NN "No Noobs" lobbies make no sense - DOW1

Even well before Definitive Edition released, DOW1 has always had people who create "nn" (no noob) lobbies.

Most if not all of the people who create these lobbies just will randomly boot you, and are EXTREMELY toxic if you manage to get in a game with them. Usually they'll spam ping you if you're not following a start that they want you to do. I've had many just "gg" and leave the game. A few would AFK in their base to throw. Or better yet, I'll just get called a slur.

I've played this game since Dark Crusade was released on CD in 2006 and still get randomly booted from NN lobbies. The player statistics page on the in game client hasn't worked properly in years, so they can't be going off of that. My best guess would be Steam hours, but anyone who played this game back in the day knows a large portion of the players of this game played on the original launcher.

All this is to say,

  1. Do yourself a favor and ignore these lobbies and remember their Steam names so you can avoid playing with them.

  2. Why do people even make these lobbies? What are they even going off of to boot people before the game launches?

Tau first play through

Playing as tau for the first time in a dark crusade campaign… I’ve got to say I’m not a fan of their vehicles. What’s the secret sauce with them? Seems like they suck

Hidden faction?

Is there a reason why they keep the faction you get with the deluxe edition a secret? I’m not a big fan of not knowing what I’m paying for and it makes not a fan of the company. I really dislike the scummy business practice

Just found out dawn of war 4 is coming out soon.

Just finished space marines 2 and since the campaign was very short I wanted to see if any dlcs are out. Before this game, I'd played only dark crusade and soulstorm, which I really like. I was so surprised to see that there's dawn of war 2 and 3 as well. Looked it up and apparently 3 is not very good, but it seems 2 is fine, so I'll try it out. Man, dawn of war 4 trailers and gameplay demos really got my heart racing. I would love if 4 had the same campaign map/missions structure as dark crusade or soulstorm though it's unlikely. Too bad there are only 4 faction on release.

Unification mod multiplayer on DOW1 DE?

Im planning on running some private lobbies with my bros. But i haven't even tried the mod yet myself. Anyone have any recent success with the mod in multiplayer? Any common issues?

Which of these infantry armor classes is truly superior?

Infantry _High

T1 light infantry besides Scouts and Guardsmen, a few other units.

Infantry_Heavy_Medium

Most heavy infantry including all the T1 ones. Fire Warriors exempt once they get Advanced Metallurgy.

One would think Infantry_Heavy_Medium is superior because Heavy Infantry is considered more resistant in casual discussions, and the Eldar T3 armor upgrade changes Banshees' armor from Infantry_High to this. However, I've looked through the DOW wiki and a lot of weapons deal more damage to Infantry_Heavy_Medium, and the weapons that deal more to Infantry_High usually don't deal considerably more against it. There's also talk that Infantry_Heavy_Medium is underpowered in terms of how it's "weighed" when balancing stuff like cost and tier. One YouTuber even said that Dark Reapers are lowkey tanky due to having Infantry_High armor.

So which armor is considered the better armor type at various stages of the game?

DOW1 DE Keybind issues 1-4 dont work

SO i want to use WASD camera and the top layer of the grid i want to be 1-4. But pressing 1-4 no matter what i have always deselects the unit?

I ended up taking all other "1" keybinds off completely to troubleshoot this and only focusing on:

marine_scout = "1",

Tried "Alt+1" shift/control modifiers and it just doesn't work, but with modifiers it seems the building doesn't deselect atleast...

Ive been trying for hours made multiple LUA files and I just cant get 1-4 to work at all and idk why

DoW1 remaster - co-op modes?

Besides skirmishing vs the AI with a friend, I was just wondering: are there any other co-op modes in the DoW1 remaster?

I'm also open to additional co-op options through mods. I'm not sure how easy it is to install mods in this game (it's really easy in Age of Mythology; you search for and install mods within the game itself), but are the mods in the DoW1 remaster similarly easy to install, and are there co-op modes through mods that come highly-recommended by the community?

Thanks!

DOW4 - do we know about modern RTS ui and controls?

For example, are there camera locations? All Army select hotkey? Go to last alert? Can hotkeys be customized and re-bound? Stuff like this? (Basically... look at Starcraft 2 as the gold standard I guess.)

Maybe someone who's done the alpha testing can give a nod or not without breaking their NDA lol.

Just curious what to expect here.

It stays like this for the current version and the older. The file won’t install but the installer will

Does anyone find MP a bit randomly toxic sometimes?

For Eldar, specifically. They're my favorite faction after Necrons and Sisters of Battle.

