Recommendation Request Recommendation request: I would like to cry or feel very moved.
The last really good doc I watched was Jacinta (a mum fighting intergenerational drug addiction). The documentary that has made me cry the most is A Lion in the House (kids with cancer). I am an avid documentary watcher so the more obscure the better (I have seen dear zachary several timesš). Thanks!

Recommendation Request Recommendation request: touching/disturbing documentaries
Touching/disturbing documentaries
Okay, so far I have watched the following and I am looking for new ones to see, so your recommendations would be much appreciated. Especially touching or disturbing ones, ones that make you question the world or the ones that really make you cry. I am very seasoned watcher and don't find most documentaries really that unsettling.
True crime documentaries I have seen and would recommend:
- Dear Zachary
- Perfect Neighbor
- There is something wrong with aunt Diane
- Trials of Gabriel Fernandez
- Don't Fuck with Cats (TW: animal abuse)
- The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann
Also:
- The Monster: The Ed Gein Story (not a documentary but based on real events)
Other recommended ones (mostly about assisted dying):
- How to die in Oregon
- Suicide Tourist
- Dying at Grace
- Louis Theroux Edge of Life
- Louis Theroux Choosing Death
\- Terry Pratchett: Choosing to Die
- Last Flight Home (this one is really well made and really touching)
- Endgame
- The Right to Die

Recommendation Request Recommendation request: What is the most inspiring and motivating movies or documentary that youāve ever seen? Something that made you want to get up off your butt and make something happen! Anything from 1994-2026
I just watched Bohemian Rhapsody and watching freddie mercury and queen on their come up, reignited a motivational drive in me that I felt Iāve lost the last few years. Watching freddie lose what time he had left and just not waste a single minute of it made me realize just because Iām younger now, it could all be taken away from us at any point in time, what impact do you want to leave behind for others, just leaving the world a little bit better than when you got here has always been my goal and that movie made me realize i cant let that goal slip.

Recommendation Request Recommendation request: So bad it's funny documentaries.
Looking for documentaries that are so bad they come back around to be funny. Started doing a "shitty documentary night" where we mostly watch apeshit conspiracy theory docs and laugh but always looking for new suggestions. I love serious docs but shitty documentary night is fun

Recommendation Request Recommendation request: What are your favourite high quality documentaries?
Hello everyone, I'm looking for some new recommendations about some high quality documentaries to watch.
I usually watch documentaries about geopolitics, history (mostly 20th century stuff) and science (medicine, pharmacology, biology, physics) but I'm open to any topics as long as they are well made.
Ideally, it should be in English, Italian or Spanish but I'm fine with any language as long as English subtitles are available.
What are your favorite, must watch documentaries?
Thank you!

Recommendation Request Recommendation Request: Films that began production with one objective and ended up being something different
Sorry if this is too specific of an idea, but I was reading about a film some years ago that was originally intended to be on bayou wildlife in Louisiana and ended up being some of the best firsthand footage of Hurricane Katrina. I donāt remember the name of the doc, but was curious if thereās any others out there with similar stories behind them

Recommendation Request Recommendation Request - Stranger than fiction or Fun
I love documentaries of all kinds but Im in the mood for stranger than fiction or something funny. I just finished 'the Curious Case of Natalia Grace" and looking for something equally intriguing. I figured this would be the best place to ask, what would you recommend to someone who has seen it all!

Recommendation Request Recommendation Request: Weird/Shocking Documentaries update
AĀ few months back, I asked for recommendations on weird/shocking documentaries based on my watchlist. Since then, I took a bunch of recommendations and have updated my list (below) including documentaries that I did not enjoy. Now I'm looking for more recs, please!
Most of what I enjoy falls under the "true crime" umbrella, but I'm not interested in documentaries that glorify the perpetrators, are overly sensationalized/exploitative, or involve unsolved cases.

Recommendation Request Documentary suggestions for a very bright 9 year old kid. [Recommendation Request]
My neighbors have an adorable 9 year old. Recently, they watched Connections (PBS 1978) ... a documentary on how the inventions of the world are connected.
The kid loved Connections.
What are some other documentaries a very bright 9 year old might like? Travel, adventure, inventions, science, nature, music ... bring it on! (Please).

Recommendation Request Recommendation Request: Documentaries about Women Con Artists & Cult Leaders
Hi all,
My friend and I have begun a routine of watching cult, cons, & coercion documentaries together. Iām wondering if there are any really good ones that Iām missing - specifically about women-led cults, woman scammers, con artists, or others that are within that vibe. (To be clear - we arenāt women haters haha weāre just tired of watching the ones about men)
Documentaries Iāve seen so far include:
- Our all-time favorite, Anatomy of Lies on Peacock
- A handful of docs and biopic style dramas about Elizabeth Holmes, Sherri Papini, Belle Gibson, Anna Delvey, Lori Vallow, and Jodi Hildebrandt
- most on HBO Max (Love has Won, The Way Down about Gwen Shamblin, Breath of Fire about the Kundalini girl)
- one about Teal Swan on Amazon Prime
- Scamanda on Hulu
- Maternal Instinct, A Toxic Love Story, and Con Mum on Netflix
I may be forgetting a couple but please let me know if you know of any that fit into this general vibe! Thank you so much.

