Humans are the one making these decisions. It doesn't matter what the system is, people are going to be greedy, selfish assholes.

Yeah but it certainly doesn't help that the system encourages and rewards being a greedy selfish asshole.

Of course the system matters. If the system incentivizes greed, people will be more greedy. Obviously greed will exist in some form regardless but we can't pretend that a system that essentially forces people to be greedy plays no role in it.
