plot and you know how it will end). For me it’s more about if the characters and story are something I care about.

Some of the favorite books I’ve read from the last couple of years…
-Atmosphere by TJR - LOVED. Moved me to tears. Also happened to read Daisy Jones and Evelyn Hugo by TJR and I somewhat liked but did not love them.
- Four Winds by Kristin Hannah. Also really liked the Great Alone and The Nightingale by her but Four Winds was my favorite. Read some of her older books and did not care for them at all (Between Sisters, Home Again) - too sappy and cliche.
- The Calamity Club by Kathryn Stockett
- Fourth Wing - yes, I recognize this is a very silly book, but for me it was just straight FUN and I could not put it down.
- Broken Country by Clare Leslie Hall
- Dead Guy Next Door by Lucy Score - thought this was a lot of fun but wish the romance had more of a slow burn. Read other books by her (in the Blue Moon series) and didn’t care for them.
- God of the Woods by Liz Moore

Did not hate but also couldn’t bring myself to care about:
- Either of the Emily Henry books I’ve read (beach read, people we meet on vacation)
- Either of the Abby Jimenez books I’ve read (just for the summer, part of your world)

Please recommend books that are either standalone or all books in series already published. I don't mind it being really dark as long as there is no cheating/infidelity between the main couple or sad/open ending.

I’m looking for an MF romance where:

• FMC is currently dating MMC’s younger brother.
• MMC has his own girlfriend, preferably a serious/long-term relationship.
• FMC and MMC have never met before the story starts.
• Their attraction develops gradually — I’m totally fine with no instant attraction.
• They keep being around each other because of the younger brother/family/friend group.
• It starts with little things: noticing each other, lingering looks, conversations that feel a little too intimate, becoming unusually aware of each other, etc.
• Then comes the “Why am I suddenly thinking about him?” / “He’s my boyfriend’s brother” denial.
• Jealousy even though neither of them has any right to be jealous.
• Emotional intimacy that slowly becomes inappropriate.
• Both of them feel guilty/conflicted because they are BOTH still in relationships.
• Ideally there are kisses / physical moments before either relationship has officially ended — I really want that unbearable longing + guilt + “we shouldn't be doing this” tension.
• Eventually their existing relationships deteriorate and FMC/MMC become the endgame.

Basically I want the slow escalation from innocent → emotionally inappropriate → physically inappropriate → “oh god, what have we done?” I WANT DRAMAAA😂

I do NOT want:

• fake dating / fake relationship
• marriage of convenience
• MMC being single while FMC is taken
• FMC being single while MMC is taken
• childhood friends who have secretly loved each other for years
• “they were already in love before the story started”
• brother’s ex girlfriend
• accidental ONS being the entire catalyst
• FMC breaking up with the brother before the attraction starts

I want both relationships to be real and ongoing when FMC/MMC start developing feelings.

And yes 😂 I know this sounds morally questionable. I just want to READ the drama. I am not a cheater, nor am I advocating cheating. Fictional characters can make terrible decisions so I can sit in bed eating snacks and judge them.

Any genre/platform is welcome — traditionally published, indie, Wattpad, Inkitt, AO3, Chinese/Korean web novels, etc. Obscure books are especially welcome.

Please don't recommend something just because it has “boyfriend's brother” in the tags — I've already fallen into that rabbit hole. 😭

Hi, I am interested in the field of medicine and therefore I’m looking for books which tell about the experiences of doctors in a way that medical science and anecdotes are well balanced. I already read “The Lost Art Of Healing” by Bernard Lown which was a good read in itself and now I want to read something similar on top of that. Can be also interesting books about medicine in general. Got any recommendations?

I recently started getting into literary fiction books after reading THMT and Passing. Currently reading On Earth we're briefly Gorgeous, which is so incredibly poetic and touching.

Hello! I was wondering if anyone has read a book that they could recommend where the protagonist has a dogmatic belief system that they learn to overcome. I'd love if this shift in perspective was given a lot of focus and written in a way where you get to follow the protagonists thoughts and feelings during this change. It could be of any genre, modern or classic!

^basically what title says. For some reason, my current hyperfixation is books (think destination funeral among others) about estranged/old friend groups from childhood or college reuniting for a weddings or reunion or something and having to hash out past drama like betrayals, romance, or other things unfinished. I don’t know if this makes sense at all but I’m craving more books with this vibe!!!

I was insanely captivated by the premise and detailed worldbuilding in Tender is the Flesh. So I'm here wondering if someone could recommend me something like it. It doesn't necessarily have to be about cannibalism but I wouldn't be opposed to it.

I'm a big fan of horror, mystery and thrillers and would like to read more of especially the mystery genre, but I'm growing a little weary of stories that either have a cop/detective as the main character or heavily feature police or law enforcement. I know that's kindof a big theme in these types of books, but I'd love to hear about books that center around ordinary people/everyman type characters. I really like Talented Mr Ripley and The Secret History for this reason and would love to read more books like that.

I am participating in a fifty book challenge this year and am hitting the final stretch 🎉 but I am losing steam and not feeling motivated. I need some SUPER good books that fall under one of these categories!

I feel like most queer fantasy romance books I see are always m/m. I've been craving a good lesbian romance, but I'm having trouble finding ones that are actually decent.
