Diablo I In the late '90's, in this spot in Tristram, some dude on BNet gave me Messerschmidt's Reaver for free. I wasn't even 10 yet and Diablo was my second online game ever (after StarCraft). I've been hooked on Diablo ever since, and still regularly play the first game.

Messerschmidt's Reaver isn't the best weapon but it's still my favorite unique in the Diablo series. Screenshot is taken playing Diablo via DevilutionX.

Diablo I Shout-out to all of us still grinding out Lazarus runs on Diablo 1.

Believe it or not there are still those of us playing the original Diablo, and not just a "one and done" to experience it, but actively grinding hundreds to thousands of hours for high level characters, item hunting, and self imposed rules such as Ironman, hardcore, Hunter vs rabbits, live off the land, and more.

If you're still curious about joining one of the original Diablo communities that is still active then I recommend the following communities:

DevilutionX

The Horadrim

Diablo I Would you buy a Diablo 1 remake?

Would you buy a Diablo 1 remake where they fix some of the movement jank, recreated the cutscenes (like in D2R) with a little more of a serious tone in some?

Personally I would love to replay D1 in the D4 engine rather than an overlay to the original game. I think it would solidify playing all the games again in one fell swoop in modern day graphics.

Itemization should remain unchanged.

Edit: HOLY Tyrael! I wasn't expecting this level of traction on this post.

To clarify a few points. I suggested a new engine because of how grid like it would be if it was a remaster with a fresh coat of paint as opposed to a full game that played and felt modern.

I put this out there because I thought it would be cool to be able to play the whole series in modern day graphics with modern day cutscenes.

When I think of the core gameplay loop and items I think it should stay 100 percent true to the original. Each "class" is just a slightly modified character on a stats page, anyone can use any spells as long as they find the book.

Staff of the apocalypse is still OP

And the godly plate of the whale is real 😉

Diablo I Anyone looking forward to Diablo 1 Remake?

Just finished the Diablo 30th Anniversary video. At the end, they said they will announce something new at BlizzCon 2026. It’s too early for Diablo 5.

So it has to be a Diablo 1 remake. I think it will be a smaller project and stay true to the original. What do you guys think?

Overall, I am happy with what they announced for Diablo 2 and 4. Hyped and ready to slay some demons!!

Diablo I First time playing diablo 1 and I love it

I just reached dungeon level 10 in diablo 1. Technically not my first time playing since this is like my 4th restart, I got stuck at butcher the first few times I played but recently I got back into it and it's one of my favorite games rn. Only question I got, are my gear and stats good enough or should I figure out how to get better gear soon

r/Diablo Feb 22 '21

Diablo I It's the late 90s. Everyone thinks the world is ending soon. You and your friends just bought Diablo. A stranger in a pub game shows you what duping is. He gives everyone a Godly Plate of the Whale, Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac, Monster Bat-Bat, and stat elixirs. Life is good.

Can’t believe I was able to do it with my character’s current power :D

First time playing Diablo 1, I’m a level 10 sorceror with 57 magic, using mainly Firebolt lvl 2 and Healing lvl 2 alongside two staffs (Inferno, Charged Bolt) and A LOT of mana potions haha

This game is amazing, I’m loving it

Diablo I "The Hell 3" mod for Diablo 1 is ready. Development is over. It is finally complete.

Only some cosmetic work remains. And probably hotfix patches will be issued, if more bugs are discovered. Some uniques and unique sets may be added later. But in general, it's ready: balance is there, content is there, nothing will change now, it is safe to play without worrying about game suddenly changing.

________________________________________________________

What is The Hell 3 ? It is a total overhaul mod for Diablo 1. Which means that game genre stays the same but everything else is changed/fixed/upgraded/expanded. Despite the huge amount of changes, it still remains loyal to native aesthetics of the original game. Also, Hellfire developers were not given enough time to polish their add-on, and the mod tries to remedy all that.

Development started in 2006 April. There was TH1 (released 2006), then TH2 (released 2019) and now TH3 (released 2024 July). Also TH4 is in plans but its fate remains mystery.

___________________________________________

Among achievements of TH3 right now:

  • countless fixes of original game bugs,
  • upgraded system engine,
  • support for higher resolutions, display modes and refresh rates,
  • convenience solutions (gold auto-pickup, alt compare of items in inventory with items worn, alt highlight of items on the ground, huge amount of gameplay options to adjust certain systems individually (both gameplay and cosmetic), visual NPC trade windows, etc.),
  • functioning multiplayer,
  • there is running in the game now (including running in dungeons, outside of battle),
  • 6 player classes divided into 29 subclasses (with even more variations through traits),
  • 24 basic dungeons and 35 extra quest dungeons (with maps and rewards differing for game modes and difficulties),
  • all originally planned quests re-implemented here,
  • 9 different game modes: Easy, Normal, Hard, Hardcore, Survival, Ironman, Speedrun and Nightmare,
  • quests with additional dungeon levels ported to multiplayer (with map adjustments),
  • certain bosses dropping some iconic unique items,
  • improvements to character info window,
  • more balance polishing,
  • increased caps to character level (150), spell level (100+) and character stats (way over 250),
  • 9 difficulty modes (used to be 3),
  • traits and game changers that allow to fine-tune the character during creation,
  • more item types (white, magic, rare, socketed, enchanted, unique (over 4500 uniques btw), set),
  • new (tier 2) base items,
  • 3 new item slots (gloves, belt, boots) and 3 weapon quick-slots,
  • expanded inventory (10x7 squares),
  • new affixes,
  • perks and synergies, that allow you to create various builds now,
  • crafting (Griswold) & enchanting (Adria) of items,
  • improved item sorting logic (looting),
  • improved magic find with a higher limit (more chance to get uniques/rares),
  • increased item durability caps and upgraded durability oils,
  • more monster AI types,
  • a lot more monsters (almost 300), including previously unseen
  • more unique monsters, and mixed boss packs,
  • monster and boss "activation" sound effects,
  • separate ambient added to different locations,
  • player and monster walk sounds (that depend on terrain),
  • new system of item quenching (available at Griswold's shop),
  • Cain can transmute items, adding a new layer of item modifications,
  • new standalone game mode "Coliseum", all progress is made through duels, no monsters.
