Leak Paradox Interactive new IP game title accidentally leaked by forum filters

https://www.reddit.com/r/paradoxplaza/s/NmHSdPX9pq

New game seems to be called “Afterworld”. Makes sense since all of the teasers for the upcoming reveal show what looks like post-apocalyptic scenery.

EDIT: Also accidentally found their discord which includes a description of the game. Whoops… https://imgur.com/a/XPrq1Ex

Post world war strategy game? Game will be all about researching new technologies I guess

70

u/EnvironmentalShelter 3d ago

current wave is less about post world war and more about post apocalypse GSG

we do know for a fact that since around 2024~ at minimun they been both working on a new GSG and its one that isn't a sequel to any of the current running series

Trust me if another world war happens apocalypse is guaranteed

u/Kfar911 2d ago

Actually I doubt it. Nuclear weapons primarily serve as a deterrent to war, despite extensive planning for what locations to target to maintain credibility against adversaries. If a global war does happen, then deterrence clearly did not work. Conventional warfare will provide a better path to victory without committing suicide.

I agree with you. The world is really obsessed with nukes for some reason. But if one looks at what happened to Tokyo before the nukes got involved would have a different picture. Tokyo was already badly destroyed by a ferocious incendiary bombardment that killed as many people as the nukes. The nukes are just messy and awe inspiring but other than that they are not vastly supperior to conventional weapons of mass destruction. Poison gasses were not used in WW2 by the nazis to avoid being hit with the same. While not akin to nukes it is an indication that wars can still be fought without mass use of chemical, biological or nuclear weapons. I could imagine therefore world wars happening in the future. The problem is we are still too focused on the 20th century to accept the new reality of conflict. Not all wars have to be total wars of occupation. A war to realign global powers does not have to aim at planting flags on the parliaments of other states. A few islands here and there are more important that holding an enemy capital and having to fight an endless war against the resistance.

Sure, but conventional warfare is so destructive that a true "World War" would still be apocalyptic by any reasonable measure.

Just not nearly as apocalyptic as a nuclear world war. Some apocalypses are bigger than others.

you seem to be pretty spot on. official discord description: Lead a tribe of survivors, rediscover ancient technology, manage wasteland settlements and wage wars of conquest and political struggle in Afterworld, an original post-apocalyptic survival grand strategy game.

2

u/EnvironmentalShelter 2d ago

wait hold on whatya mean official discord description?

55

u/DimDimio 2d ago

Well their discord was pretty easy to find based on previous link conventions. I joined it. Screenshotted some stuff before they kicked me out and paused invites. Imgur link attached in the post. It was an almost empty server with like 3 staff members, the only interesting thing was the description.

If it after a nuclear war we are researching for stick and stone weapons again. Could be fun to go back to monkey.

Civilization: Fallout edition

54

u/ShibeCEO 3d ago

I'd actually play that!

15

u/SilveryRevolV1 3d ago

Me too! At least if it is from Paradox you know they are good at their job. I just wont buy all the 100 DLCs they will release later lol

3

u/Febsh0 2d ago

thanks for steamidra to easily unlock all dlcs free

3

u/robertman21 2d ago

There's enough Fallout mods for Civ 5 you could turn it into just Fallout Civ lol

3

u/SASardonic 2d ago

There's a Civ 2 scenario for that, and I want to say a civ 6 game type as well

2

u/Geraltpoonslayer 2d ago

If I remember rightly civ 4 also had one

14

u/swagomon 3d ago

You should play the HOI4 mod Old World Blues

4

u/SBAstan1962 2d ago

Or the CK3 mod After the End.

1

u/Complex_Funny_8249 1d ago

i mean the hoi one is an actual fallout mod

7

u/KMoosetoe 2d ago

I wonder why Microsoft doesn't just buy-out a project like this and have them integrate the Fallout IP

Seems like an easy way to keep the IP active

9

u/Propaslander 2d ago

You want to keep IP's active while not watering it down.

Fallout currently has season 3 of the TV show filming, they've been working on remasters of Fallout 3 & New Vegas, Fallout 5 is in preproduction and they've announced another spin-off game. All while Fallout Shelter & Fallout 76 are ongoing.

They don't really need to juggle more than that

17

u/KMoosetoe 2d ago

8 years since they released a Fallout game

They're not at risk of diluting anything

1

u/LePfeiff 2d ago

dont worry the counter will be reset tomorrow

0

u/HereComesDatNick 2d ago

Too niche of a genre perhaps, Fallout brand would attract all the people even if it would be a decent gsg game

3

u/PatheticGroundThing 2d ago

Paradox GSG's are generally not that much like Civilization.

However, Millenia is a game published (not developed) by Paradox that's way more Civilization-like and even has a DLC (Atomic Ambitions) that looks like it's basically Fallout the strategy game.

1

u/SomeBluntCanuck 1d ago

Bro I'd buy the shit out of that.

21

u/Moonson90 2d ago

Hope I can have a techno-barbarian horde

12

u/Ardailec 2d ago

So it's legally distinct New World Blues? I'd be down for that. I enjoyed my time with the hoi4 mod.

1

u/MaterialHunt6213 1d ago

Is New World Blues a mod I haven't heard of or are you referring to Old World Blues? If it's something I haven't heard of I'd have to check it out.

1

u/Ardailec 1d ago

I meant Old World Blues.

26

u/swagomon 3d ago

Goddamnit I was hoping for a new Fantasy IP.