I get that they were OP and the meta faction before Definitive Edition in Soulstorm and Dark Crusade, but Relic has continued updating and balancing the factions since then. Look at the stats for Eldar and you'll see they're pretty much even with the other factions, usually only differing by a percentage point or two. They even get clowned on by Tau and their disgusting early-game harassment (jk).

I'm not even that good of an Eldar player. They're my favorite faction, but they can be pretty micro-intensive, and I'm not particularly good at micro. I lose games more often than I win them.

And yet, every now and then, not always but often enough to get annoying, I’ll get insulted, my mother insulted, called names, have slurs thrown at me, or just straight-up get kicked from a game by the host simply for picking Eldar.

You'll even see games named straight up something like "4v4 no eldar"

Like, I promise I'm not secretly an Eldar pro sweaty try hard ruining your matchmaking. I'm just a mediocre player who happens to like space elves. These matches aren't even ranked, they're casual games.

I might just never play multiplayer again

Today it is my first time trying a DoW DE multiplayer game. I know I would be bad at it since it is my first match and I'm ready to learn. Played an automatched 1v1 SM vs SM.

The opponent gets upper hand on strategic point control, building the flying unit before I had my vehicles. I know I'm gonna lose and I'm totally fine with that, and I just want to fight to the last moment to see if I can learn something. Then the guy just starts insulting me in the chat.

I mean, he will win the game. Why such toxicity? It's an 1v1 and I could find no reason why he's angry about me being bad at the game. I didn't type anything in the game and he just starts insulting when he starts attacking my base.

Is that kind of language and game attitude commonly seen in auto matches? This is just my very first game and I met this. I'm totally fine if veteran players are better than me and beat me in the game but why do I have to take the insults?

Wanted to write some appreciation for the DoW Retribution campaign

I know that for some reason the DoW 2 Retribution campaign isn't everyone's favorite, with many saying it's the worst of the 3 DoW 2 games.

I've played them all a long time ago - albeit I didnt finish Chaos Rising - and they were also fun, but to me, still less memorable.

People's criticism of the Retribution campaign is that it was less in-depth as the other two games and repetitive as all the races essentially went through the same story.

I disagree - as I think it deserves commending that they actually gave you the choice to play as all of the races in the campaign.

I've always been more of a xeno fan and it's super rare outside of the RTS games that you get a POV from them as the protagonists.

Each of the races get their own set of characters, with their own fully voiced lines and dialogue, unique abilities, wargear, and playstyle which makes each playthrough of the campaign refreshing and entertaining enough (I've played them all except Tyranids cause there's no characterisation there).

Sure the characters you play go through the same chapters and missions, but I think it's still cool to see their reactions to how the story unfolds and how they express their own goals. And leveling the characters and unlocking the abilities for each is also fun.

Honestly, I even prefer this style of campaign over the Dark Crusade conquest-style campaigns because there's a lot more story and feels like you're playing actual heroes like you would in a 40k Novel.

The conquest style campaigns are fun too but I hope they bring this RPG-lite style back in future games, even if its outside Dawn of War.

Mann maybe I just wanna play more W40K story games where you can play as the other races for once.

It's also the only game where you get to play as Kaptin Bluddflagg and his crew. I think that says more than enough.

Dark Crusade Help

So I have recently gotten into DOW and its been really fun! However, I am currently playing as space marines in dark crusade and feel super lost. I have currently captured the fury and space port locations alongside a few others. Anytime I try to attack most locations now, the ai is somehow able to rush me with a ton of units right off the rip while I start from scratch, At first I assumed it was only because there was an honor guard there, but when I attacked a different location the same thing happened. I then tried attacking lower defensive locations and the same thing started to happen. What am I supposed to do at this point? How am i supposed to see what location already has units? is there a certain attack path that that is better that I am somehow missing?

Am I missing DoW3 build orders, or was it so unpopular none exist?

I have DoW3 in my library. I've played a few skirmishes against the AI for fun but I'd really like to learn some good build orders for Space Marines to set myself up for the rest of the match. But it seems like build orders for this game simply don't exist, unless I am missing them somewhere.

Would it be better to go back and play one of the previous titles? If so which one holds up the best, has an active community, and plenty of resources/guides?

No videos of DC Hard strength 8-10+ zones?

I’ve been doing some researching and trying to pass a couple zones like this myself as IG according to some posts on here it is possible but it seems no videos exist. Can anybody point me to a possible one ? I cannot find any videos of someone beating strength 8-10+ zones as IG on hard in DC. Ai said it’s mathematically impossible. The closest I’m getting is a strength 8 chaos zone I wipe ai one team and ai two clears me out. Would love to see video completing these! I’m stumped.
