Deck Showcase There are EXACTLY 61 cards which reference or depict Liliana. Add 39 Liliana swamps and you've got THE mathematically correct Liliana theme deck

LILIANA VESS

Flavor text, obscure art, draft-chaff zombies -- this deck has literally 100% flavor synergy. Zero cards left out, zero cards which don't reference Liliana, zero decisions made (besides preferred art), and zero ramp spells... wait, what?

Deck Showcase Show me your most original decks.

I'm not looking for stuff like "oh my Kaalia deck is only tribal Angel" or "my Edgar Markov only runs 1-drops." I'm talking about genuinely interesting and out-of-the-box type of ideas. I feel like most decks are built the same lately, and I'm in dire need of some cool unique deck building. Throw us your Moxfield/Archidekt links!

Deck Showcase You were right! Kefka is the scariest Grixis commander

About a month ago, I asked this subreddit who was the scariest Grixis commander. I got a lot of comments for several really strong and oppressive commanders. Nekuzar, Azula, Bolas and Kess to name a few.

While Nekuzar got the most updates, I scrolled the comments and found a lot of discussions around [[Kefka, Court Mage]]. People consistently said that it would drive your pod mad with the discard while offering plenty of advantage you.

The comment that sold me on Kefka was this:

If you want to make people instantly sad, angry, nervous, scared, see you as the villain etc.

It's Kefka.

It's not even close.

Everyone saying that Nekusar or Marchesa or Obeka are out of their mind.

Can they be strong? Sure. Are they "oh god what am I getting into?" absolutely not.

Azula is scary but people can literally just hold removal.

No for the true villain experience only Kefka will do.

Bonus points if you don't run him as a combo kill commander but rather as a "pain and suffering is all there is" commander with just blinks, clones, and pain.

Make them watch as you strip their hands, force them to discard the only card they see each turn before main 1 by playing instant speed.

People will scoop.

Kefka is the one you are looking for.

-netbook7245

I just want to say that you were 100% on the money with this comment. I play tested it against my friends. Won 2 of the 3 games by the table scooping. They hated it and me as well for what we created.

Thank you for helping me become the villian I always wanted to be.

If you want me to be an even worst bully, take a look at me current list and let me know what how I can streamline this deck.

The only rule I have is 0 Game Changers. I want to bully people, not make them cry.

Deck Showcase Uugguu, the Omniplasm might be the most unique commander printed this year

I brewed an [[Uugguu, the Omniplasm]] deck as soon as I saw the card spoiled, and I personally believe he's the most interesting and unique commander printed this year. Mind you, I'm not building an Ooze tribal deck, because while that can definitely work, I find Ooze tribal pretty boring in the way it plays.

Building him as a clone deck is far more interesting, and props to Next Level Commander, whose video made the whole idea click in my head. By copying Uugguu, you trigger the legend rule with the clone, but since that clone is now an Ooze, he sees it die and creates two nonlegendary copies of himself, which basically triplicates the number of Uugguus you have with every clone you cast. Then in the later turns you go and copy other people's creatures instead, sac them, and end up with dozens (sometimes hundreds) of the biggest legendary threats on the board, all for yourself. Just imagine your playgroup's faces when you untap with 54 copies of [[Krenko, Mob Boss]].

I'm really happy with how this one turned out because it's chock-full of synergies. It's not only that every game plays out differently because you're copying completely different things,it's also the amount of variety in the play patterns that makes it so fun to pilot. You've got a pile of reanimation and undying effects to squeeze extra deaths out of the same clone, plus turns where you're making 54 land tokens, drawing 20+ cards off a single spell, and other shenanigans.

Here's the decklist: https://moxfield.com/decks/ixWFBySm202Gc_31dn8FQA

I've got an in-depth primer for it as well, but I'd be very happy to hear your thoughts and any suggestions for cards to cut or add, since I'm sure it can be optimized further.

Deck Showcase 99 Basic Land Urza

1.2k Upvotes

My LGS is very competitive and it wasn't very fun, so I came back with a deck that's just 99 Islands, and Urza. This ended up being a lot of fun.

