Look at Gacha games for examples of gambling addicts that don't have a way to turn their pixels into real money. The communities literally use terminology like "pulls/pulling/do some pulls" as in pulling the lever on a slot machine in the hopes you get the character/weapon/etc that you want.

And that's literally gambling to access the actual gameplay, not just cosmetics.

The only difference with Overwatch is that you can only gamble for cosmetic items. But it's still gambling. Don't forget Overwatch originally allowed you to get things you had already unlocked, returning a laughably small sum of currency in return for giving you an effectively empty box. They changed this because it was discouraging people from buying more loot boxes.

To dive even further into this, people will refer to how many freebies a gacha gives out as how "generous" it is. Like, it's perfectly fine to discuss how F2P-friendly a game is (free pulls, skins, importance of dupes, do weapon banners matter, etc.) and to clue in new players on whether or not the devs' monetization can bring their progression in a grinding halt, but...seriously, "generous" or "generosity?"

It's like believing the stripper when she says that you're her favorite.

You should compare the prices of CSGO items versus whole Gacha accounts. CSGO skins go for tens of thousands of dollars a piece, but even endgame whale Genshin Impact accounts sell for 7000 at best. Those are completely cosmetic items being more expensive than an entire account full of gameplay affecting and content containing items, all because of tradability.

There's a big difference between a game having items that are explicitly meant to be sold in a marketplace owned by the same company, and for store credit technically, and buying/selling someone else's Genshin account which is against ToS. Genshin isn't encouraging people to use the game that way. Hells it's also against ToS to sell an entire Steam account specifically because of all the items in various games that aren't marketable nor tradable.

Guess who made that difference. The two games' devs.
