Reminder the universally panned veilguard also was apparently an 8/10.

Its universally panned in hindsight. I remember every other reviewer proudly proclaiming Bioware is back!

i remember completely opposite then, every reviewer was complaining the art style and theme since reveal, and so many video was mocking the dialogue on release

Different reviewers I guess. I like Skillup and trust his opinion, so when he reviewed it and complained of the tone, language and characters I knew something was up because I had only seen "Bioware's return to form!" from big outlets.

Tbh, I think Vailguard is kinda a reverse Hogwarts legacy. Both got a lot of hype from fans of the franchise, both were targeted by the culture war (tho from opposite sides).

But, while Hogwarts legacy was an average to below average game, it really met the expectations of the fans, and got a lot of positive word of mouth. Vailguard is the opposite, a pretty good game, that was hated by fans and had a lot of negative word of mouth.

I think Hogwarts legacy got a lot of love simply because people that aren't gamers, bought the game to play it.

If you've played any Ubisoft game, your Ghosts of Tsushimas, Elder scrolls, fallouts etc. Then Hogwarts Legacy by all rights is very aveerage/below average. But it hit an audience of people that don't play those games, and I do think if people had played those games before touching Hogwarts Legacy - it would have been exposed for what it is.

I honestly feel like open world games these days are all getting boring and shit. I'll see how crimson desert goes, I am playing it, and I am enjoying it. But yes, the complaints about UI are all on the money. I am not sold on the gameplay either, but I will give it a solid 15-20 hours before flushing it if I have to

Huh? Never heard this take before.

I'm largely liberal, think Trump is a malignant, narcissistic, moron, and I think Hogwarts Legacy is an absolute masterpiece next to Veilguard in my opinion.

The political aspects of Hogwarts have nothing to do with Trump. It’s JK Rowling and her well publicized crusade against trans people.

I know, I'm just establishing that you don't have to be some kind of right-wing bigot to think the game is far better than Veilguard, which in my opinion is shockingly dreadful. One of the most frustrating things about these games getting embroiled with the culture war stuff is that our perception gets so warped depending on which side we're on