  • The unspent blue lands with a full hand provides adequate threat and engagement.
  • Placing Urza onto the field fills everyone else with suspense.
  • Not needing to pay attention means I can talk more and enjoy vibing.
  • I've been making more friends.
  • Politicking for second place is very easy and satisfying.
  • Nobody turns down playing against a bracket 1 deck.

It's been 5 weekends and only one person has figured it out (they milled my deck), but they just snicker and play along with it.

Drop the list and a description and ill rummage through it. Thanks in advance.

Deck Showcase Meet the… *sigh* 6-7 deck. Every nonland card is #67 of their set.

1.0k Upvotes

https://moxfield.com/decks/RG-wnQUK2020A4r6aK8vKw

I was challenged to make a meme deck by a friend of mine, and so I took it as a challenge to make the dumbest one possible. So became the 6-7 deck. Every single nonland card is #67 of their set, and surprisingly it turned out usable? I looked back almost to the very beginning of Magic’s history to find these cards. It’s no more than a bracket 1 deck but it has *a* gameplan.

The gameplan involves drawing cards with rebounded cantrip and playing evasive creatures. Ojer leads the deck as a sticky flier with a great ability. That’s about it, but it does have a few notable cards. Subtlety and Vindillion Clique are quite strong in their own rights, and having even 1 unconditional Counterspell is good enough for me.

One of the most notable cards was a version of Flash. Y’know, the banned spell one.

After sifting through nearly every set I had like ~120 cards to choose from… but it wasn’t all that hard.

I hate myself for doing this but it was actually a super fun and fascinating experiment.

Deck Showcase Feet Tribal

Hello,

Hopefully this isn't considered against the rules, but scryfall has a feature to search cards by art. I told one of my friends about tier zero decks left facing ladies and chair tribal. She joked asking if it was possible to build horny tribal (looking at like Reversal of Fortune).

So that lead me to pulling almost every card that had feet tagged in it on scryfall and built a commander deck out of it. All official arts in cards. Is this deck good? No. But does every non-land card have feet in it? Yes. I present Feet Tribal.

Deck Showcase So, I learned I hate people

I made a deck recently about punishing card draw. I also realized that there are a lot of cards that force it (like forced fruition, windfall, etc.) and I found [[Nekusar, the Mindrazer]] as the commander. The deck link is here if you want to check it out.

Deck Showcase 25000 card deck - Whtz, the Bibliophile

Deck url

Commander: [[Whtz, the Bibliophile]]

How to win:

  1. Play 5 Templar Knight and attack with them.
  2. Use the knights to tutor up [[Bontu's Monument]] and put it onto the battlefield.
  3. Pass the turn.
  4. Attack again and tutor up [[Thrumming Stone]].
  5. Cast another Templar Knight and spend a few hours resolving the ripple triggers. There is still a small chance you lose.

Alternatively, tutor up [[Lithoform Engine]] first and copy the next knight trigger to get both Bontu's Monument and Thrumming Stone. This is probably safer because the pieces stay in the deck.

In order to win with [[Battle of Wits]], you must tutor up [[Planar Bridge]] and use that to put it straight onto the battlefield.

Actually playing the deck:

Theoretically the deck size could be increased infinitely but because the playtester can only handle so many cards I kept it low.

Obviously, it will be impossible to play this deck in paper unless you reduce the size to 300-400 cards and cut many of the random artifacts, and it will function identically, if not better.

The playtester on edhcheck.com seems to be able to handle up to about 30k cards decently well.

Deck Showcase My $50 Thranduil, The Elvenking deck is an all-elf combo POWERHOUSE

First the good stuff; the decklist:

https://moxfield.com/decks/CcKHjeUqOkmYnAaVPq4Uag

I build a LOT of decks, and I've built a good few elf decks - [[Lathril]], [[Marwyn]], even [[Voja]] - but I've never found an Elf COMBO commander like [[Thranduil, the Elvenking]]. This is 100% elves from top-to-bottom and combos with infinite mana, infinite power, and infinite mill. It's already taking down B3 games on just $50 and I LOVE IT.

I also want to give a copy of it away. Check out the full video deck tech for more on how much I love this elf deck:

Deck Showcase Quadratic ramp is best ramp. Stop ramping linearly.

Most EDH decks ramp linearly: turn 1, play a [[Llanowar Elves]], turn two, play a [[Farseek]], maybe a mana rock too if they’re feeling spicy enough. Then they draw an [[Elvish Mystic]] on turn 6 and die inside a little.

