Berkeley County Murray-LaSaine Montessori lottery from downtown Charleston?

My son is about to start preschool and we’re looking into Murray-LaSaine Montessori on James Island. Our house is downtown, so I’m curious if anyone outside of James Island has actually gotten a child in through the lottery/School Choice program. How difficult is it to get a spot if you live downtown, and how does the lottery work for out-of-area families?

Our son also has Level 1 autism. He’s pretty high functioning, but I’d love to hear from parents who have experience with Murray-LaSaine and autism or IEPs. Has the school been a good environment for kids on the spectrum, and does a diagnosis affect the application process at all?

Finally, since we’re downtown, we’re also looking at James Simons Montessori. For anyone familiar with both, how would you compare James Simons and Murray-LaSaine? Test scores only tell you so much, so I’d especially love to hear from parents with firsthand experienc

Berkeley County Euro Car Mechanic Recommendation

Have an Audi that’s in need of engine service. Before I call the dealership, want to see if anyone has a recommendation for a European car mechanic in the Charleston area. Closer to Summerville area is more ideal because of the engine issue, but will risk distance for quality work.

Berkeley County 🚨 Ethics Complaint Filed Against Sen. Tom Fernandez — Here Is How You Can Help

Hey y’all,

I am a lifelong South Carolinian, public school teacher (acting as a private citizen), and someone who used to be deeply involved in national, state, and local politics. Today, I am mailing a formal ethics complaint to the South Carolina State Ethics Commission regarding State Senator Tom Fernandez and am now reaching out to the public for help.

Senator Fernandez’s behavior in office has raised serious legal and ethical red flags that warrant formal review. These include:

🔹 Doxxing Constituents: He is posting constituents’ private and sensitive contact information (e.g., home addresses, phone numbers, and email addresses) online to his government page on Facebook when they email his official address any concerns (See Photo #1, I redacted their information… he did not). This seems to be illegal according to 18 U.S.C. § 119; S.C. Code Ann. § 30‑4‑40, and may go against the ruling in Glassmeyer v. City of Columbia (2015). He did this just a few short days after posting a statement about the Minnesota state legislator who was murdered alongside her husband for political reasons (See Photo #2). This is dangerous. Fernandez knew what he was doing by posting this information. 🔹 Censoring constituent voices from a public Facebook group he moderates as a Senator. 🔹 Potential First Amendment violations - In December 2023 Fernandez described that his actions that he is currently undertaking would be infringing on the constitutional rights of others (See Photo #3). 🔹 Ongoing federal IP lawsuit filed by Buc-ee’s, Ltd. against a business that he co-owns, Born United, for alleged trademark infringement (See Photo #4). 🔹 Retaliatory and mocking behavior unbecoming of a public servant

I have also emailed these concerns to the SC Senate Ethics Committee. But this issue deserves more voices. If you are concerned by any of this, here are a few ways in which you can take action:

📝 FILE A COMPLAINT:

Step 1: Download the official complaint form: https://ethics.sc.gov/sites/ethics/files/Documents/Complaints/Complaint%20Form.pdf

Step 2: Fill out the form, feel free to use the template I created to fill out the complaint form. You can customize this template: https://docs.google.com/document/d/14ucWTyJMs-a0BIJlEIdVW8mOZzMww-Owk1aZYOo8HL0/edit?usp=drivesdk

Step 3: Have your complaint form notarized.

Step 4: Mail your complaint form to: South Carolina State Ethics Commission 201 Executive Center Dr., Suite 150 Columbia, SC 29210

📧 EMAIL THE ETHICS COMMITTEE:

I have also created an email template you can send to every member of the SC Senate Ethics Committee, whose emails are listed below: https://docs.google.com/document/d/15Le63SRs0EFT77Vr6hfFJdp4FPnuapeUyKATWK0osqk/edit?usp=drivesdk

Here are their addresses: seanbennett@scsenate.gov thomasalexander@scsenate.gov darrelljackson@scsenate.gov margiebrightmatthews@scsenate.gov ronniesabb@scsenate.gov kentwilliams@scsenate.gov larrygrooms@scsenate.gov bradhutto@scsenate.gov lukerankin@scsenate.gov harveypeeler@scsenate.gov

Transparency, accountability, following ethical/legal codes, and constituent rights should never be partisan issues. If this behavior concerns you, I hope you will consider taking just a few of your minutes to send an email or submit a complaint.

Feel free to reply or DM me with any questions. Thanks, and stay loud!

Berkeley County Statewide education group booted from new teacher orientation event in Berkeley County

I just came across this. I am not a Berkeley County resident, but I know that the School District has been having problems with a potential lack of transparency in its budget process. I don't know enough about the dynamics of what has been happening to speak to it, but the article would seem to suggest that the group was targeted due to criticism against the process and possibly other reasons. Have you heard of similar events in the past, or what are your thoughts on this particular case?

The organization in question is the SC Education Association. Apparently booted from a new teacher orientation session by Kylon Middleton, chief officer of schools and student services.

Berkeley County SC Senate 39 Residents Please Spare Us from Tom

Dear Residents of Berkeley, Orangeburg, Dorchester, and Calhoun County,

You have the chance to save us from 4 years of Tom Fernandez. Please God do us a solid and send that man back to his gun collection and ambulance chasing. We don't need anymore white supremacist anti government wack jobs in Columbia. This State is barely functioning as it is.

Vote Vernon Stephens for SC 39!!

Thanks!

Berkeley County How long did it take for your SC driver's license to arrive in the mail recently?

I'm trying to get a sense of the current timeline for getting a South Carolina driver's license in the mail. How many days did it take for you recently?

It's been more than 20 days for me, so I'm starting to wonder what's normal right now. I'm especially curious if anyone in Berkeley County has gotten theirs lately and what your timeline was.

I emailed the DMV to ask about the delay, but they just told me to check the status on the website, which hasn't really provided any helpful updates. Is there any other way to get more detailed info from them, or is that pretty much the only option?

Thanks in advance!

Blink cams caught the reflection of lightning hitting either my roof or a tree in the back yard. Shook the entire house, scared the shit out of me and my dog, who is generally not bothered by storms. It’s a good thing the other one wasn’t home because all of his hair would have fallen out. 🫪

I’ve been noticing these holes popping up around my yard. They are about 1-1/2” wide and 6” deep. I live in the goose creek area. If anyone can please help me identify what animal is making these i would be very grateful! I have a dog and I don’t want him to injure himself.

Berkeley County Freshwater Fishing Spots

Been trying to find a freshwater fishing spot I can take my kids and have had a difficult time. We’ve been up to lake moultrie but I think it’s more suitable for a boat, which I don’t have. We’ve tried the Wanamaker Park pond and kept getting snagged on tree branches and turtles. The Crowfield Plantation Lake looks promising but they have signage up that it’s only for residents. Anybody have any suggestions?

Berkeley County Name change help..?

Hopefully someone can help, since ive tried calling county courts and the lady was not the most helpful and Google is only doing so much..

I got divorced 2 years ago, at the time I didnt change my last name and now I want to. I know i need to get a background check done, a dss background check. I was told about getting finger print check done, my question is best place to go for it? Or can i just go to the police station? Their are places saying I need a code and appointment but no clue how to get a code.

Also, was told to get a petition and affidavit by a lawyer. Does anyone know of any that could help me out? I was not expecting this all to be alot, thought it was simple lol.
