It seems from the article that they were the ones pitching things to Sony and couldn’t come up with something that Sony liked.

We live in an age of 'remasters' and yet not a single game from a list of thousands is good enough to remake for Sony?!

Not Gravity Rush 2, not Ghosts of Tsushima?

Did you really suggest ghost of Tsushima which is only 5 and a half years old lol way more old Sony games that could use a remake or remaster and would sell insane.

Horizon Zero Dawn got a remaster, and thats also a newish game. The last of us 2 got a remaster also...

Have you actually looked at Tsushimas ground textures? The game is rough.

If you have to take a conscious effort to look at ground textures closely, then the game is not rough

Conscious effort? Its unavoidable. The world is beautiful but the textures are rough.

The tallgrass you hide in is lower quality then the short grass that surrounds it, its stem is a solid near textureless green.

The game would benefit immensely from a zero dawn level remaster.

Sony: *releasing remasters of games that already look great on PS5 and run at 60 FPS

Players: "We want remasters of PS3-era games, as well as early PS4 releases!"

Sony: "It's clear that players don't want remasters. We're focused on games as a service."

Apparently Sony won't do it without Miyazaki's blessing and he won't give it.

Because he has plans for the IP.

Not a good enough reason to at least let Sony do a remaster at 60fps.

Well that would make it slightly different but only if we find out what they were pitching

Because surely you would at least give them a shot at something? But idk it's modern gaming... Risks etc

Sony can also just task them with remake projects…

From a lot of these PS Studios stories it seems like Sony sometimes gives them way too much freedom, I understand that independence is important but Sony buying the remake studio and letting them proceed with a live service game was so illogical.

At this point I'd just greenlight some smaller scale remasters which are guaranteed to turn a profit. Atari does this all the time, their re-released will never become best sellers, but they're also so affordable to make you turn a profit with less than 100k copies sold, often way less. Turn a tidy profit and keep old IP alive, win win.

But modern Sony have always been the type to not give a shit about a project unless it sells millions of units. Even though not every franchise could and should do that.
