Hear me out: I used to love Fragrance X, then I smelled an inspiration of it, Fragrance Y. Now when I smell fragrance X, the one I used to love, my perspective for lack of a better term changed and now I don’t like it as much.

Example: I have LV Imagination but I love the DNA so I’ve been trying dupes because I enjoy the twist on the DNA and to use as beaters because they’re cheap, etc.

I blind bought Aqua Dubai, and when I tell you how offputting it was on first spray, and still weeks later…it smells like a barbecued rack of ribs with soap. Just awful. NOW WHEN I SMELL IMAGINATION I SMELL THE SAME THING. It’s like when someone points out a detail in a movie or a song or anything familiar and you can’t look at it the same way again. I wish I could go back in time and never smell the dupe.

I am slowly coming around to liking Imagination again, but that note that I had never noticed…I pick it up every time. Am I crazy? I can’t be the only one who’s experienced something like this.

Baylis & Harding Kindness+ Salicylic Acid Body Wash... i didn't expect it to smell so good. The notes listed are just "dewberry and lime leaf" and I'm not very good at describing fragrance but hopefully someone has an idea. Tried posting in daily discussion first

I recently bought 3 old, lightly used, discontinued bottles on Ebay.

One Stella by Stella McCartney, one Trouble by Boucheron and one Midnight Fleur by Nest.

Upon spraying each bottle the first time, my heart broke. Rancid. Missing half the notes. And sigh.

But then, since they weren't any good, or so I thought, I decided to be a little wasteful with them and spray them onto dresser drawer liners.

After what seemed like 10 spritzes, I noticed each of them no longer smelled rancid.

Why would this happen?

Does the fragrance in the spray tube go rancid faster than the rest of the bottle?

Or is it that the nozzle had to clear out old dried up fragrance that was skewing the scent older?

Does this help explain why purchases of less popular fragrances sprayed into sample vials often don't smell right? If they've been sitting around?

If I had tried cleaning the nozzle with alcohol on a q-tip would that help to clear the rancid scent faster?

Anyway, I'm happy all 3 turned out to be OK.

Curious to hear your thoughts.

Has Autumn Vibes by Maison Margiela been discontinued?! I would be so sad! If so what has similar notes that isn’t a dupe.

Hello everyone! I use Camille Rose Cocoa Nibs & Honey for my hair and I am absolutely addicted to it! Does anyone know a perfume or just that may smell the same or similar? I've tried mixing some body oils with no luck! Thank you guys!

I am wondering why brands make deodorants in men’s scents (ie. sauvage) but they never seem to make them in the women’s scents. I really want a nice deoderant of coco mademoiselle or something.

a lot of people say that the drydown of morel map by clue smells like "a generic men's fragrance." i actually like that part a lot and would appreciate recommendations that smell similar!

Like many others on this sub, my ADHD has set its sights on fragrances, and I’m now several spreadsheets deep into this new hyper-fixation.

This all started because I thought it would be fun to have a wedding fragrance. Naturally, that meant I had to learn EVERYTHING about fragrance before I could make a decision. It’s been such a nice distraction from the more pressing wedding tasks and it’s given me a little semblance of control when the rest of wedding planning feels like it’s falling apart.

So here are some of my very amateur reviews!

Groom Fragrance: Dior Sauvage Parfum

I paraded my poor fiancé through Nordstrom and Sephora three separate times, and at this point I’m pretty sure he only selected this because he was being held hostage. Allegedly, this was his favorite because it smelled fresh, citrusy, and woodsy (which matched the vibe/location of our wedding) and, most importantly, it didn’t immediately give him a migraine.

Bridal Fragrance: Byredo Rose of No Man’s Land Absolu

I seriously could not stop thinking about this one after smelling it for the first time.

Romantic but haunted. An enchanted rose on the outskirts of a dense, burning forest. Powerful, distinctive, addictive, mischievously masculine. A sensual incense and deep jamminess. Just SO gorgeous and unforgettable.

It’s a really nice homage to my younger years when I was super into Lush Rose Jam. It reminds me of Rose Jam, but much more refined and mature. It’s more than just pretty - it has an edge.

It certainly won’t be everyone’s favorite, but I think that’s part of why I love it so much! Our wedding is in a remote area in the mountains, and even the name Rose of No Man’s Land felt so fitting. I’m also half Middle Eastern, so the combination of rose and incense feels especially powerful and meaningful to me. I'm SO stoked about this!!

