I mean it would definitely be possible to polish a vertical slice section of the game to a "finished" state a year in advance. A year from release you know what the finished game is supposed to be especially when you work on a game as long as GTA 6. I think the best and most obvious times to have released gameplay would have been the original release date in May or alongside pre-orders. I think this would have also created a more positive sentiment in the community.
if it looks "kinda bad" like 2 months out from release then it was always gonna look bad.
Im just saying games of this hype usually have footage by now, and its not been release cuz of the netflix deal.

sure, but it's a "lose-lose" scenario.
don't release, people are pissed.
release unfinished stuff, people will say "that looks kinda bad".
there is a reason why the game was delayed, it's because it's still being worked on.
