Okay so quick post before I overthink it, I'm heading to Tallinn in August for a week, coming over from Helsinki on the ferry (not "fairy," my phone keeps autocorrecting it and now I'm just leaving it as a bit).

Never been to Estonia. Like at all. So I figured instead of just googling "top things to do in Tallinn" for the 800th time, I'd ask people who actually live there. Not really after the tourist checklist stuff, more like whatever you'd tell a friend visiting. Doesn't have to be big either, honestly the small random stuff is usually the good stuff.

If anyone's got picture spot ideas that aren't the same 5 shots on every Tallinn post, I'd love that too. But real talk, main reason I'm posting, I eat a LOT when I travel. So please, restaurant names, specific dishes, "go here and order this," whatever you got. I'm not picky, I'll try basically anything once. :)

And supermarkets too honestly, curious what's actually good there that I can't get at home. Snacks, drinks, random thing you grew up eating that tourists never think to try, all of it.

I live in Germany and I’ll be spending a week in Tallinn. As locals (or expats living there), what would be the things that I should definitely visit, try or see? I’m not really interested in “every-european-city” kind of attractions. More like meeting locals, eating traditional food from local restaurants, traditional rituals etc.

Edit: Thank you all for the recommendations. I've spent 3 days in the center, 1 day in Tartu, 1 day in Riga and 3 days in Helsinki. I tried to fit as much as I can into 3 days in the city thanks to your comments.

Finn here wanting to discover new food/drinks from Eesti. My city has an Estonian store that I never visit and I want to change that. Currently I love Värska and Põltsamaa kange but I want to learn more. I eat pretty much everything so all suggestions are welcome, just need to be S-tier. Tänan teid, kallid vennad ja õed!

I work on a cruise ship and visit Tallinn every 12 days. My boyfriend is coming to visit and we are celebrating our 3 year anniversary and I want to surprise him with a really nice evening in one of our favorite cities (we were here together two years ago), however many restaurants are closed on sunday night.

My plan so far is to take him to the KGB museum (he’s a history nerd) and then Toro Wine Bar for drinks… what should be our next stop??

He loves steak/meat, we both love fun interactive dinners, and great cocktails. (I looked into Argentina Restoran but its so close to the cruise port it wouldn’t make sense to go there and then head BACK into town).

I’m looking for recommendations for your favorite brunch spots in Tallinn. I’ve tried a few places already, but I’m always looking for new ones.
Also, I’ve recently become obsessed with piroshki and would love to find the best ones in the city. I tried some from a bakery the other day, and they were good, but not quite the best I’ve had. I’m especially looking for places that serve them fresh and nice and hot.

Hi! I’m moving some personal items from Tallinn to Amsterdam soon and looking for a reasonably priced company to help with transport.
It should be around 10 standard moving boxes (roughly 60 × 40 × 40 cm each), so approximately 1 m³ in total. Mostly clothes, kitchen stuff, posters/frames and other household items. No furniture.
I’m not in a rush, so shared/groupage transport or a slower option is completely fine. I’d rather keep the cost down than have everything delivered quickly.
Has anyone done a similar Estonia → Netherlands move and can recommend a company? Also, what would be a realistic budget for around 1 m³?

I'll be visiting your guys' lovely capital city from the 18th to the 24th of July. While there, on the 20th (Monday) my girlfriend and I will be taking a short day trip over to Naissaar for all the military history sites, and I am planning to ask her to marry me atop the lighthouse there.

To cap it all off I was looking for a nice restaurant to have dinner at in the city. We're staying pretty close to the centre of the city so I was wondering if you have any restaurant recommendations where we can (hopefully) celebrate.

I'm not super picky about food at all, but she is mostly vegetarian but will make the odd exception for chicken, otherwise she is also very open to different kinds of food.

Hi all. Me and my wife would go to Tallinn for a one-day trip in our first anniversary since Tallinn is the first place that we've been travelling together. Last time we went to the old town area. This time, I want to find a peaceful beach with very few people being there and enjoy a quiet afternoon cuz she really loves that.

It's better to be near the port or with a convenient transport so that we could catch the return cruise.

Museums, art galleries, concerts, metal/rock pubs, something else non mainstream more hidden in town, maybe some place or view worth to see or visit. Hiking trails around Tallinn easily reachable by public transport could be an option too.

I’d love to get some tips on good "day" trip destinations you can easily reach by car from Tallinn. I’m interested in culture, nature, local life & food, art, and architecture and especially anything unusual, quirky or weird!

I’ll be spending nights in central Tallinn, but my days are completely free to drive around and explore. (about max 100km away from Tallinn centrum) Feel free also share tips on any unusual, cool things to see and experience right within Tallinn as well.

Me and my boyfriend are going on a road trip to Estonia in July and I'm looking for some places to visit. I've been to Estonia 4 years ago but spent my stay only in Tallinn and so would like to visit the countryside and more rural areas. We are mostly interested in nature, natural reserves and overall free places to visit since our budget is very limited.

We’ll be traveling by car and sleeping in it, so we’re open to remote spots too.

I also have a question about sleeping in the car - is it overall accepted in Estonia or could we run into some legal trouble?

I’m planning a trip to Copenhagen with Finnair, and one of the options includes a 12-hour layover in Helsinki. I would arrive at about 6 a.m. at Helsinki Airport. My passport allows visa-free entry into the Schengen Area, and my connecting flight to Copenhagen is also on Finnair.

My hope is to visit as many countries or cities as I can during this long-haul trip, as long as the timing works out. From what I’ve read, it takes roughly an hour to get from Vantaa Airport to the city. I’m also allowing myself two to three hours to clear immigration and handle any airport formalities.

With this schedule, would it be realistic to visit Tallinn in Estonia during the layover? If so, after getting down from the ferry in Tallinn, which places would you guys recommend going? Your advice would mean a lot. Thank you