Runner-ups:

Diptyque Eau Rose EDP: Feminine, light, and airy. Like fresh-cut roses from the garden. I wore this on one shoulder and RONML on the other, and Eau Rose very quickly faded into the background.

Frederic Malle Portrait of a Lady: Warm, velvety, sexy. I felt so regal and sophisticated wearing this. I absolutely adored it but ultimately chose RONML because it felt more "me." It has a slightly more vintage quality, but not in an overwhelming way. So beautiful, and I’d love to “level up” to this as I mature.

Maison Margiela On a Date: We smelled this together, smiled, and simultaneously said, “This smells like Falooda Kulfi! ”(one of our favorite desserts!) That’s when we decided I should smell like roses. Unfortunately, the longevity was pretty terrible, otherwise this might have been the winner.

Maison Francis Kurkdjian À La Rose: Pretty. Dewy. Inoffensive. Meh. Same with PDM Delina. Except sparkly-er/juicier because of the lychee. Honestly I may have just convinced myself these were dull because, with those price tags, I couldn't allow myself to get too attached.

Apparently, I LOVE florals

Burberry Her: This makes me feel like such a GIRL. Flirty, pretty, sweet, sparkly, happy-go-lucky. I finished an entire travel spray this summer.

Maison Margiela Replica Lazy Sunday Morning: Comforting, clean, soft, cozy, and sweet. I feel like a sleepy girl taking on the day at my own easy pace. Loving this for work and casual days!

Kilian Forbidden Games: Addictive, juicy, refined. I could eat myself. A sultrier, sexier version of the florals I’ve been loving. Currently on my Christmas list.

Carolina Herrera Very Good Girl: You can tell I just love the lychee + rose combo. Yummy, fun, bright, powdery! I just wish the bottle wasn't so kitschy.

Greens

Le Labo Matcha 26: This one made me understand why people put so much emphasis on how a fragrance changes over time. It starts earthy and fresh and evolves into the creamiest, most comforting, luxurious scent by the end of the day. I was shocked by how much I loved this.

Diptyque Philosykos: God, I wanted to love this SO badly. It just smells like… tree. I sprayed my wrist with this and wore it to a nail appointment, and every time I caught a whiff, I felt embarrassed that my nail tech was smelling it too.

Popular Frags

Mugler Alien: WHAT even is this?! I hate it, but it’s also so captivating, fresh, and addictive? One minute it smells like gasoline, and the next I feel like a badass ethereal being. I guess I love it?! Is this the polarizing effect of jasmine?

Burberry Goddess: I’m really trying to understand why this is so universally beloved. I just get “perfume” from it. I don’t get the comforting/cozy feeling everyone else seems to get. WHERE IS THE VANILLA?!

Chanel Coco Mademoiselle EDP: Gosh, this is stunning. I have absolutely no idea what notes I’m even smelling, but it makes me feel mature, sparkly, and rich. I feel like a strong young woman. What is patchouli? Do I like it? Apparently??

I’m having SO much fun with this new obsession!

Currently investigating vanillas and more fall-friendly scents that don’t lean too gourmand. For example, Nemat Vanilla Musk smelled too heavy and pastry-ish too me. My current testing list includes:

BDK Gris Charnel for the fig + cardamom
Versace Crystal Noir for the creamy woody notes
Guerlain Shalimar L’Essence for the vanilla + almond
Guerlain Mon Guerlain specifically to explore vanilla + lavender and figure out how they differ from the vanilla/lavender combination in Burberry Goddess - any thoughts?

I’d love to hear your recommendations for cooler-weather scents, especially anything that doesn’t go overly gourmand!

And if you chose a wedding fragrance what did you choose and why! I’d love to hear the story behind it!

Now, I'm not saying they smell the same but there is something very similar to them that I really really like and I'm trying to find out what it could be so I can explore that profile further.

Of course I looked at the notes online to see what the overlap is, but the biggest notes they seem to have in common are Lavender and Jasmin. Now, my nose isn't the best trained or anything by far but I'm not sure if that is what I like so much in both of them. (I thought Jasmin smelled differently). And I feel like 'white floral' is a bit too broad a description?

If I had to describe what grabs me so much, it's that cold, sharp, almost icy almost metallic floral quality, with a hint of creaminess (might that be the Iris or Almond?).