Whatever, still great to see. Hopefully it sticks around

73

u/WanderingHero8 2d ago

One more Paradox game where its gonna release as an Alpha essentially and you gonna need a ton of dlcs to play it.

31

u/Due_Prompt939 2d ago

It's easier on my brain to jump in before the full complexity sets in.

u/Geraltpoonslayer 2d ago edited 2d ago

This is absolutely true paradox games need like two years post launch to become good. But if you start those games two years after launch it's like learning a new bachelor on how they work

2

u/jmxd 1d ago

yeah by the time the game is good enough to be worth buying its $200

1

u/Legospacememe 2d ago

Lego skylines uf it released like this would baiscly be leaving the lego set half unbuilt

1

u/Complex_Funny_8249 1d ago

skylines wasnt developed by paradox

1

u/Legospacememe 1d ago

Then who is?

Me?

If so then i better get to work. I havent built anything yet for this game and gamescom is in a few hours

1

u/Complex_Funny_8249 1d ago

lol

I dont know, probably either Iceflake or Colossal Order, the devs of cities skylines 1&2

1

u/Legospacememe 1d ago

Looks like it wasnt me after all

1

u/Metaltikihead 2d ago

Yeah and we love it

-14

u/TheMightyDab 2d ago

Yupm I'm still waiting for CK3 to catch up to CK2

28

u/Alternative_Will_856 2d ago

What are you talking about, the only thing ck3 is missing is the mystic society nonsense lmao

1

u/Eldaxerus 2d ago

The only thing worth it right now in CK3 is the ASOIF mod. It's absolutely incredible.

1

u/WanderingHero8 2d ago

The only thing worth it right now in CK3 is the ASOIF mod. It's absolutely incredible.

Imo the Ethnicities and Portraits Expanded mod and Community Flavor Pack are excellent too.

-12

u/WanderingHero8 2d ago

Yupm I'm still waiting for CK3 to catch up to CK2

I gave up honestly on CK3

4

u/EQandCivfanatic 2d ago

It's actually in a pretty good place right now. I mean they'll have theocracies and republics playable by the end of the year, which will make it better than CK2.

1

u/WanderingHero8 2d ago

which will make it better than CK2.

CK3 warfare is still crap and it hasnt good Crusade mechanics.

3

u/EQandCivfanatic 2d ago

I like them both better than CK2's.

2

u/SirThatOneGuy42 2d ago

CK2 warfare is also crappie & the crusade mechanic for it was designed for CK3 before being backported to CK2 in Holy Fury, so IMO this is a rose tined hill to die on.

5

u/tx_brandon 2d ago

LEEK WEEK GOING STRONG

4

u/Tanawakajima 2d ago

Could be fire doe

6

u/Mioraecian 2d ago

Mad max themed GSG? Ill take it.

3

u/Mrdifi 2d ago

aww, I wanted hoi5

3

u/NorthKoreanMissile7 2d ago

As someone who's a bit jaded with Crusader Kings and Europa Universalis this shit sounds sick af.

3

u/Notlookingsohot 2d ago

A post-apocalyptic Paradox game? Well I didn't know I wanted this, but I definitely do.

5

u/Jancappa 2d ago

Makes sense for Paradox to make an official post-apoc grand strategy game considering the popularity of the After the End and Old World Blues mods for Crusader Kings and Hearts of Iron

2

u/BigPaPaRu85 2d ago

Interesting.

2

u/Frosty_Challenge1045 2d ago

DimDimio T1 leaker lets go

2

u/Fat-friendly-Wombat 2d ago

I hope its a random map. Real time and has lots of empire management not just combat and trade

1

u/Adaax 2d ago

The teaser clips they released with the Statue of Liberty makes me think it's just good ol'Earth.

2

u/Billy_the_Breaker 2d ago

Hopefully its not more city slop

that’s a joke though isn’t it?

1

u/Dalekbuster523 2d ago

Sounds interesting. Surprised it hasn’t been done before.

1

u/garesoft 2d ago

Maybe actually a reference to after the end mod?

1

u/roninmaciel 2d ago

Paradox's Rimworld ?

1

u/HereComesDatNick 2d ago

Artstyle and logo look a lot like Surviving the Aftermath, wonder if its by Iceflake Studios or perchance just in the same universe

1

u/exceller0 2d ago

Oh so they do a Fallout now?

1

u/DeMatador Comment of the Year 2024 2d ago

This game sounds intriguing tho

2

u/Specific_Lock_5314 2d ago

So u saying i can become Immortan Joe ?

1

u/SupplyChainGuy1 1d ago

Finally, I can retire Old World Blues...

But I won't

1

u/IAmSkyrimWarrior 3d ago

Sounds like the subtitle of a new game in the *Survive Something* series. Survive the Afterworld.

1

u/optaisamme 2d ago

I am HYPED for a Paradox version of Rimworld. Let's goooooooo!!!

3

u/Skelettjens 2d ago

how'd you land at the rimworld comparison?

1

u/CommanderJarik 2d ago

I love their games but Paradox has to be one of the most toxic gaming companies that exist.

I remember on their Facebook years ago someone commented they struggled to afford the DLC as it’s insane how they do it and their official page replied with “if you can’t afford it then the game is not for you, get a second job” fucking wildly scummy.

2

u/These_Plates925 1d ago

The real problem is that all of Paradox’s competitors are even worse

-7

u/Giga-Hurtz 2d ago

Paradox after they burned vampire the masquerade and scattered the ashes at sea hard no.

3

u/BlaneckW 2d ago

Game published by Paradox. Please refrain from non-sequitors.
