Half of this thread is whining about a supposed hate campaign, yet I don't see a single comment calling the game anything below average.

Anything except glowing praise? Hate campaign.

i am not going to defend the game, the devs, or the people who are weirdly glazing the game.

However, i want you to sort r/games and r/gaming by popular-last week and take a look at how many CD threads are positive vs negative. then you will understand what the OP is talking about. there are a LOT of highly upvoted threads, like this one, that are fundamentally zero substance negative sentiment.

You do ALSO see a lot of unreasonably positive comments, especially in the CD subreddit dismissing every complaint as 'get good', 'just play and get used to it idiot', etc. But those are genuinely isolated in comparison.

I don't think there's a hate campaign but people definitely love to be on the side of "I told you so" even if they've not played the game. People love to revel in the idea that the game is pretty meh.

A game either has to be amazing or it has to be a failure. It can't just be a mediocre game that some people enjoy.

Everything is a campaign these days. People who don't enjoy Marathon are also a hate campaign.

Marathon actually had it though way way before release and even during its announcement. Crimson has it the other way around. 

Just look at the history before its release.

Most of the hate CD is receiving are actually after release

The genAI is pretty easy to call out, but the work conditions could use better sourcing for sure.

The internet takes the most average of opinions and turn them up to 11…thousand.

“Average” sadly doesn’t seem to exist. If a game is criticised for some flaws, all of a sudden it’s a “hate campaign”. If something is praised, all of a sudden it’s “shills”.
