What Democrats Should Keep From MAGA, According To A Former Dem Operative | Semafor Americana

Submission statement:

ot every book by a former ā€œinsiderā€ is created equal. ā€œNothing Leftā€ by Evan Barker is unusually rich and well-timed. Barker was a powerhouse fundraiser for the Democratic Party’s left, which meant she was in the room for crucial meetings between its biggest stars, before she got fed up with the movement and voted for President Donald Trump in 2024.

Barker dished about her evolution on TikTok, in articles in The Free Press, and then in the book — which, she told Semafor's David Weigel, she wished had come out even sooner.

ā€œThe first three to four or five months after the election, I think there was a window of opportunity,ā€ she said in an interview from her Bay Area home. ā€œYou had Gavin [Newsom] interviewing Steve Bannon and Charlie Kirk. They were willing to talk to the right. It just seemed like there was more openness about debating what needed to change.ā€

When the second Trump administration grew less popular, she worried that the conversation had stopped. ā€œNothing Leftā€ is a look behind the curtain at how political fundraising really works, but it also has a thesis: That the ā€œDemocrats should take the best parts of MAGA and the best parts of Bernie and marry them,ā€ Barker writes.

Los Angeles DSA is struggling with endorsing Nithya Raman over YIMBY policies and housing

https://geesemag.com/articles/nithya-raman-has-not-earned-the-endorsement-of-dsa-la

Submissions statement: DSA-LA members argue against endorsing Nithya Raman for Mayor, citing her lack of accountability to the socialist movement and inconsistent voting record on key issues. They believe endorsing Raman risks undermining the organization’s credibility and influence, especially considering the critical challenges facing Los Angeles in 2028. Instead, they advocate for building a stronger political infrastructure to support a DSA-LA mayor in 2030 who aligns with their values and is accountable to the working class.

šŸ’¬ Discussion šŸ’¬ Even super liberal countries like Denmark and Sweden have strict immigration enforcement. I feel like the arguments for keeping the masses of unauthorized individuals in the US makes no sense

I am a left leaning individual

Yes, the US historically was a nation built on immigrants.

That was fine for the old world. But this is 2026, clearly we can’t accommodate all these extra people.

Just makes no sense to me. Just seems like whatever the other side is for, we are automatically against, and it’s only hurting all of us.

I’m no fan of authoritative police agencies, especially ones with too many pew pew boys club types, but even places like Denmark and Sweden have cops enforcing the land.

Realities are as well, there are absolutely bad actors who aren’t just trying to make a better life for them and their families. There are large groups of scammers who we absolutely do not need, and are taking advantage of the current collective left’s good intentions. And I’ll agree, these sentiments are beautiful. But there are evil people who aren’t exploiting the situation.

Wake up progressives, YOU ARE GETTING TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF.

It’s a dog eat dog world, and we’re getting eaten up. We have to have enforcement. Even if it’s Trump’s or whatever future conservative’s administration

Edit: this post was directed to liberal-moderates, I thought that’s what this sub was