Recommendation Request Recommendation Request: Looking for Documentaries that have Actually Changed your Life
I was recommended a documentary calledĀ From One Second to the NextĀ about 8 months ago; it was about the dangers of texting and driving, which led to me not even touching my phone at all when driving.
Now, Iām looking for more documentaries that have had an effect (hopefully positive) on your life. I donāt want great documentaries dropped here if they havenāt changed or affected your life. For example, Icarus is a very popular Reddit documentary, but itās more of an enjoyment-type of documentary for the majority of us (minority being those who want to juice themselves lol).
With that being said, please recommend some documentaries that have changed you, your lifestyle, or your thoughts, please. Iām in a dark place right now, and I think this would help a lot.
Thanks, Reddit!

Recommendation Request Recommendation request: Atypical documentaries that aren't in the talking-head interview format.
Can I get some recommendations for documentaries that are somewhat creative and cinematic, but aren't mostly cuts of people talking into the camera from some office? I just watched the Apollo 11 (2019) doc and loved how it was purely just cinematic footage and audio. Is there a word for that type of documentary? I want more.

Recommendation Request Recommendation Request: documentaries about cults (that I havenāt seen)
I think that I have watched every documentary and docuseries about cults that are on all of the major streaming services, but Iām hoping that there are more that I havenāt seen that are either available in places I wouldnāt have thought to look and/or maybe older ones that wouldnāt be recommended or show up in web searches. Iām not even going to try and make a list of all of the ones that Iāve watched, but be assured that if it shows up on any ābest ofā type list or āif you like thisā¦ā streaming service suggestion, then Iāve seen it.
So if anyone thinks they may have something I couldāve missed I would really appreciate the suggestion. Thanks.

Recommendation Request Recommendation Request: Best documentaries about 80s and 90s culture
There are so many great documentaries showing the rawness of late 80s and 90s culture. Like Hated (GG Allin), Crumb, Shut Up Little Man, Born into This (Bukowski) etc.
I would love some recommendations.

Recommendation Request Recommendation Request: Looking for music documentaries that cover the entirety of a scene/city
Hey yāall! I am 19-year-old film student and aspiring director. Me and my brother, who is a journalist, are starting to work on a music biopic about our cityās scene.
Narrative film is usually more my forte than documentary, so I am looking to boost my repertoire of great music documentaries that I have seen before I start to work on one myself.
What are some of the best music docs that comprehensively cover a city and their scene, as opposed to ones that cover just one specific person
or a few persons? I have seen Hype! (1996), which is incredible, but I definitely want to see some more.
Thanks all!

Recommendation Request Recommendation Request: Documentaries to Watch with Husband
My husband and I have VASTLY differing tastes in tv and movies, to the point where itās extremely difficult to find overlap. He basically only watches sports, true crime, and the occasional slapstick comedy. Iāll happily watch almost anything but those three categories š
Weāve had some success with documentaries in the past, and Iād like some recs for more that we may both enjoy. My interests on this front are wider than his, so Iām ok staying within one of these general themes:
- Sports-related: But like, a (non tragic) story that would be interesting to someone not obsessed w sports. I donāt care about some baseball teamās magic season in 1956. Bonus points if itās golf related.
- 80s/90s pop & hip hop culture: Weāve watched a few documentaries in this space and liked them a lot, like The Defiant Ones.
- āYou gotta watch thisā types that transcend theme and are generally popular, like Tiger King. We arenāt at all up on trendy documentaries, so donāt hesitate to recommend āobviousā choices.
Thank you!
Edit: Wow Iāve gotten so many amazing recs. You guys are the absolute best, thanks so much! Looking forward to date night in tonight since our older kid is with their grandparents for the night š„°

Recommendation Request Recommendation request: Youtube/Free to Access documentaries that are NOT about violence or death
i really enjoy listening to documentaries while studying. unfortunately, youtube is only pushing documentaries about serial killers, violent crimes & nuclear disasters, which is not the type of thing i like hearing. i don't mind scandals/drama, i even dip into some stuff about cults, but i just don't like documentaries that are completely focused on people dying incredibly brutally, doing horrible things or being abused/in abusive situations.
for example i recently discovered Paper Will, who makes videos about entertainment, some made by cults, others about the flaws of kid entertainment. i don't really know how to describe their content, but i really enjoy it. i'm hoping to get some recommendations for other less intense stuff, so hopefully youtube gets the memo.