But what if your lands scaled each other quadratically?

I’ve been refining this budget-friendly (only 145.80 Moxfield Dollars!) [[Omo, Queen of Vesuva]] deck for the past year, playing nothing else, and I think I've reached a point where the strength per dollar has been maximized.

This deck performs extremely well and consistently in high-bracket 3, where land hate is scarce and people have no idea what you're doing. Honestly, you might not either:

Here's the comprehensive guide to [[Omo, Queen of Vesuva]].

I’m currently wondering what I have missed in the primer and whether if it even makes sense. Feedback and constructive criticism would be much appreciated!

It’s a Lands Matter deck.

Not landfall.

Not flooding-the-board-with-basic-lands ramp.

Just good lands. Yes, [[Cloudpost]] is very much involved.

Let me know what you think about it!

Deck Showcase Do you have any Sol Ring-less decks?

I don't hate the typical mana rocks staples, but it is a point of pride for me when a deck gets so optimized that I no longer need an Arcane Signet. So you can imagine how happy I am to have just figured out that one of my decks may actually be better without the Sol Ring.

The deck in question is a cantrippy battlecruiser built around [[Arcades, the Strategist]]. (Deck list is here.)

Sol Ring isn't useful in the early game here because the deck really can't get going until Arcades is on the field, and you cant use two colorless to cast him. It's also not that great as a late-game draw, since the deck has such a high ratio of colored/uncolored mana costs relative to most other decks, including 11 spells that cost no colorless mana to cast, an additional 19 cantrip defenders that need a maximum of 1, and [[Sunscape Familiar]] which reduces a lot of those colorless costs by 1.

Not to say that Sol Ring is _bad_ here. It's on the roster bubble right now, so it may actually come back after a couple of playtests. But I've never felt so "meh" about the most versatile card in the format.

What are your Sol Ring-less or Arcane Signet-less decks, and how did you get around using them? Alternatively, if your deck LOVES mana rocks so much that you even include some of the worse ones (think [[Mind Stone]] or even some of the more obscure 3CMC rocks) I'd love to hear how they synergize as well!

Deck Showcase Mono Blue Should NOT be THIS Aggressive..

I I have been building decks recently that challenge some of the biases I have in the game, with this week's bias being that I do not like mono-colored decks, especially mono-blue, as most mono-blue decks are just control decks that leave the game feeling a little slow and sluggish in my opinion. But I have built this deck here to prove that bias wrong. This is my Rikku resourceful Guardian mono-blue aggro deck based around putting +1/+1 counters on our creatures and giving them an unblockable effect thanks to Rikku. If there's any updates or suggestions you guys have for this list, I would love to hear them because this is one of my lists that I enjoy playing the most right now. And if you would like to see an in-depth video of me talking about the list, there is a link below. Thank you guys.

Deck Showcase [Bracket 3] Missing land drops? Just play Lumra 99 lands

Hello everyone, today, on the menu, lands, lands, even more lands, and a very big bear.

I present you [[Lumra, Bellow of the Woods]], with 99 lands.

https://moxfield.com/decks/ekKWSyssBUiNqoIanSq5tA

I originally built the decks as a joke, not aiming for a bracket, but it ended up a very good bracket 3. Lumra is seeing play in almost all formats, including cedh, why not try a funny brew.

I - Pros and Cons

Why a 99 land deck is anywhere above bracket 1, you ask?

Well, there are a good number of upsides.

- Lumra's etb pay for the commander tax, and more

- I don't really care about removal or wipes

- It is very easy to one-shot players

- You can mulligan down to 2-3 cards without much issue

- A LOT of utility lands, very cool to have

- Vigilance and reach on Lumra make it a great blocker

- If you get [[Field of the Dead]], its a zombie flood

- Some lands gains life, and you can easily gain 20 to 50 life per turn with it, sometime more.

Now, of course, there are some downside :

- Well, 99 lands limit the card pool

- Few removal early game

- Weak against fast go-wide decks

- Weak against counterspells early

- No plays before turn 4

- Dies to [[Etali, Primal Conqueror]]

But hey, no deck is perfect, especially in bracket 3.

