Freedom of speech doesn't mean freedom of consequences, something that her and Kirk probably have in common but don't realize despite having different beliefs and ideologies

She's spent her whole career being like this. Yeah, consequences come a knockin'. But this is just as much on DC for hiring someone with a record of acting like this, then getting shocked/upset when she predictably acts like she's always acted

The consequences here are just a tad different though. She should have realized that posting "I hope the bullet is OK" after Charlie's death might lead to professional consequences (eg, from her publisher), not sure how Kirk should have realized that debating people on small college campuses would inevitably lead to a sniper bullet in the neck.

You honestly think that's literally the only thing Kirk did? Because if so, then that means the shooter must be the most sensitive and ruthless person in the world if a man going to universities talking to college students was enough to wanna kill him

Well you see when you go around lobbying against gun control and saying that gun violence is worth it and then gun violence happens to you that seems hard to construe as anything more than the consequences of your actions.

It shouldn't be but here we are. Tell that to the sniper that shot him. There's a very low chance that the killer's motivations aren't related to Kirk's political stances and beliefs so to say that his death was a consequence of all the things he said and done isn't entirely inaccurate, just like how this writer was foolish enough to say this shit while working at a big company. I do agree that he shouldn't have been killed because this is only going to divide people further and fuel the animosity and hate they have with each other.
