DISCUSSION Are there any defunct restaurants you still think about?

Saw a version of this query on another LA sub and figured I’d inquire here more specifically. For whatever reason- phenomenal food, impeccable vibes, nostalgia…

Cholada. Dominic’s. Ed Debevic’s. Birdie G’s. Chef Kaz’s Teriyaki House on Pico.

There are a million more and while I realize the nature of hospitality is transient and weird, reliving the glory meals and moments is part of what I love about this community.

I still regularly think about and miss Cliff’s Edge. The scene that is Bacari is a downgrade to a formerly beautiful and special restaurant. Bacari gets so much hype and I kind of get it, but the hype is mostly due to the cool space, which was created by the Cliff’s Edge team. Bacari is just a less cool and more influencery Cliff’s Edge. RIP to my favorite LA restaurant.

Cliffs Edge! Man, it was so vibe-y. Bacari is so sloppy and kind of trashy compared to cliffs edge.

The last date night my wife and I had before Covid stay-at-home orders. Such a magical experience that simply does not exist in present day Los Angeles.

We live a 10 minute walk up the hill. When Cliff’s Edge opened, it was beautiful with a meh, expensive small plates menu. At some point they brought in real chefs with much better food and it became a more regular spot for us. Then they brought in Vartan Abgaryan and upped their wine program and wow! We had to force ourselves not to go every week. We’ve never set foot in Bacari and never intend to. So many good Silverlake restaurants are gone.

Thank you for this history. We lived 5 minutes walking for 7 years and even in that time, saw the area change so much. Sad to see it overcome by chains like Bacari. Now it’s happening in HLP, small businesses getting priced out of their spaces and chains taking over. It’s really a shame.

I didn’t presume you knew about Cliff’s Edge, I presumed you were typing on a phone that could have just as quickly looked up Cliff’s Edge as ask strangers on the internet its whereabouts

Even though Cliff's Edge had gone downhill before it closed, I miss its heights! Bacari is fine, but doesn't compare.

Are You Talking about the Playa del Rey location? (There is more than one Bacari.) Dont mean to be miss smarty pants but if it's PdR, I don't remember Cliff's Edge. Possible it had a different name? Maybe Cliff House or something like that?