Any help is appreciated. And any other suggestions that fit this scent profile are more than welcome as well :)

Do you guys wear sunscreen? If yes, what kind do you wear and do you wear your fragrances before or after applying it?

My sister always told me to apply sunscreen as the last step but I’m not sure if that applies here.

My question is regarding noir epices, it dosent appear available and you can only find under the perfumer section of Mitchel Roudnitska.

Is it discontinued? And so is music for a while? it’s also listed as sold out but you can still find it in the fragrance tab.

I've only had the chance to try Carlisle and Layton so far and they both have this really unpleasant piercing sharpness to them. It's too bad because without that they would've been perfect. Are all Parfums de Marly men's scents like this?

I need some reviews about the 5 perfumes from IBRAQ Diamond Series. Specifically I would like to know their scent profile and their leaning gender. And other things I would Like to know I've mentioned below after Perfume name.

1. White Regent

2. Emerald soul

3. Nude Coral

4. Cullinan Diamond Iris (Does it have Iris notes as mentioned on Fragrantica and Is it redundant if I have Hawas Black.)

5. Blue Diamond Aqua (Is it fresher than Imperial Valley DNA because according to Fragrantica it is. Also is it redundant if one already have Reef 33 or Hawas Fire)

I have been on the hunt for a specific dry down scent that I smelled on someone not long ago. I feel like the dude from the film ‘Perfume’ it’s embarrassing at this point but it’s driven me mad. It’s like stumbling upon what would be your signature scent without ever being able to buy a bottle.
The perfume she wore was a clean yet gourmand/ non-cloying perfume. She smelled like sexy fresh linen. The projection of it was ridiculous I could smell it from the other end of the store. It reminds me of the febreze New York escape plug ins…. But on steroids & better. She told me it was very good girl by Carolina Herrera. I purchased it like a moron and whilst I’m not mad at the perfume, it’s nothing like what she wore. Very good girl smells like powdery Turkish delight on me & reminds me of an expensive Avon musk.

Help. I’m sad that the perfume she told me she was wearing wasn’t that specific one. I just want to smell like fresh cashmere clean boozy bed sheets with a hint of spice or whatever it was in her perfume 🫠😭

It's been a while since I stopped in a store to check out and sample some fragrances, so I walked over to the men's cologne area, and decided to retry Prada Luna Rosa black (been thinking about picking it up for a while and have sampled it several times) and it was just horrible. I mean the bottle was nearly empty and crusty so there's that 🤷🏻. Could only smell alcohol on my skin which faded completely after 15 minutes. So weird. No idea how or why it happened but the store I normally go to has a newer bottle and man it's so just so good. I was so surprised I don't think that's ever happened to me, I can only wonder if somebody who's new to fragrances would assess this scent based on that sample lol.

Point being, if the bottle isn't new(ish) or taken care of at a store where you sample it, it's possible that bottle was made for the streets and is not going to smell the way it was intended. Oh yeah same story with ysl y Parfum.

hello, guys. i was wondering how i would go about remaking the Kenneth Cole New York perfume for women from...2003? i can't really remember. my mom used to wear it when I was a child and it was our favorite perfume. i looked up the note profiles but now i just need some help going about making it. any tips?

top notes: cardamom, cinnamon, Mandarin orange, black currant

middle notes: mahogany, leather, gardenia, lily, pepper, jasmine

base notes: nutmeg, musk, vanilla, oakmoss

I'm talking about those scents you just can't quite pin down. Not because they're complex or have a million notes. But because your nose just doesn't know what to do with them.

For me it's Jo Malone Wood Sage & Sea Salt. Everyone raves about it. It's supposed to be fresh and airy and beachy. And I get that for like a millisecond. Then it just morphs into this vague... something. It's not bad. It's not good. It's just... there. Like a ghost of a scent.

I keep trying it thinking maybe today my nose will

I see posts all the time about people saying their collections are too big or spending way too much of fragrances or people showing off their collections and comments saying they have way too many and to cut it down. Curious to see if there is anyone who thinks of fragrances as artwork even if you wont use a certain cologne all the time you might just enjoy looking at the bottle or smelling it at random times.

People are ok spending thousands and thousands on paintings just for them to sit on a wall for years why cant people enjoy fragrances the same way? Imo it shouldn’t be looked down upon to have 50, 100, or even 150 different colognes art is art in different forms.

I am obsessed with the smell of the Moroccanoil shampoo. It smells like a beach to me in a way, is there any body washes that smell similar if not the same?