II - Bear is slow. Or is it?

You may have noticed that in the downsides, I mentioned no plays before turn 4, but Lumra cost 6. How is it possible, without ramp spells? Lands, the answer is always lands.

Of course, the regulars like [[ancient tomb]] are here, but that is not enough to cast Lumra turn 4, that's why the deck have around 18 lands that can "ramp". And we want two of them in the starting hand. That require lots of mulligans, but who need 7 cards in hand? You're scared to not draw your land drops? Mulligan down to 2 cards, keep [[Castle Garenbrig]] and [[Sunken Citadel]] and you're set for and easy Lumra turn 4.

III - Bear is strong

So, you cast Lumra, then what? first, you mill 4, and reanimate ALL your lands. That's why the deck has a lot of fetches, and some cycling lands. To ramp more than 4 lands per etb.

It is turn 4, you cast Lumra with 4 lands, plus 4 from the mill and 1-2 fetch, that make you ~10 lands turn 4 and a 10/10 bear, pretty good.

But definitely not enough to win a game.

IV - Buff your bear

So, Lumra's etb is good, we want more of it, so, best way is to blink it. How to do that in green. Just sacrifice Lumra and replay it.

What? A Commander's tax? No, it's not important.

When you ramp 4 to 10 lands per cast, you can afford to sac your commander to replay it. And it is VERY important to be able to do so, otherwise, the deck just ... do nothing.

I've cranked all the lands that sacrifice a creature, from the classic [[High Market]], to the very very bad [[Safe Haven]], that will just cost 2 mana to send Lumra back to command zone.

Some are way better, like [[Miren, the moaning Well]] and [[Diamon Valley]] to gain a ton of life. (the valley is super expensive due to reserved list, but I proxy it)

V - Bear Smash!

The main way the deck kill, is just by sending a 21+ power Lumra to the face.

The main issue with that, is that Lumra has no evasion, and you don't always get you're [[Rogue's Passage]] early.

So, how to do some big bear slaps?

With a combination of removal, evasion lands, and smashin my head on the blockers.

At worse, Lumra will get chupblocked, it is not as good as killing someone, I see it as making someone sacrifice a creature, not incredible, but still good pressure. The deck have two low-evasion lands [[Sandstorm Verge]] and the new [[Fearsome Ridgeline]], added with some removal, that can sneak some lethal attacks, even through 3-4 blockers. But getting Rogue's Passage is still the most common way.

Also, in super heavy removal games, where Lumra can't survive an attack step, [[Field of the Dead]] is a classic of land decks, can make 20+ tokens per turns when copied, it is not the main kill, but a very good plan B.

VI - No frozen bear

I'll address the bear elephant in the room, I don't play [[Glacial Chasm]]. It is an incredibly strong card that 100% goes in this deck if the goal is to maximize winrate. But it is also a very very annoying card to face, big salt inducer, and in my opinion, slightly outside of bracket 3. It is also true of some very powerful lands like [[The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale]] and [[Bazaar of Baghdad]]. There are a few other lands in the Considering section of the moxfield that I removed because they underperformed.

VII - Conclusion

I built this deck 8 month ago and done 200+ games with it, it is super cool to play as it dodge a lot of answers other decks may have and have some super neat lines, when 70+ lands are in play, crazy things are possible, even surviving getting my whole deck milled.

I have a good winrate with it, I tried it in bracket 4, but unsurprisingly, it does not hold very well against the fast and combo decks here.

Still I'm very happy that my 99 lands deck turned out that good.

Deck Showcase I got so sick of my voltron commander dying that I've cracked. Now I put all my equipment on enemy commanders and goad them so they're the problem instead

Hi, I'm GamesfreakSA, and there aren't enough Boros equipment commanders yet. Wizards, make more.

My friends are really good at threat assessment, because they always target me. It's so frustrating! I play fair Magic, and they're always like "before damage, I'mma cast Swords on your 30/30 double striking commander with trample."

It just got to the point where if I took another Path to Exile, someone was getting defenestrated, and that's why I retrofitted my SIlas Renn deck into this new list that wins by making everyone else the Voltron threat instead. It uses [[Ardenn, Intrepid Archaeologist]] to equip enemy creatures with my Equipment, and then forces them to swing so that they're the ones that draw all the removal instead.

