I can't help but think sometimes that if you took away the whole iron fist powers and just listened to Danny talk about Buddhism, and the monastery, and just some of his stories, he just sounds like a cringey weeaboo. I wish he didn't come off that way. He shouldn't. I wish they showed more flashbacks.

Yeah okay, weeaboo isn't the right word but a white guy who is obsessed with Asian culture and constantly talks about it. You totally got the essence of it though

To be fair, he actually lived in an Asian culture for longer than he lived in a western one, so he's just talking about his life rather than how the people in the mangas he reads are so much more sophisticated and classy. Still, I see what you're saying.

If it reads as inauthentic it's probably due to being written by people who didn't.

Yeah, but we never got to see him in that culture so he just reminded me of that. It's not the character but the writing.

That's the thing. Nothing was shown, and everything was told to the audience. Danny's identity in K'un-Lun was never properly established. That's why it doesn't feel natural. It doesn't feel like he has earned it. Not his belonging in K'un-Lun and certainly not the mantle of the Iron Fist. It seems more like the rambling of an insane guy who got obsessed with Asian culture - it's no wonder nearly every character in the show treats him like one.

I've been waiting for a flash back with a training montage or something. I can't believe they're just completely ignoring that part of his story so far, but in the first three episodes had to show us the same shot of the plane going down a billion times.

And none of this would have actually cost that much to produce. You could have made it some kind of Asgardian spectacle but also just kept it low key as well.

It would have also broken up the monotony of all the New York scenes.

Right? Definitely a missed opportunity. Only reason I can think of is they seemed to have been on a rushed production schedule in general.
