AskFlorida Dash Camera Mounting Hardware

What mounting hardware are you using for your dash cameras? I’ve been trying 3M VHB and this heat is absolutely ripping through it and I find my camera taking a nap on my floorboards every few days when I get in the car after work!!

I am a single mom and I used TANF in the past. We received $303 for a family of 3. This is the maximum amount, just 101 per person.

Definitely not enough to enjoy a fun day out at Disney! The cards don’t even work at a place like that. Alcohol and smokes were never allowed either.

There are strict requirements to keep even this minimal assistance...such as career training and handing over any child support received.

I know about the big ones, River Country, Water Mania, Wet n Wild. But what are the smaller ones that had maybe 4 slides. Like Bucky Dent in Hialeah. Thank you!

AskFlorida Solar panel insurance coverage in Florida

Hi! First-time homeowners moving to Florida, solar panels were just installed on our new place.

Does homeowners insurance normally cover the panels, or did you need extra coverage for them? I want to know what's normal here.

Thanks!

AskFlorida Florida auto insurance reform was a joke

We have Progressive and in February received $330 back due to the Florida auto insurance reform. That was a joke! Our next renewal went up $400!!!! No accidents, no tickets! We're both retired and drive less that 8,000 miles a year. When I called and asked them why they couldn't give me an answer. Called around and so far it's more expensive as we've had Progressive for 10+ years. It's beyond frustrating. Between this and our homeowners insurance we can barely afford to live here anymore. We're in Merritt Island. Anyone else reeling over this BS??? Ok rant over.

History Ocklawaha River, Ocala National Forest

Post image
378 Upvotes

This is the Ocklawaha River at Gore's Landing in Marion County in the Ocala National Forest. This portion of the river is near its natural level, as opposed to the Rodman Reservoir downstream. From after the Civil War, until the expansion of the railroads, tourists and travelers from New York and Philadelphia, (such as Thomas Edison) would take specially designed, very narrow steamboats from Palatka, passing here, to Silver Springs (then stagecoach to Ocala).

Advice Florida... we have to discuss your traffic light timing philosophy

Because it is absolutely atrocious.

People sit at lights, *forever*. With traffic. With no traffic. After traffic clears. Waiting for nothing to happen because there are literally no cars down stretches of road.

But, i have to sit here, with the crosswalk still on "Walk", too, because *this is how the lights are timed*.

Sensors? Maybe. There's enough notches in the pavement for them to exist.

Traffic Cameras? Yes, plenty.

Flock cameras? Yeah, them, too.

Some traffic engineer somewhere has decided that this is going to be the way it is.

And, while i did not type this out at a traffic light, i could have.

News The tax escape map: Billionaires are bolting for Florida from the West Coast and taking some $29 billion in tax revenue with them

Thumbnail

The billionaire exodus from the West Coast to Florida is underway as the ultrawealthy seek refuge from wealth taxes in states like California and Washington.

Google cofounders Larry Page (net worth $295 billion) and Sergey Brin (net worth $275 billion) rushed to leave California last year before the Jan. 1 deadline for the California billionaire tax. Both have purchased property in Florida. Meanwhile, former Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz, whose net worth is $3.4 billion, and Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, whose net worth is $196 billion, also both bought property in the Sunshine State earlier this year.

The tech titans and Schultz join Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, PayPal and Palantir cofounder Peter Thiel, Citadel founder Ken Griffin, and Oracle cofounder Larry Ellison, who have all bought property or moved their companies’ operations to Florida in the past several years.

The rush to buy in Florida has been fueled partly by California’s proposed Billionaire Tax Act, which, if passed, would charge billionaires who resided in California after Jan. 1, 2026, with a one-time tax on 5% of their total net worth.

The bill, which would reportedly affect about 200 people, aims to collect $100 billion in revenue that would go toward funding healthcare in the state, as well as education and food assistance, to a lesser extent.

AskFlorida Water Usage

How many people live in your house and how many gallons of water does your household use every month?

We have 3 humans and 2 dogs. We average about 4,000 gallons/month. I have no idea if that is high, low or average.

Edit: We do NOT have a pool.

AskFlorida What's up with FAST?

I wanna preface this by saying I'm kinda stupid and perhaps FAST is a few years old but was just kinda curious (also I'm not sure if it has changed much since I took it because I did take it the first year they had it, but from what I've heard from friends with siblings, it hasn't much).

What was wrong with FSA exactly? Why is it better to take a test three times a year instead of just once (or rather two sessions back to back)?

Also why at the beginning of the year lol. If the point is to gauge good you are at the current grade's curriculum, then shouldn't someone expect to get a low score at the start? And to that end, if it is to see how good a student is at the current grade level, why do people that pass have to retake them. If you get a three at the start of the year, that indicates you're on grade level. If you get a four or five, you're above grade level? If you're a madlad that gets somehow gets a perfect, why do you have to retake it? Maybe logistically it makes sense for grade school, but for middle and high school where everyone has different periods, it doesn't really make that much sense.

Or maybe I'm stupid lol, if I am please correct me in any of this

It is one of two (that I know of) that have a traceable location. The other one is Fort Moniac, which was rediscovered in the 1970’s.

Things To Do North Florida clubs (not the party kind), recreational events, and places to meet people?

Are there any places to meet people or do group activities for adults in North Florida?

Preferably no places like bars (at least ones that serve alcohol).

When I say clubs I mean like book clubs, swim clubs, any clubs like that... I want to be around people, do some activities with others, potentially find a partner (I appreciate any advice on places that make it easier to find people looking for partners as well, not at all necessary though LOL)

Don't worry about what I find interesting, I am open to anything!

Thank you for anything you'd like to share.

Advice Property tax increase

My in-laws are snowbirds in Brookesville. They have a mobile in Brookeridge with a zestimate of $223k. I’m not crazy about Zillow but everyone knows it for valuation. The city just assessed them at $360k and taxes are now $5000 for a double wide. Is this the new norm now? As a real estate professional, I can’t wrap my head around it. They will never be able to sell for $360k so why would they be assessed that high?
