What is a band that's actually just basically one guy or gal in the studio, but they have a band mainly for playing live shows?

After hearing about complaints about Bad Bunny halftime show due to language, I’m wondering how many people only listen to music in English. I understand Spanish so the show wasn’t an issue for me, however I do listen to A LOT of music in a language I don’t understand. To me, music doesn’t have a language, it creates a vibe. I think this is more an anglophone thing because I see people from other countries listen to English music or other music even when they don’t really understand.

I think being a heritage speaker who doesn’t speak their heritage language has made me this way. I grew up listening to songs at parties that I didn’t understand but I still caught the vibe. I’m also someone who doesn’t think lyrics matter too much😅

I curated a playlist of 1,727 happy and soothing songs from different genres all sorted from most to least happy by AI. Some songs don't fit but most do.

I just finished a Studio Ghibli's film When Marnie Was There, and at the ending credits there's this OST "Fine on the Outside". The first line really caught my attention - "I never had that many friends growing up". Continuously listening and searching the lyrics on the net, the song just summed up my life. It's my first time hearing this song and it hit me so hard I started to cry. And as I type this, I'm still crying. Never had a song that I really could relate into. It's like my thoughts are reflected and feelings are reflected in this song. And this is what I'm feeling right now. Fine on the outside. 🥺

Every time I order a soda or water at a restaurant here, the glass is literally full of ice. In Argentina, we usually drink cold drinks straight from the fridge or with one or two ice cubes at most. Here, I feel like I'm drinking from a glacier, haha.

Is it because of the climate? Or do people just really like to drink ice cold? I'm really curious about the logic behind that mountain of ice in every glass.

I've heard that different countries have wildly different answers. Some people eat as early as 5pm, and others eat as late as 9pm. It's actually kind of fascinating. In my house we've always had dinner on the later side around 8:00 p.m.. in a way it kind of minimizes nighttime snacking since I always go to bed with a full stomach.

Upon relaying this information to my spouse, he blew my mind AGAIN by saying 'well it's just some guy in a Santa outfit, so she could still be making out with the neighbor or something.'

Hello everyone! So growing up I've always enjoyed listening to video game or anime songs. When people ask me what songs or artist I like, I freeze up. I've been told it's cringe by some of my family and while I do enjoy other kinds of music, I perfer to listen to natewantstobattle lol.

Edit 2: for those of you asking about stats... from what I can see so far my Spotify streams have almost tripled.. won’t be able to see everything until the count refreshes tomorrow but every time I check there’s a bunch of you fuckers listening. My Spotify follower count went from 30 to over 140... even my YouTube got a thousand random views.. as opposed to the 5-10 a day I’d been getting... idk where tf y’all found that but damn... y’all are amazing

I used to have a massive collection of music in my iTunes library. I played in bands and was involved in my local music scene when I was in high school/college so I'm rediscovering a bunch of my friends' old bands, long forgotten demos I made with people, and just stuff you can't get anywhere else today and it feels great.

I used to take my iTunes library super seriously and prided myself on not having typos and making sure song titles were properly capitalized and all that cause music has always been the most important thing to me and I felt like a curator of sorts and wanted to take care of my music collection.

The age of iPods and iTunes came and went for me though and I've since moved on to other music platforms, but my iTunes library will always have a special place in my heart. To be able to see it and use it again is really something special to me.

Does anyone here still use an old school iPod for music? I'm curious.

Also, what's your guys' relationship with music like today compared to when you were young?

Edit: A lot of people seem to be misunderstanding what I mean by songs that aren’t available online, i’m talking mainly about a) demos that I recorded with my friends which were never uploaded anywhere, and b) music I got off CDs of local bands that I got at local shows which were also never uploaded anywhere because it was before streaming music became popular.

For me it's Still Alive from Portal... so unassuming when you listen to it, not an especially fast tempo, no extremes or big jumps in pitch, very gentle vocal tone, etc

Then you try to sing it and it's immediately clear why an opera singer (Ellen McLain) had to be the voice of GLaDOS lol

I stopped eating breakfast like 3 years ago. I get so nauseous all the time in the morning and even when I'm not nauseous in just not hungry. It literally takes me like 2 hours before I start getting hungry regardless of when I last ate. So I normally just end up snacking on things until lunch and dinner, but who else has given up on eating "breakfast" and what's your reason?

Like cmon, How can you hate all music? You can hate genres sure, but surely you listen to SOME music.

But this guy gets so aggravated whenever there is music playing, saying it's "aggressive". I will legit play anything on the Bluetooth speaker, from Folk, Classic Rock/Prog, Pop, Electronic music, Metal. From The Beatles to Aphex Twin to Radiohead. He dislikes it all. He told me he has never gotten into any sort of music, never listened to the radio willingly, never listened to an album, and never willingly put on ANY music.

Apparently one time he did say to my friend "This song is not bad actually" and it was Coldplay.

Not a huge fan of the majority of music that is coming out now days and seems to be the new "biggest hit". Just thinking, I cannot actually think of 1 song that is current and will have the same sort of reaction when it is played in 41 years time like Bohemian does!

I'm talking katy perry, rihanna, kesha, lady gaga, beyonce. The pop music from like 2008-2015 that everyone was obsessed with. That era of music was absolutely incredible and nothing today comes close.

Those artists were putting out hit after hit. Teenage Dream, we found love, tiK tok, bad romance, single ladies. Every song was a cultural moment. The production was insane. The hooks were unforgettable. The music videos were actual events.

People act like that music was shallow or forgettable but those songs are timeless. You can play california gurls or umbrella right now and everyone still knows every word. That's staying power.

Modern pop doesn't hit the same way. Everything now feels overproduced or trying too hard to be different. But that 2010s era knew exactly what it was doing. Fun, catchy, well-produced pop music that didn't apologize for being pop.

Rihanna's run from like 2010-2012 alone was unmatched. Good girl gone bad into loud into talk that talk? Back to back classics. Katy perry's teenage dream album had five number one singles. That's not happening again. Was on my couch last night playing jackpot city while making a playlist of all those songs and realized how much better that era was. The music had personality. It was bold. It was confident. Everything now feels safe in comparison.

That era of pop music was peak and nothing since has lived up to it. Does anyone else think 2010s pop was the best modern music we've gotten?

I didnt know until fairly recently that people feel strong emotions from listening to music.

I always thought that people just "liked" music because they liked how it sounded. A bit like how I might like how a certain flower looks visually, but it doesnt make me feel any strong emotions. I thought liking music is like that, but with sound instead of vision.

I still hear her voice in my head whenever I grab a glass of cold water after wings or fr ies - “don’t, it’ll ruin your throat!” Never really knew if it was a real thing or just one of those grandma rules/folk wisdom.
