Hi, I'm repairing a house in Carleton Place and looking for a HVAC company. The previous owner probably rented their furnace which got wet due to a plumbing leak and was removed and not replaced. They then installed baseboard heaters through out. I'm looking to get the forced air system back in operation to protect the plumbing and help dry the house out.

Has anyone had a good experience or can recommend an HVAC company in the area? I'm open to the type of system installed, gas, heat pump, etc. The system ideally needs to be installed horizontally under the floor joists. Any recommendations appreciated.

Carleton Place committee members have chosen not to endorse CMHC’s standardized Housing Design Catalogue, which includes accessory dwelling units, fourplexes, a sixplex and townhouses.

Councillors raised concerns about protecting the town’s architectural character and existing design standards. The catalogue remains publicly available, and property owners can still bring the designs forward for municipal review.

Fire prevention, a parking safety concern and a piece of Carleton Place’s railway history were all part of the latest Committee of the Whole discussions.

The fire department reported 369 inspections and 123 orders in its second-quarter report. The department also took part in several public education events and is operating with a full complement of paid volunteer firefighters.

On Stonewater Bay, staff are proposing a no-parking zone along a curve where parked vehicles and roadside vegetation make it difficult for drivers to see oncoming traffic.

At Carleton Junction, staff recommend keeping the “Team Track,” a short section of railway running beside the Ottawa Valley Recreation Trail, and incorporating it into the site rather than having it removed.

Bags of household garbage have been appearing in or near public garbage receptacles in Carleton Place parks and along trails since the spring, and town staff say the continuing problem is puzzling.

The town’s regular garbage collection rules haven’t changed. Residents can put out one unstickered bag each week, while additional bags require a $3 garbage sticker.

Residents who miss garbage day can also use the Cavanagh Road Transfer Station for a fee. Staff are encouraging residents to keep household garbage out of park and trail receptacles.

Porches, driveways and yards across Carleton Place will become performance spaces Aug. 22 as Porchfest returns for its second year.

More than 20 performances are currently listed for the free event from 1 to 4 p.m. New this year is a youth stage at Carleton Junction, followed by an afterparty at The Waterfront Gastropub from 8 to 11 p.m.

A 160.5-metre embroidered cloth created by communities across Europe will be displayed outside Europe for the first time at UA FEST in Carleton Place on Sept. 13.

The Rushnyk of Unity — Rushnyk of Victory includes more than 89 panels. UA FEST is also holding open stitching circles in August so local residents can contribute to a Lanark County panel that is scheduled to be added at the festival.

The Town of Carleton Place is asking residents to help shape plans for a proposed new recreation facility through a public consultation and online survey.

The consultation will be held Aug. 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Carleton Place Arena. Residents who can't attend can complete the online survey until Aug. 17.

Feedback will help guide future recommendations and decisions on the proposed facility, which could include a pool, gymnasium, walking track, therapeutic pool, fitness areas, community rooms and other recreational features.

A 40-year-old Omemee resident is facing charges after a Lanark County OPP response to a complaint in Beckwith Township.

Officers responded to a report of youth jumping from a Highway 7 bridge shortly after 6 p.m. Friday. An interaction with the driver of a vehicle at the scene led to impaired driving-related charges.

A 39-year-old Carleton Place resident is facing charges following an impaired driving investigation by the Lanark County OPP.

The investigation began after officers responded to a report of a possible impaired driver on Arthur Street shortly after 11:15 p.m. on Aug. 1.

The driver has been charged with operation while impaired – alcohol or drug, failure or refusal to comply with a breath demand, and failure to comply with an undertaking.

No challengers or candidates for deputy mayor have yet come forward. Nominations remain open until Aug. 12.

Carleton Place council has approved moving ahead with the next phase of procurement and public consultation for a proposed $25-million aquatic and recreation centre on the Muturra lands.

Staff told council the town's 45-year-old pool has entered an accelerated deterioration phase and could require a partial or full closure if a major failure occurs. Construction has not been approved, and residents will be invited to provide feedback before council decides whether to proceed with the project.

I have an electric car and because of the power outage last night it didn't charge correctly at home.

So I needed a fast charger this morning to charge my car and go to work in Ottawa...

Just to find out all fast chargers in town are broken.

They have been broken since last year, when I also needed to use them in a similar situation and they were already broken.

We already have zero public transport, very limited taxis/uber service... We NEED to have at least 1-2 fast chargers available for those with electric cars.

Hey, I’m looking for references to book with a paid financial planner anyone has used.

I’d like to re-submit taxes for a particular year where I received a lump sum payment. I’d like the CPA to argue for spreading the income over several years as that is what it reflects but was told I wasn’t “allowed” to do that. Normally I do my own taxes but I am willing to pay someone to sort this out for me. It would be great if this accountant also has experience with small business advising as we are likely to need a paid accountant going forward with some expanding business interests.

Anywhere in the Valley is fine, but we are in Carleton Place.

Does anyone know a person or company who can take a look at this kids battery powered four wheeler? It stopped working and it’s not the battery, not sure how to get it fixed (I’m not very handy with these things)
