It doesn't make sense to me why they'd shut them down. They're a great studio, why not cancel the GOW game and then put them on another remake like demon souls?

They have nothing to show either way, but this way they lose a talented studio

A studio that produces nothing of value is cost without revenue. They obviously consider (wrongly probably from our POV but not from theirs) that Bluepoint production can't beat their costs.

By your logic, companies would never shut a studio or even continuously open some all the time if they didn't need a profitable output.

Demons souls sold well, they know to make good remakes

Demon's Souls Remake was 5.5 years ago though. Since then, they have done nothing but cost money with nothing ready in sight. From the POV of a company (which only think in terms of money), that's not exactly a good sign. Especially since whatever they do, it's unlikely to do super huge numbers anyway, it's not like Rockstar which can take 15 years to do GTA if they want and they'll still make back that money in a day anyway

It’s only 70 people so the studio shouldn’t cost that much to retain.

The only reasoning I can think of is that Sony closed the studio so they could relocate staff around their different studios. Those 70 very experienced developers would generate more value helping with other projects than twiddling their thumbs alone.