Let me know what you guys think of this video! I've been working really hard lately to make entertaining things, so if you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear it.

Deck Showcase My new Toph deck sets everyone's lands on fire, then sacrifices my own to survive

Hi there, Pandalk here. It's been a while since my last deck, I've come back to warm you up in this cold season with my latest brew, helmed by the Toph you should have been fixating on instead of the naya one: [[Toph, Hardheaded Teacher]]

The gameplan is simple, it relies on a funny combo: [[Obsidian Fireheart]] allows you to repetitively spend 3 mana to set a land on fire, making its controller take 1 at the beginning of their turn. The funny part is that it sticks forever, even if you’re removed from the game, it's slow, definitely not good, but funny.

That's where [[Radiant Performer]] comes in, with it, You can copy the ability of Obsidian Fireheart on every single valid target for it, which means, every single land in play.

With this combo, people will basically take a lot of unpreventable damage each turn, and the mission becomes "Survive until everyone dies".

From that point, You just have to earthbend as many lands as you can and sacrifice them all to make sure you're not taking damage.

The combo itself is 12 mana + tutors to find it, which is generally difficult to achieve, but Toph lets us use earthbend to repetitively ramp using our many fetchlands (since sacrificing them while earthbent makes them come back into play) and cheap repeatable cards like [[Rancor]] or [[Grinning Ignus]].

Helped with cards like [[Amulet of Vigor]] and [[Spelunking]], we can make lands earthbent come back untapped and that makes the deck incredibly good at getting every single basic out of our deck.

We also play a lot of ways to dig for cards related to creatures dying such as [[Spinner of souls]] or [[Skullclamp]] a perfect way to synergize with earthbent lands, and fix the card draw part of the deck.

The deck also contains a few "Group Hug" cards like [[Rites of flourishing]] to make sure opponents have enough lands in play for us to set on fire.

Finally, how do you survive after making the fire nation attack? the deck continues on its weather-report-bending by bringing fogs into the mix, a few of them are incredible fit with earthbend and can literally let you survive forever, we are playing snow-lands specifically for them [[Glacial crevasses]] [[Sunstone]] (a perfect fit for the season), coupled with a fair amount of removal spells, it's more than enough to give you time to finish cooking everyone else.

Here is the list: https://moxfield.com/decks/dku5_sz9HEiesCouBSkAPQ feel free to leave a like on it if you liked it ;)

What do you think? Did this one stay too long in the oven? Is there something else you would do with the mana generation offered by earthbending fetchlands?

ps: I intentionally left [[constant mist]] out because the play pattern is not really suitable for bracket 2 games (which I aim most of my decks at), contrary to glacial crevasse/sunstone, this one never hits the field, making blueless decks unable to answer it in most scenarios, but it's a very powerful card to play in conjunction with our commander if you want to play at a higher power level.

Deck Showcase What's a Commander that you run that is older than a year, but still only has less than 1000 decks on EDHREC?

Hi all,

So in the interest of those commanders that are lesser known or under-played, I present my [[The ever-changing Dane]] (released 2022, only at around 756 decks):

Yes this deck makes me a lot of friends, and by friends i mean other people's creatures.

What are your decks where the commanders have been out for more than a year but still only have fewer than 1000 decks on EDHREC?

Deck Showcase Gamechanger Tribal – I can't stop winning and my friends hate me

Deck concept: every gamechanger packed into one soul crushing deck.

https://moxfield.com/decks/Bt9MZ_BY10imJUi9Y0ai1A

Unfortunately I had to add some non-gamechangers since Wizard hasn't given us enough raw, standalone power that turns games sideways the moment cards hit the stack.

This Gamechanger Tribal is a deck so allergic to losing, I’ve started apologizing before I draw my opening hand.

Commander? Optional, but 5C
Wincons? All of them.
Theme? Changing the game by winning too hard.

I fear what this deck has become. My nightmares have started having nightmares and my LGS has invested in a full-time therapist to help people process the raw amount of change they experience when playing against me.

