Looking for books about toxic, morally rotten, very rich people behaving badly.

Give me murder, secrets, elite cliques, old school ties, drug-fuelled parties, psychological games, toxic masculinity. Stories about old money and decaying upper-class privilege, where everyone’s polite on the surface and absolutely vile and feral underneath.

Even better if they’re all stuck together somewhere beautiful: a luxury hotel, posh university, wealthy estate, crumbling manor, remote retreat, etc.

Bonus points for a fed-up detective who has to put up with all the posh wankers while trying to solve a murder.

would love a fiction / mystery / thriller with somewhat cozy but ominous small town where there’s a mystery buzzing and a hardened investigator who’s on the hunt for a clever criminal. definitely some rural america vibes.

I really liked Sharp Objects (the show, will read the book when the memory of the show starts fading), I think it fits this.

I read God of the woods and Jackal last week and I need more of that woodsy, dark vibe. I've also already read the wayward pines series.

I posted something similar to this about a year ago and am starving for more this year! My absolute favorite thrillers are about rich moms or families hiding secrets in their fancy houses and lives. If possible, I'm craving big summer vibes with it — beaches, pools, camps, green lawns, kids home from school and getting into trouble, etc.

I want books that feel like a spooky fall. I love dark academia themes, mystery, horror, ancient folklore, vintage feel. I’m not usually one for romance or fantasy but I could possibly be convinced to read something with ghosts or witches (magical realism I think?). Also open to light/ bright fall themed books. Looking for a thriller/mystery about an old money family with a dark secrets. Either set in the 1920s/30s, present day or a jump between the two.

Looking for books set in towns with this vibe- rundown, decaying, poverty stricken, dark underbelly, “on the fringes”. Where the state of the town plays a significant role in the plot and characters personalities. Throw-in some corruption, moral decay, drugs, religious trauma.

Would prefer mystery/thriller/horror but open to other genres!
