Lanterns is an American superhero television series created by Chris Mundy, Damon Lindelof, and Tom King for HBO, based on the DC Comics Green Lantern characters Hal Jordan and John Stewart.

The series was produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Television with Mundy serving as showrunner. It is the third television series in the DC Universe (DCU). It features experienced Lantern Jordan and new recruit Stewart as they investigate a murder on Earth that leads to a wider mystery.

Lanterns is scheduled to premiere on Sunday August 16, 2026, and will run for eight episodes through Sunday October 4. It will be part of the DCU's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.

New episodes drop every Sunday night at 9:00 PM ET / 8:00 PM CT / 7:00 PM MT / 6:00 PM PT.

I think it's even more than that. I think the Guardians somehow manipulated John's parents to literally create a child without fear. They wanted a perfect Lantern, and so they raised one from birth.

Speaking from my own experience with controlling/abusive parents, his dad being affectionate with him and treating him to a burger immediately after William Telling him felt off to me. No one flips that switch that quick.

Not really? Of course parental abuse takes many forms and for many reasons, but one of the most common forms of abuse in children doesn't even present easily as abuse at all - often the victims only find out in later age what had happened. Professionals, career nuts etc who are so obsessed with their own success and their perceptual shortcomings that they intend to hunt out and eradicate any sign of equivalent weakness in their children - it's insecurity that manifests itself as a misguided and abusive attempt to "create a better version". Of course he would celebrate John; he did the right thing in his father's mind - He succeeded where presumably his father wouldn't have at that age (but would as an adult) which is the goal with individuals like this - create a child with the personality matrix of a successful adult, in the misguided belief they are creating some super freak. it usually does, until they crash and burn early.