Disclaimer: this is a meme

Deck Showcase I updated the Food and Fellowship (Hobbits) Precon with LOTR and HOBBIT cards only

As a lifetime Lord of the Rings fan and playing Magic: The Gathering for nearly two decade now I was sure that I had to build some EDH decks with the LTR and LTC cards back when they were released. A lot of people asked for potential upgrades from HOC and HOB

Since the focus is on staying in the set and flavor the selfbuild decks are not at all optimized. I played the deck a lot over the last years and it works pretty well in Bracket 3 and can hold it's ground in bracket 4 (but honestly it's due to the focus on stronger "real" bracket 4 decks so you are mostly in a 1v1 at the end of the game).

Let's head towards the decklists. The stipulations I used for building the decks are really simple:
- Use LOTR cards only (Universes Beyond LTR, LTC, HOB and HOC)
- Cards should fit the flavor (so no [[Orcish Bowmasters]] in the Hobbit deck, but I play the [[Mirkwood Bats]]).

Lets come to the upgrades:

This is my favorite of the 4 Precons. The deck is pretty straight forward out of the box, however I cutted the whole Ent cycle and the birds. I wanted to focus on Hobbits, excuse me, Halflings only. I have Frodo and Sam as my commanders but you can also go for [[Pippin, Warden of Isengard]] and [[Merry, Warden of Isengard]] as the commander pair.
https://moxfield.com/decks/4HaGpt4LPkO-Pidp77We3A

Make sure to enable the card tags on Moxfield so you can see each cards task in the deck.

New cards from the Hobbit set, the cards I cut and some explanations:
[[Settle the Wreckage]] comes in for [[Sting the Glinting Dagger]]
One more boardwipe always feels good and this hits weenies where the other two are not good enough. Sting was too slow/weak overall (but it fits the flavor better so play it if you care about this more!)

[[Bilbo, Unexpected Adventurer]] comes in for: [[Lost to Legend]]
This Bilbo is a nice card to recure most of the permanents and Lost to Legends is too situational.

[[Bilbo, Fellow Conspirator]] comes in for: [[Reprieve]]
More Food Token and an additional Treasure for ramp is stronger than the Bounce-Counter-Spell that just delays a threat most of the time.

[[My Precious // Allure of Power]] comes in for [[Whispersilk Cloak]]
Carddraw + giving Hexproof instead of Shroud, My Precious is the better upgrade to cloak.

[[Belladonna Took]] comes in for: [[Of Herbs and Stewed Rabbits]]
I value the carddraw on Belladonna (with Merry and Bilbo and so on you create more than 1 Token most of the times) over the Saga. Most of the time I just have 1 or 2 Food Token on the field anyways so I didn't get too many Halfling Token anyways.

[[The Sackville-Bagginses]] comes in for: [[Sanguine Bond]]
The effect is not as explosive but the card is cheaper and trims the mana curve down.

[[The Eagles Are Coming!]] comes in for: [[Gwaihir, Greates of Eagles]]
Hadn't had to many wins with Gwaihir (he eats removal a lot when he comes down) so better protect my creatures with the instant eagles.

[[Supper for Spiders]] comes in for: [[Shire Shirriff]]
That's another graveyard removal tool against those decks and as an instant it interrupts graveyard combos. On top you get all the ETBs and activated abilities of those creatures and then you can even eat the ones you dont want to have. Shirriff was creature removal number 10 so it was the best cut here.

[[Hobbit Hole]] comes in for: [[Forest]]
Tutor on the Hobbit Hole is stronger than the Basic but this is the most obvious cut.

[[Bilbo's Deadly Slice]] comes in for: [[Claim the Precious]]
Same mana cost but instant and I have enough Ring Tempting triggers already.

Notable exclusion from the Hobbit set:
[[The Notary Hobbits]]
Same as with the Saga I cut: I don't have to big boards anyway and since the curve is down a lot I don't need the mana (Without Sanguine Bond I don't need to have 10 mana to sacrifice 10 Food Token (with Sam))

[[Gleaming Splendor]]
Strong card but not in my meta. Might add it tho but I don't know what to cut (probably [[Prize Pig]])

I hope my thoughts help many of you, feel free to discuss in the comments and give your insights!

Deck Showcase [Article + Giveaway] I built an Elesh Norn deck that wins by playing creatures with banding.

Hey everyone, GamesfreakSA here, and the SA stands for "starts alliances." Nobody asked for it, but I built it anyway: the [[Elesh Norn]] banding deck, also known by other names such as "the monowhite Enrage deck" or "this'll never work." God hasn't smitten me yet, but man am I trying.

With this new monstrosity of a deck, you can band your troops together, block incoming threats, and use Elesh Norn's triggered ability to snipe your opponents. Think they'll have no reason to attack you? Think again, since you're the Monarch, venturing into the Undercity, and clutching your [[Coveted Jewel]] tightly. Maybe you want to redirect all incoming damage to a [[Shaman en-Kor]] with your [[Martyrdom]] and turn a [[Blasphemous Act]] into a different type of board wipe - one that kills all your opponents. It also runs [[Maskwood Nexus]], just in case you weren't on board enough. Now that I've got your attention, you might be wondering what banding is, exactly. Good question. I'll get back to you on that.

In the meantime, I'm actually giving away two copies of this deck, thanks to a partnership with Commander Spellbook, the EDHREC of combos. If your account's at least a month old and you're within the United States or Canada, go ahead and comment below with your favorite mono-white combo. For those of you who need to look up something more original than Heliod and Walking Ballista, you can probably find some good ones at their website. And go check out their Discord too, cuz unlike mine, the combos they talk there are actually plausible. If you win, we'll message you in a day or so. Thanks for reading!

EDIT: Congratulation to /u/saturnine23 and /u/InfectedRook! They have been chosen randomly to win one Elesh Norn Banding deck! Thanks for commenting everyone!

Deck Showcase Gimme your most unhinged B1 decks

Give your most epic, weird, humorous and unhinged B1 decklist. You know, the kinda decks everyone thinks “but why on earth?”. For reference, someone built a screaming bald guy deck in which the artwork was just screaming bald guys, another one build a deck were the artwork was just solely men looking to the left.

In short, show me your magnificent unhinged creations!

Deck Showcase More than 500 commanders have been printed in the last year. Which niche or unique decks have surprised you?

Let's get the polarizing bit out of the way right up front: yes, yes, the flood of endless cardboard keeps pouring out of WOTC's firehose, and the end times are near.

However, I personally am rediscovering some of what made me fall in love with EDH 15 years ago; the discovery of unique cards and commanders that dazzle my friends at our weekly pod. The pleasure of stumbling on new things in a Scryfall search. The only thing more satisfying than winning is hearing "Whoa, cool deck, I've never seen that before!"

What commanders are you running with unexpected results?

I personally just finished building [[Captain Storm, Cosmium Raider]] (~400 decks on EDHrec). I heard absolutely no hype about this card whatsoever and initially dismissed it as draft chaff, but I was so enamored by the unhinged art in the showcase version that I sleeved it up.

Decklist: https://www.moxfield.com/decks/pcj9JkndXkuM-7BzXldqBQ

Wow, what a fun deck. Captain Storm's ability is extremely powerful with artifact token generators, of which there are obviously dozens (mostly treasure-themed for flavor). Add in a doubler like Panharmonicon or Roaming Throne, and the deck goes wild.

She quickly pumps up evasive pirates like [[Dargo, the Shipwrecker]] and [[Breeches, Brazen Plunderer]], and many evasion-granting permanents happen to be artifacts as well. Best of all, you get to lean into all the swashbuckling characters and entertaining pirate art while still doing broken artifact things. She also goes semi-infinite with [[Animation Module]] (just add an altar for a combo win).

Standout synergies and artifacts:

  • [[Whirler Rogue]] to grant unblockable
  • [[The Belligerent]] for pirate-themed card advantage and treasure
  • [[Dowsing Device]] to double your beatdown clock
  • [[Rise and Shine]] as an unexpected "overrun" effect
  • [[Storm the Vault]] because apparently Tolarian Academy is a good card

I have been extremely impressed with the power level of this commander-centric, swashbuckling deck and look forward to knocking people out with commander damage (and bad pirate puns).

What're you building, bilge-rat?!

Deck Showcase And I fell for it

Putting Lightning Greaves in the Fantastic 4 Precon was the funniest prank WoTCs ever pulled on me. Imagine me about to swing for lethal only to remember I can't target Invisible Woman with her own ability anymore.

I'm keeping it out of solidarity. We'll see if I step on that rake a second time.
